One thing that distinguishes this place from other coffee shops is that they roast their own coffee. The owner used to roast the beans in a giant roaster inside, until they moved the roasting operation to another site. I often stop by to buy the beans, which are also sold across the street at Fruit Center. The location is right on the waterfront; you can sit outside on the docks during the summer. Service is not fast here, expect to wait a little bit, chat with the people in line or the baristas. Their regular coffee is mildly brewed, with deep flavor, since the beans are freshly roasted. If you are used to burn-roasted Starbucks type coffee, you may not like that. Their espressos and cappucinos are excellent and are worth the wait. The baked goods and pressed sandwiches are very good. Great place to meet a friend or take a quick break. read more

Went here earlier this summer. Way too expensive! I ordered a flavored iced coffee and i believe it costed around $6. And it was on the small side. I also bought a 12oz. Bag of their coffee beans and that was $20. Sorry, but I'd rather go to Starbucks for their prices. read more

It's place is the real deal--cool little hang out with great atmosphere and fun people watching. Plus an amazing view of the ocean. But the real surprise of this place was the quality and care in coffee and tea preparation--this is no ordinary coffee joint. They serve loose leaf MEM read by the cup or pot. And they have a great selection of hand crafted Chai lattes--unique preparations like Red Chili Chai, Mint Matcha Chai etc. They have a cool way of making cups of coffee too--it takes a few minutes, but worth the wait. The use one serving Chemex glass filters, which I had never seen before, to make artisan, hand prepared, individual 12oz cups of coffee. They roast all the coffees in house, and have top class small batch offerings like Costa Rica La Minita, organic Amaro Gayo Ethiopian and others. The small selection of pastries were good too--and complimented the drinks. Highly recommend this place. Let me start off by saying that the coffee here is fantastic. However, when you order coffee expect to wait 5-10 minutes for a cup. If you order more than one, or order any food, expect to wait 15-25 minutes. There's no bathroom, and no wifi. When I asked about that I was told "We're not that kind of coffee shop." I love this place. It is right by the Marina Bay. Wonderful views of the shore from the window. The majority of coffees here are delicious and are made with utmost care. They are brewed locally so the coffee's are bit on a strong side. I wish they were open later though. They are also a little pricey but as i was saying great coffee, great people and great smell!! I usually get the cold brew or the machiatto, nothing like it in the south shore. The muffins are utterly delicious-just the right moist level. Free wifi inside and great views of the water. What else would you expect. I really like coming down to this place and spending my evenings. It is so refreshing. Just a caution if you are a DD/starbucks guy the coffee's here are a bit intense so be prepared for that. The world's end is a mile away and a good spot for hikers to stop by. read more

I've been looking for a decent coffee shop, that isn't Starbucks, for a while and saw Redeye Roasters get pretty good reviews. I got the latte which was delicious and smooth. The great thing is they roast their own beans in the shop, which I was lucky enough to witness. The only downside is the food. Pretty limited selection but then again it's more about the coffee than the food. It is on the pricey side, my latte being $3.95, but it's a small, independent place with freshly brewed cups. After listening to the owner of the shop talk about coffee, it's amazing how much effort is put in the each cup. He flies all over to find the perfect beans, buys them fresh, roasts them in house and weigh out each cup for the perfect roast. There is so much care and love in to each cup. read more

