The root beer is downright swell. The onion rings are also very easy on the palette. They are not the crumb-laden kind from the frozen section, or the donut-sized kind like Zeb's has. Fun place to eat. The food is decent, but very expensive for burgers, hot dogs, crinkle fries, and root beer floats. With the food and tip, you might as well go to a sit down restaurant and relax. We were driving to Ann Arbor and found Reds Root Beer off an exit and gave it a shot. The fact that it's a old fashioned drive through made it perfect for quick food and social distancing. In town for a few days, and been here 3 times already. First off, their own brewed Root beer is the best we've ever had. Served in a big frosty mug!!! Had the hot dog and hamburger baskets. Quality dog and burger served with crinkle fries and cole slaw. Car hops very friendly and efficient, prices are in line. Came back and had Root beer floats, and was greeted by Red. Drive-in food that blows the other root beer stands out of the water. I actually really don't like crinkle fries but these are really good. Hot dogs are snappy and nostalgic quality, coleslaw is creamy and not bland. And the servers got some sidewalk chalk out for the kids so they had a way to pass the time while we waited for our feast. Went to Reds Root Beer in Paw Paw! I got the fried Vienna dog with fries and Cole slaw! This food was amazing and hit the spot on such a beautiful night! The crinkle fries remind me of this awesome place from when I was a kid on grand Haven! The dog was good and everything complimented each other. I can't wait to go back out and try the fried pickles and onion rings! I love the vibe and the music from Reds! Also, how close it is to St Julians, Warner's, Paw Paw Brewing Company, as well as the highway, perfect stop during a winery hop or during Wine and Harvest Fest! I drive by Red's all the time and have never stopped until last night. Mainly, because I'm not one to eat in my car (just don't want the smell nor mess in it or on me). Luckily there was a picnic table available in the shade. Wow, one of the best Coney dogs I have ever had! It was loaded with the special meat and onions. Plus I really liked the fries, cole slaw, and their root beer. Paw Paw is sure lucky to have such a great drive-in. The car hop was friendly and very quick. They are only open for 6 months or so out of the year. I know I'll be returning again before they close for another delicious Coney dog. read more

Because of some health issues this year, I have had no appetite and thus, have not been eating or eating out at all--not the ideal situation for a Yelper! But, the one thing I could drink--and would fill me up--Reds fabulous Rootbeer shake! Yes, you heard that right. They have been a favorite of mine since I was a kid growing up in Detroit and you can't get them very many places anymore. I'm not talking float, I'm talking shake! I actually drove to Reds every other day for 2 weeks just for a Rootbeer shake. So next time you are at Reds for their world famous Chicago Dog, try a Rootbeer shake! Ooo. I'm so glad we have such a great drive-in right here in town. There is a reason why this place is always so busy. Fast friendly staff and great food. I had never had the olive burger or tater tots here but both are very good. Love the coleslaw also. Red's Root Beer! is exactly what we expected - an honest-to-goodness drive-in offering great food at reasonable prices. I loved the look & feel of the place upon arrival - classic 50's & 60's music playing, servers (dare I say carhops) coming to your car when you pull up. They also have picnic tables for when you have time & nice weather to enjoy your food. So they exist for the celebration of root beer. It was good and exceptionally pleasant to drink in a chilled mug (forgo the to-go cup if you can take the time to eat there). It was also excellent in the form of my tried-and-true favorite Root Beer Float. Their root beer is smooth. It's not overbearing. It's not overly sweet or sharp. Overall, Red's Root Beer is a winner for me. There are a range of other fountain drinks, as well - but, seriously, if you come here & don't drink root beer, I don't understand. The food is solid. They have an amazing array of hot dog options (including corn dogs), a range of hamburgers, several chicken offerings, chili, pulled pork, a fish sandwich and a shrimp basket - as well as meatless entrees for your vegetarian friends. Tons of options for sides - of course fries & sweet potato fries (try to the Honey Dijon dipping sauce), fried pickles or mozzarela sticks (and more). The tater tots were cooked to perfect crispiness while still tender inside - which is hard to find. They were very accommodating customizing our orders to meet our specific requests. They have milkshakes (not on the menu) and ice cream cones & sundae for dessert. As a brownie Sunday connoisseur, my daughter gave Red's a "ready-to-re-order" rating. The service was exceptional. Sara took very good care of our party of 20 - with the assistance of others when the food was ready. She was very attentive to ensuring our drinks were topped off and offering To-Go cups for anyone wanting a refill for the road. My one suggestion would be a better bathroom. It works. It was clean. But it's a single bathroom for the whole site. It was part of the "throw back" experience which didn't impress me - but don't let it keep you from stopping by and having great food at a reasonable price. read more

Face it America, a great hot dog is every bit as satisfying as a gourmet meal. So especially if you limit hot dogs, and no doubt if you live on 'em, if you are between Chicago and Detroit on I-94, stop at Red's Root Beer in Paw Paw, and you will have a special hot dog occasion. Red's dogs do their tricks perfectly -- Best of Breed, in the only "dog show" that counts on Yelp! Throwback to old-fashioned drive-in hospitality and energy is a given. But the food is king here, too. Grew up on Chicago dogs and always start there, and have lived in Michigan with good Detroit and Flint Coneys. But decided to gamble, and won with the house special Red's Deluxe. This is one dog that is not only delicious, but different without trying too hard. Just try it. A different take, but true to heritage. And, one of the best buns I've seen to carry the load, including a great smoked Vienna dog, shredded pickles, diced tomato and onion, mustard and a little bit of -- mayo (DO NOT "Hold the Mayo" -- it is the perfect finishing touch). Also: Home made root beer, check. Fries are crispy and hot and stay that way. Get a new leash on life -- stop at the Paw Paw exit, and run with the big dogs at Red's. I have always loved Reds and their food and service deserve a five. But their prices go up and up and up and up. Ridiculous what it costs for a hot dog. You would think it was fillet mignon. I loved everything about Red's! Red himself came out to greet us and review the menu with us. He couldn't have been more friendly. I ordered the chili dog and a root beer. Both were delicious. The root beer is made fresh every morning and is so creamy and delicious. We ate outside at a picnic table but they offer car side service as well. The staff, the fun, old school ambiance and the fresh, high quality food make this the perfect stop for the Chicago to Detroit trip. My only regret is that I didn't get a root beer float to go!
