We stopped in for some BBQ and overall had a good experience. The restaurant was small but cute. The sides were definitely the highlight, each one had great flavor and tasted homemade. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, the collard greens had that slow-cooked depth, the cole slaw was fresh and tangy, and the green beans were seasoned VERY well. For the meats, we tried the pulled pork, burnt ends, and chopped brisket. The brisket was tender and juicy with a nice smoky flavor, and the pulled pork had a good mix of bark and softer pieces. The burnt ends were saucy and rich. All the meats were good, but they could have used just a little more seasoning to really make them shine. Portions were generous, service was friendly, and everything came out hot and fresh. If you love flavorful sides and hearty BBQ, this is a solid spot. We stopped by Pungo Boys BBQ on the way back to VB after Cullipher's and wanted to grab something for dinner. I forgot to get photos but I know we will go back so that I can add some later! Outstanding BBQ Experience! I had the pleasure of trying the kielbasa sausage, pulled pork, and brisket, and I was blown away! The pulled pork was hands-down the best I've ever had--perfectly moist and packed with flavor. The kielbasa sausage tasted natural and had that homemade touch, while the brisket, though on the leaner side, didn't skimp on flavor. Although everything was tender, there was hardly any smoke flavor. The meats were warm and not hot and the bananas in the banana pudding were very brown. It shouldn't have been served. Stopped in after wanting to try Pungo Boys for a while. I opted for the taco special with all the fixings--a couple of brisket and pork, cheddar cheese, slaw, sour cream, and avocado slices with a side of hushpuppies. Their hot BBQ sauce wasn't spicy at all but had good flavor. Everyone was super friendly, with plenty of parking and seating inside. My takeaway looked and smelled so amazing I decided to eat it right there. The pulled pork was great, and I enjoyed the slaw. The brisket left something to be desired; it lacked flavor. I'll give their brisket another chance next time, as consistency is so subjective. The hushpuppies were OK - next time, I'll try another side. Pungo Boys' pork BBQ beats Dave's. We decided we needed to try some bbq during our short stay in Virginia. We stumbled upon Pungo Boys and gave them a try. They are located in a strip mall in the corner. You walk right into the counter where you have the menu and order. You seat yourself and collect your food when they call your name. The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful and I tried all of the table sauces, but to be honest, the best one was their Souse Sauce which was basically vinegar and spices. It was tangy and delicious and packed so much more flavor than you'd think it would. The sandwiches come with a side of coleslaw that was fresh and crisp and also more on the vinegar side of things. It's definitely a different genre of BBQ than we get in Kansas City, but I loved it. read more

It was a nice sunny day and found myself going for a leisure drive down to Pungo. I came across Pungo Boys BBQ and stopped in for some late lunch. I ordered one of their specials Brisket Mac & Cheese. It was delicious! Brisket tender, Mac & Cheese creamy and cheesy. It was a nice portion where I got to take half to go. The establishment was clean and well kept. The staff were polite and friendly. When we got there, they were already selling out so that's a good sign. If I'm in the area, I would go back. read more

We've had this on our list for quite some time but just haven't been able to check it out until today. So glad we tried this BBQ it is definitely the best in the area. We got the platter which had brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs, it also came with 2 sides and we got the collard greens with potato salad. All the meats were tender and had a lot of flavor. We did also try all the bbq sauces that was on the tables and our favorite was the fire. It had a little kick but lots of flavor, it was delicious. They do also have a kids menu. My daughter got the pulled chicken with a side of mac and cheese she loved everything and actually wanted more mac and cheese. The staff was very friendly. Once we walked in we were greeted. There was also lots of tables available to sit down and enjoy if you don't do take out. While we were eating they walked around and greeted the customers and asked how everything was. We will definitely be back here. I read on other reviews that they do have beef ribs on Friday so we want to try that next time. Be sure to check this local restaurant out!! Gotta start with the point that the various smoked meats are all amazing. These folks get it. The pork was excellent and the sliced brisket was moist and sported a great bark. But I also have to put a spotlight on the sides. Nothing I enjoy more than finding a place which puts some love into the fringes of the menu. The beans alone are worth a Michelin star, two kinds of slaw (creamy and vinegar)? The brisket Mac and cheese should not be approached without a recent cardio exam, but that's a good thing in a place like this. Pro-tip- If you happen to get lucky and get hold of one of their limited addition smoked ribeye Tomahawk steaks, you may think you've won the lottery. We ate at Pungo Boys for dinner on 12SEP2024 and we were rushing to get there before they closed and they prepared our food quickly. My daughter had the sliced brisket platter, Mac and cheese, and green beans, which she took home for lunch the next day. My wife had the Cuban sandwich with the cucumber side salad and took half her sandwich for lunch. I had the chopped brisket sandwich with slaw and I ate everything! Pungo Boys BBQ is located in the Pungo Square Shopping Center in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach. The place is fairly easy to find as it is right off Princess Anne Rd. and is where the Pungo Sports Bar and The Hairitage Salon are located as well. There is ample parking here, and there is a ramp and a step spot to get up from the curb (the curb is higher than other curbs in the city). I have been here several times now, with my most recent visit being on June 6, 2021. My first visit here was in February 2021. I think this was shortly after they opened. At that time, the full Covid-19 restrictions were still in place. Masks were required for everyone, social distancing enforced, and limited socially distanced seating. When I was there, there wasn't anyone dining in, as all orders were to go, including mine. It wasn't too busy at the time, as there was only one party ahead of us ordering when we came in. On this first visit, I ended up going with the Pulled Pork BBQ platter with macaroni and cheese and baked beans as my sides. My mom went with the Sliced Beef Brisket platter with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The ordering process was simple, and it only took about five to ten minutes for the food to be ready for take out. After getting the food, we went over to the sauce bar to get some sauces to take with us for the BBQ. The experience with my most recent visit was the same as the prior visits I have done over the past few months. Once we got home, that's when we had our food. The food was still nice and hot, even though it does take about 10 minutes to travel to and from there. The meats were extremely tender and juicy. Adding some of the sauces gave the food that bit of a "kick" that I was looking for. The sides were great as well. Overall, I have had some great experiences here, including both food and service. You can't go wrong here. If you are in the area and looking for a BBQ place, be sure to check this place. Just be quick, as once they are out of specific meat for the day, they are out. read more

I found this place on GrubHub actually so I decided to come and give it a try. I have to say, they sell some tasty bbq here. I got the sausage on a bun, plain. But I had it with the different sauces they provide. I love them. I also had a side of their hush puppies. They were ok. Need a little more flavor to them. Maybe adding some sugar, honey and sour crème to the batter will make them moist and hold flavor a little longer. Maybe even some heavy whipping cream while making the batter. But the sausage was amazing. Great Smokey flavor. Great value for my money. The service was great. Cool people working here. I love the design and style of the shop. Very nice. The staff will take your order over the phone but does not cut your brisket until you get to their place. They are very nice when you call in your order (that alone is getting harder to come by), and they are very welcoming when you get to their place.