I'm really bummed. I finally visited this adorable coffee shop. I have been driving by every day for two years. The physical space is charming and cozy and you can't beat the view. But, the coffee is absolutely horrible. Like, vending machine horrible. It also tastes a little burnt. Is this a fluke? I am totally surprised by this. I bought two coffees to go and didn't have my first sip until I had driven off. Had I tasted my coffee before I left, I would have asked for my money back. I have tried the iced coffee twice, and it's stronger than starbucks but very good, just a more bitter bean that takes getting used to (and I clearly should have added more sugar!). I want to try some of the sandwiches next time I'm there but was in a rush today. They have a nice cafe menu -- the grilled cheese smelled incredible. Damn, I thought I'd get a first-to-review here (but at least I beat out Alexadra S., Hingham reviewer extraordinaire. Sorry Alex, you know I'm just teasing because I'm jealous). Anyway, this coffee is fantastic. I've had it on Saturday mornings at the Hingham Farmer's market and have also bought the whole beans to use in our heavy-duty coffee machine at home. I'm currently drinking it out of a thermos at work right now. On Monday, I went to the newly opened coffee shop and was equally impressed. It's locally owned and the owners roast the beans themselves. It's also in a perfect location on Hingham Harbor and the space is beautiful. There are tables and sofas and a gorgeous floor and a beautiful bathroom (I know that's a little weird of me to say but I loved that it was huge, brand new and super clean and had a very cool hand dryer). Anyway, about the drinks. I had a skim cafe au lait, 2 friends had Chai, and my husband had tea. We loved that when you have your drink on-site, it is served in a real ceramic mug. The tea came in a really adorable mini-teapot...it's the little things. (We didn't try any of the food but it all looked lovely). Everyone loved their drinks. As for the coffee, it is incredibly aromatic and smooth. It's not "smack-you-in-the-face" strong like Starbuck's, but it packs a flavorful and smooth punch. (I know I said "smooth" twice - I meant it). I'll be honest, I know there's some fancy-pants way that this guy roasts his beans which is why the coffee tastes so good - but I don't know too much about it. I just know it's good. Great coffee - surly attitudes every time I have visited 3 times, at various times of the morning and there is always 3 or more people behind the counter who don't have a clue about service but are very adept at throwing major attitude. 1st time: They had just opened and were in the weeds so it didn't bother me that they were disorganized & distracted. I had to repeat my order several times, which was just a simple cup of coffee, mind you. 2nd time: I asked for a coffee and oatmeal and they slid the dry mix to me across the counter, when I asked if they make it (IE add hot water) the two girls said no. So, I asked for something else..and got a sigh. Oh, I'm sorry that I don't want to eat dry mix at 8am in the morning. As I am negotiating with her for a pastry a 3rd person comes over and says, "yeah, we make it." and put hot water in it. No smile, no apology, nothing from anyone. Then they ask me at least 3x each if the coffee is to go. The place is tiny and there are 3 of them yet they don't listen to me or each other. I answer each time, yes. It is indeed to go. 3rd time and last time I will ever go in there: I order a large, 16oz Latte. The girl says cryptically, "How about a 12oz." I have no idea why. She never told me why I couldn't have a large size and never said another word to me. In fairness, I didn't ask because in my head, I'm thinking, "Why don't I just go to Starbucks?" Again everyone...all 4 of them ask me if it's to go. I got it & got out of there. They aren't fast, efficient or inexpensive. It's not convenient to park and while the coffee is good I can't be bothered with the lousy, surly service. It's a shame. It could be a great place. read more

Exceptional espresso. This roaster gave me the second best shot I've had in the US. I wish it wasn't 3000 miles from home! If you've never had a cup of espresso that didn't taste like charcoal tea, please treat yourself to what espresso is supposed to be! At Redeye, the baristas and roasters are good enough for each other. The beans aren't over-roasted, and the coffee isn't over or under extracted. It's in a nice spot on the marina, too. Highly recommended if you're into good coffee! I'll be back next time I'm in Boston! read more

Came here on a whim on our way back home. We found this place on Yelp. It's located off a busy street, right next to the water. The inside was cute, and had a beachy shack vibe. They seemed to offer good quality teas and coffee. I ordered an iced salted caramel, since I like the salted caramel mocha from Starbucks. Although this one didn't have mocha in it, it was still pretty tasty. They serve you drinks without lids so you can add extras yourself. Although the atmosphere was nice enough, staff didn't seem very welcoming or friendly. I wouldn't go out of my way to come again. read more

The coffee here is as good as it gets around the South Shore... but you'll pay for it. As self proclaimed coffee geek- this place is top notch. The coffee is fresh roasted and each cup is created like a work of art. If this review were based on the coffee alone- I'd give 5 stars easily. While the atmosphere is nice, and right on the water...this little place is always so packed thats its very very hard to get a seat and no wifi so you can't stay and work online. And then when you do finally get a seat, you almost feel like you cant stay and linger because so many other people are waiting to sit down. A latte and a scone will cost you about $10 which for me is a little steep for everyday. I like to come in here and treat myself to a latte TO GO. I also would not recommend bringing kids here, its too small and just not enough room. A better place to meet a friend for coffee and bring kids is brewed awakening down the street. read more

