We stopped by Road Hawg BBQ on a Wednesday around 5 PM, and it ended up being a really smooth, family-friendly dinner experience. Parking was easy, with spots right up front and no meters to worry about, which is always a win when getting kids in and out. The restaurant itself had a relaxed, welcoming feel. Inside, there was a mix of seating options including booths, half-booth tables, and standard tables, plus high chairs available for younger kids. One thing I appreciated was that the bathroom was very clean and surprisingly spacious. When you order, they give you buzzers for your food, and the staff was incredibly kind about it. My kids all wanted a buzzer too, and the employees happily gave them one, which honestly made their night. Small interactions like that really stand out to me when visiting places as a mom. One thing to know before you go: they do not have a soda fountain machine. Drinks are bottled or prepackaged options including Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Sprite, Barq's Root Beer, Gold Peak Tea, and water. Complimentary water is available as well. They also accept both cash and card. What We Ordered I ordered the BBQ Sampler which included: 1/3 rack of ribs 1/2 lb pulled pork 1/2 lb beef brisket 4 wings 2 sides (I doubled up on fries) Rolls included I also grabbed a bottled Coke. The food came out quickly, definitely no more than about 15 minutes from ordering to table, which was impressive for dinner time. Food Thoughts The fries were honestly one of my favorite parts. They were super crisp and fresh. The wings were good, and I tried one of their newer sauces, a chipotle-style sauce. It personally was not my favorite because it had a much stronger Dijon flavor than I expected, but if you enjoy bold mustard-forward BBQ flavors, you may like it. They also had multiple sauce options available including: Sweet Sauce Mild Sauce Hot Sauce The pulled pork was solid, but the beef brisket really stood out to me. So we were really excited to try this one out seeing a really good review on TikTok of course the outside looks like all the Mom and Pop shop so that's always a good sign inside was very clean very open. The cashier was very nice. The only issue we Had was because it was the first time and we didn't know when we'd be back again because we don't live in the area the last time we were in PA was a year ago. I wanted to add brisket to the Diablo bowl along with chicken and they couldn't figure it out, manager came over there. They didn't know how to ring it up and so me and my partner just decided he would try one. I would try one. He did want to try something else, but we just made that compromise I think in the future for them they would make more money if they would offer adding sides of meat for people that wanna try two different kinds of meat in the bowls. We got here when they are almost closing and they are only accepting takeout. When we had our food we just sat outside the restaurant and enjoyed our warm food. We got a pulled pork sandwich which was for us lack some flavor but their bully bowl which was fries with brisket was really good. You should also taste all of their sauces, it's blending well with their meat which actually saves the pulled pork sandwich. Heard about it, never had been there. First timers. From the jump, easy to find. Didn't realize they had a parking lot in the back until we were inside. However, we were able to find a place for street parking quite easily. Fairly limited menu, but what else do you need when you're going for BBQ? Maybe a veggie of some kind would be my only suggestion...green beans? Corn? We had: pulled pork, smoked sausage, cole slaw, garlic mashed potatoes, and hush puppies. Everything we had was delicious. a major diamond in the rough. Who expects good BBQ in Dillsburg? The staff were friendly. The girl at the counter was very helpful and kind. Very minimal beverage options...canned soda or water. Would love to see lemonade or iced tea of some kind. Not sure if BYOB is possible. Looking forward to returning and trying some different options. Would like to get one of the bowls...they look yummy. My only complaint (not really) was that it was quite cold inside...every time the door opened the frigid air came rushing right in. The smell of barbecue filled our nostrils as we drove down the street towards our destination to our surprised it was a nice ambience inside of the restaurant we were greeted by a wonderful server who gave us plenty of earful regarding the menu and what suggestions for us to have for lunch unfortunately the food came cold as cold as the restaurant itself. Small business, great old building, clean. My son raved about his St. Louis Style Ribs. I got the bully sandwich which is the brisket, American cheese, grilled onions, bacon, and hawg sauce. The beef was a little dry, but very flavorful. We ran into an acquaintance here and he told us this is his favorite spot for wings. My favorite thing is the french fries. Walk in and order your food at the counter and then have a seat. Not a whole lot of seating, but can accommodate larger parties of 4 or more. Great selection of meats available. We only had the brisket sandwich which is juicy & full of flavor. Fries are delicious! The large looks too big, but it's just enough for 2 people. Condiment table has options of sweet, mild or hot sauces for all your different kinds of BBQ. Definitely will be heading back here and wanna try the BBQ platter which has every type of meat they have (pork, beef, chicken and sausage). With bad pizza in my memory, I was hesitant to try the place even though it is bbq. The building is an old building with a Pittsburgh sports decor without the bad college sports. Give it a thumbs up. The pulled pork was a pulled pork. No skimping on the pork with my sandwich. I did have any fat, either. If there is one downside to the pulled pork is it does lack the flavor on its own even though they smoked the pork at night as I heard which is a positive. I expect more flavor, but the bbq sauce makes up for that. I enjoyed the sandwich. The fries could be far better as they lack the seasoning I would expect to taste. Battered fries are not my favorite, so I would prefer