I was in Allegan doing some grocery shopping and wanted to find a place for lunch, so I grabbed my phone and loaded Yelp for some local-flavor recommendations. Corky's Drive-In was towards the top of the list, so my friends and I decided to check it out. We parked and started to get out of the car and the server quickly stopped us and told us we could stay in our car and she would come to us. It was a nice day and there wasn't anyone else there, so we decided to sit at the picnic table up front. Our server immediately came over and took our order and our food was out in just a few moments. I love little small town seasonal places like this. The food was delicious.. my bacon cheeseburger was oozing with cheese and the root beer was homemade and amazing. I could have drank a gallon of it! Corky's is a nice little small town seasonal drive-in. I'm kind of nostalgic for these as I'm from the Jackson area and my mom would take me to one there when we would have to run errands. You always know spring is coming when these places open up. I had a chili cheese dog which was really good and it came with fries. Their burgers are decent too. They have a broaster in house for chicken, which I will order next time, there aren't many places that do a proper broasted chicken. If you've ever been to Frankenmuth and had the chicken dinner there, broasted is a whole new ball game. The food is good for the price and the service is fast and friendly. They are CASH ONLY though, which is annoying these days. I generally have some cash since I'm a hairstylist, but during quarantine am not working and always have Corky cravings when I don't have cash. CASH ONLY! I'm totally ok with a business that only accepts cash but it's something you must know before going here. Now, onto the review... This review is sort of a hard one for me. The food is good, not 5 star dining, it's not something I must have everyday but it's not terrible. You just have to remember, It's a drive-in!! I've been eating at Corky's every season since I was just a little kid. I usually always order a cheese burger or a bacon cheese burger. What I love about their burgers is that they're thin patties that get crisp on the outsides from the flat top grill. They've been voted #1 burger is West Michigan, so definitely give it a try. The Heavy Kevie is a huge burger and isn't on the menu anymore but you can still order it. If I remember correctly it's either 1 or 2 cheeseburgers, with ham, bacon, mushrooms and all the condiments. The fries are frozen fries, not fresh cut. Again, they're good but not freshly cut and fried. We prefer to get the tator tots, you can't go wrong and they're crispy! I used to always get chili cheese fries but now I ordered chili cheese tots, game changer! What I love about the chili is that it's more like homemade sloppy joes (without the bun of course) than chili. They then sprinkle the chili with pre-shredded cheese. (By pre-shredded cheese, I mean it's extruded and purchased in a bag, not bought as a block and shredded in house). I assume the corn dogs are frozen and not fresh dipped and fried. They're good, but not like a corn dog from a fair. The onion rings are also frozen and not fresh dipped, but they're good ones. Sometimes onion rings are minced onions and not an actual onion ring. But these are and they're good! I've also ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich. It is what you can imagine, a frozen, breaded pork tenderloin, fried to a crisp and put on a bun with mayo. It's good. Growing up I used to always get a B.O.C. Which was a breast of chicken sandwich. It was a breaded and fried chicken breast with mayo and lettuce on a bun. I'm 99% sure this has changed since I was a kid because the last time I ordered it, it was definitely not the same. It's been a very long time since I've ordered their broasted chicken but I do remember it being very good and so many people order it regularly so I'm sure it's good. They do make their own root beer. I'm not sure if it was better when I was a kid or I just think that because I was a kid and thought it was amazing. Sometimes it seems to be sort of flat, no carbonation at all and just sugar in a cup kind of. If you save room for dessert the hot donut delight is really good. It's a HOT sour cream donut with a scoop of ice cream. They also have shakes, malts, root beer floats or just a hot sour donut. One thing I hate about almost every drive in, THE NAPKINS! Why do they have to use tiny napkins that are so thin that you need about a dozen per person? If you're serving messy food, can we at least have 1 or 2 decent napkins? I do have to say that on multiple occasions, Linda, the owner has been very rude to us or other guests. It's either she mean mugs you instead of smiling that you're doing business there, she just looks unhappy or she's being inconvenienced. Maybe she's nicer to her regular customers but she's been this way since I can remember. I had at least 6 friends who were carhops there when we were in school and even they mentioned that she's kind of crabby. I have zero complaints about the carhops! They've always been great! They're quick to come to your car to see if you've got a to go order or are ready to order and kindly give you more time if you need it. When they see you roll up your window or start your car they're also quick to come take your tray and thank you for coming in. Corky's is definitely worth checking out. Bring cash and be patient because sometimes they're busy. read more

This is the second time we have been to Corky's. We had a bacon cheeseburger, a grouper basket, and a broasted chicken basket. The broasted chicken was the greasiest yet somehow smallest chicken we have ever had. The grouper basket was ten bucks for a few pieces of fish, all heavily greased and overfried. The burger had onions on it, despite requesting not to have onions, and then the waitress attempted to argue that the burger was ordered that way. The person ordering the burger is allergic to onions and would never order onions. Root beer floats are served in plastic mugs. The ice cream isn't bad, but the root beer is the cheapest and most flavorless root beer we have ever tried. Sodas are served flat. All in all this is not a restaurant I would recommend, despite their boast of 'voted best burger four years'. Management - look for new cooks. Look for new wait staff that are not rude and ignore customers, and make sure your food is prepared in a manner that is not consistently worse than McDonald's. read more

Part of Corky's obvious charm is that it's an old fashioned drive-in/root beer stand. The burgers have always been super juicy and greasy (I recommend the Olive Burger Deluxe basket), and the fries are much better than last years. There's a surprising variety of items on the menu, but I'll admit I just stick to the burger/fries/cole slaw combo. As far as service, it's a root beer stand, so the employees are really just a rotation of high school girls; your mileage will vary. read more

We came here and they were really busy. They were having an inspection and the waitress was really pleasant and upbeat. The food was pretty tasty as well. I would say that it's worth the money and the wait if it's busy. It looked like she was the only girl working but to be fair it was the middle of day and I don't think it was supposed to be this busy. But it was worth it. We went as 2 cars but paying on the same bill we waited for a very long time and didn't even get our drinks as we waited even though it was a warm day when we did receive our food they put it all on one tray not two even though we were in two cars the drinks were warm and my chili dog was made with what tasted like manwich so not chili tasting at all but at this point we had already waited forever for our food so I ate part of it and my boyfriend got a burger that wasn't very good especially for the wait so I'm sadly disappointed with the service and food and won't be in a hurry to go back anytime soon. read more

Sorry if I offend anyone, I don't know how this place was voted to be best burger in west Michigan. Does anyone that votes get out? Channel 3 news said it was voted best burger. I think channel 8 should investigate this. All joking aside, the cheese burger I got had a plain white bread burger bun and tasted like ketchup and mustard. It had cheap cheese and the burger itself was super thin and was exactly like McDonald's hamburger only slightly bigger diameter. This place was really bad, a complete let down. The waitress was wonderful and sweet, but that's as good a rating they will get from us. The broasted chicken was still bloody, not to mention that the portions were more Cornish Hen sized, and the cheeseburger was under cooked as well. The rootbeer float was a joke, the rootbeer in it was flat, and it was like drinking watered down icecream. Gross! Maybe the cook can make some other dishes better, but I say take him off the broaster, and let the waitress do the cheeseburger, you'd probably get a better meal. Thumbs down! Ugh! read more