Best Coffee in Hingham! Just a 5-10minute drive from the Hingham Shipyard and such amazingly strong, authentic and deliciously brewed coffee. I come here for my iced salted caramel coffee and the kick espresso blows me away every time. I love supporting local coffee shops and I'd rather spend my money here over Starbucks. Yes! Finally! Respectable and properly brewed coffee on the south shore! I can't tell you how long it has taken me to find a place where I can enjoy cold brew or an espresso around the area. The coffee (cold brew) is smooth and flavorful, they also do a nitro cold brew served in house only that I can only imagine is delightful. They offer dairy alternatives and are friendly to customers. They roast there own beans so they definitely have knowledge of what they are Doing. -5 stars in my book. Because they also carry stone and skillet English muffins which are locally based from Medford (and seriously delicious). I didn't actually try the egg sandwich. My hope would be that it is real egg. This is a super cute coffee shop on the South Shore. We take our daughter here to get one of their huge cookies (seriously - all three of us can share one). They roast their own brew here and have a great selection of teas as well. The tea latte is amazing for a cool afternoon. The view is excellent and it's a cute spot to just sit and watch. You can take a walk along the water at the bathing beach after. I just wish they hadn't made the middle one big table. It makes seating a bit tricky in an already tight area, but I do love the chairs. They also have a couch area if you're lucky enough to snag that. read more

I met a girlfriend here for coffee (she was a fan, I'd never been) and immediately adored the charm of this small but well appropriated coffee shop. The view was lovely and the atmosphere was warm and comfortable. I wasn't sure what to order and my friend mentioned that her boyfriend likes their cold brew on nitro. I have grown to be a huge fan of cold brew so this sounded fantastic to me. The nitro aspect of the coffee apparently makes it a dine-in only option, which was fine. My coffee arrived in a cup with a stem with that lovely cascading quality nitro beverages have. Before adding any milk or sweetener I tasted the coffee and discovered it needed nothing (I do not ever drink my coffee black.) The coffee was as smooth as can be with low acidity, just how I like it. Weeks later, I returned with my husband as I had been talking up the cold brew in nitro. He too was a fan and we split an airy almond croissant while enjoying our coffees. I will say that the coffee was strong and left even my strong coffee loving husband a bit wired. Not a problem but a caution to those who are caffeine sensitive and try the cold brew which is notoriously stronger. I've personally been (mostly) off caffeine as of late (pregnancy) but know where I'll be going when I resume. read more

Coffee is great, probably my favorite so far in this area. The view of Hingham Harbor is peaceful and you can sit outside at one of the (few) tables or in the park and enjoy your drink. Only one espresso machine though so it can take a while (I've waited 15+ minutes on two occasions now!) so now, I will probably avoid their espresso drinks, although very good!! Cappuccino is amazing. Except for the salted caramel drinks. My fiance got one and it was soo incredibly salty, it was hard to drink. It's always clean but food is mediocre and minimal. It can also get congested.. To the owners: you should set up the main counter differently. Switch the locations of the cash register and espresso machine (and maybe add another) and put the milk/sugar table where you have the food display. This way, people walk in the door, order, wait away from door and milk table, get coffee and use milk/sugar, walk around big table and out the door. But the good coffee keeps the rating at a strong 4! Worth going back. read more

The thing about this place is that the coffee is really great. But the experience - not so much. The baristas aren't especially friendly; we were told that we could only get the small size when ordering a latte because it was "traditional". And while we waited around 20 minutes for 4 drinks, we were completely in the way, as there was no space for us to stand. Coffee is good -- best in the area, I'd say. That being said, I've certainly had better cups of coffee elsewhere. The thing I like about Redeye Roasters is the quality of their coffee is extremely consistent, which is hard for a local coffee shop to pull off. I also love that the owner always seems to be there. It's nice to see that he is so heavily invested in not only his business and his customers, but also the quality of the coffee and the various brewing processes they offer. Another pro is that their location is fantastic. I love grabbing my drink and heading out to one of the benches to hang out near the water on weekend mornings. During the winter, it's great to sit inside if you can snag a table (I think they've added more seating recently. It's a great space! A few cons: They're expensive. I'm willing to pay for fresh coffee that's roasted in-house, don't get me wrong. But it's still something to be aware of. I wish they had a broader food selection. The sandwiches they make are great, but I always found them lacking in selection. I understand that they primarily deal in coffee, so it's not REALLY a con, but something that I would change if I could. The customer service is sometimes sort of poor. Occasionally there are some younger people behind the counter who seem to be annoyed by the existence of customers (emphasis on "occasionally"). read more

Real coffee shop atmosphere, lovely staff that really make an effort (such as explaining how their version of a flat white isn't exactly a traditional one, when I was just happy they knew what one was in the first place!), and can't beat the relaxed, on-the-docks atmosphere. Minus half a point for having no wifi, but I guess that's on purpose so people don't linger too long taking up seats. Update: the owner just informed me that they went with no wifi to encourage social interaction. Ten points for that sentiment! Great decor. This place has some kind of relaxed, Zen vibe going on. I feel like I just left Massachusetts and arrived in Seattle or Portland. They have several different brewing methods, including an option of ordering a carafe of French pressed coffee. Great views of Hingham Harbor. read more