the double frying method, however, I enjoyed them. I can't explain it. Maybe it was the Penguins items on the wall that did it. I don't know. Sorry RHB, you need more seasoning, but I would go back, esepecially with dearth of good non-chain places in the region. To me, you are on a fine edge of going downhill with one bad day. Finally, I made the trip out to Dillsburg to give it a try. For those that do not know, Road Hawg used to be a favorite of mine when they were located in Duncannon. Several years ago, they moved to Dillsburg because of issues with the Duncannon location, among other reasons. Little did I realize it is just a half hour away from Bridgeview, an often visited B&B I stay at in the area. To reacquaint myself with this BBQ establishment, I got myself the $28 sampler, with some smoked sausage to boot. It definitely comes with a lot of food, so bring your appetite, or 1-2 other people. Here is a breakdown of each item. Chicken wings: The folks at Road Hawg smoke these to perfection. They taste absolutely delicious. It is so hard to eat only 4 of these. A dozen? Now you have something. Star rating: 5/5 Pulled pork: Juicy, flavorful, delicious. If you add a dash of sweet bbq sauce, it enhances the meat. I would recommend this as a sandwich instead of just the meat. If you can, avoid reheating this as it will dry the flavor out. Star rating: 4/5 Smoked sausage: A little bit on the dry side, but has just enough flavor so you are not just getting a glorified hot dog. Dip a bit of sauce in this, and you have yourself a tasty meal. Make sure you have some water on hand to cleanse that pallet from all the salt! Star rating: 3.5/5 Brisket: The crown jewel of Road Hawg is super tender and moist, but lacks the star power to bring it all home. As sac religious as it is to use sauce on brisket, you might need just a little bit of it just to make it get by. The key word is "little", because then you will lose everything that makes this meat special. Star rating: 4/5 Ribs: The weakest meat of them all, and that is okay. Road Hawg is not known for their ribs. They are not very meaty, and are far too heavily sauced for my liking. When you find a balanced rib it tastes great, but it is like sifting through too much mess to find the good stuff, I should not have to work with, or fight my food, for this small of a reward. Star rating: 3/5 Baked beans: Meaty and delicious, they are soaked in a sweet sauce. It detracts a bit from what could be an amazing side dish. The lima beans are a unique touch that surprised me. I guess the sweet sauce is not just a good thing in making me forget there is a bean in there I would never eat. Star rating: 3/5 Mac n Cheese: Very rich; you have to play with this one to make it work. Otherwise you just ruined your fun experience with a 45 minute trip to the bathroom, later explaining why you made a big mistake. Sometimes, it is best to look the other way and just get something else: Star rating: 2.5/5 Overall I think you will everything quite similar to the old location. I do miss having to get lunch and then walking down to the tracks and watching some trains. This will work, but I will need somebody ride to enjoy this with in the future. Who is with me? read more

We stopped here on the way down to Gettysburg and our camper. GET HERE EARLY because it it basically like a BBQ joint in the south, They only make so much. We ordered pulled pork, brisket, smoked wings as our mains. The seasoning on the wings is out of this world. The brisket had a great ring on it and the pulled pork was tasty. We loved the food from Road Hawk Barbecue. We got the sampler platter with coleslaw, garlic marshes potatoes, and an extra side of mac and cheese. Everything was great! We got pick up and it was all packed nicely. The staff were all very nice on the phone and when we picked it up. It didn't come with the sauces already so we got to choose the sauces from the squirt bottles on the counter. We got all three sauces to try: mild, spicy, and sweet. All sauces were very good and the spicy was quite spicy! Yum! This is a solid BBQ place - particularly for the Harrisburg area. The services are a good size for the price and food is pretty consistent. The pork sandwich includes a nice pile of meat on a bun. The brisket is ok. The smoked wings have ranged from meh (not enough smoke and too much salt) to fan-freaking-fastically perfect (perfect smoke and perfect salt). Bring your appetites. Nothing is dinky. They have all the basics: pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and sausage. Their sides appear to be homemade (not sure about the coleslaw). The mac and cheese is pretty yummy if that's your thing. I'm not a huge fan of mac and cheese but I usually snag a bite or two of their version because it's tasty. Fries are good. Coleslaw is average. Beans are as expected. I haven't tried the others. Caesar salads are good. Decent amount of meat if you have it added. You can make any sandwich "Pittsburgh style" for $3. That means they add fries for those of you who don't know. The Bully sandwich is good. I've never had the wings myself, but my son thinks they're good. You can BYOB. They do not "fall off the bone," that is a different type and really not the best in a great BBQ joint. The tops for me though, are the smoked wings. Holy crap are they good. Try em with the Hawg Sauce (Alabama white). Hot bbq sauce is excellent and so is the mild. My only advice to this place - 1, be open more. They aren't open on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday, that's crazy. 2 - offer 2 and 3 meat plate options. This is pretty standard and they only have individual, a massive platter, and then sandwiches with one meat. Top notch barbecue. Good smoky flavor with smoke rings. Got the sample to try everything. I liked the ribs the best, so meaty and flavorful. Among the best I've had anywhere. Next in line was the brisket and pulled pork, very good too. The smoked wings seemed a little dry to me. The smoke sausage was also a winner. One of the things I liked is that their rubs are not too salty so the flavor of the meat comes through. The house made beans with pulled pork are incredible. I could just eat that for a meal.
