I went here for my early birthday dinner. If you have a party of 4 and visit within 3 days before or after your birthday, the birthday person eats for free! My whole family really enjoyed the food. My favorites were the chili pineapple bulgogi and beef short rib. The service was good as well. They were very friendly, attentive, and constantly would monitor our burner and change the tray of the burner without us having to ask. A couple nit-picky things to note: - it gets very loud , which made it a bit difficult to hear each other and place our orders - we were a party of 6 and was seated at a table with one burner, so it felt a little crowded Overall, I really enjoyed visiting! I so love this place! Very happy we had a reservation on a busy Friday night. We went to celebrate birthdays, which is so nice because if it's within 3 days of the birthday, it's free! There are so many options. Unfortunately I did not take any pics while dining, but everything was delicious (after we cooked it, of course). I also really enjoyed the seaweed salad! This has been so far the best AYCE Korean BBQ in the 757. It doesn't have the hot pot, so that sucks but as far as the meat and the marinaded meat, it's the best flavor! They do have the sauces already prepped at the table, so need to get up from your table to make your sauce. It can be good or bad, I guess. They also have kitchen dishes already made like wings, japche, cheese corn, spicy rice cake and etc. That's also a plus. Also, this place uses real fire hot plate to cook your protein. The price is just right, and the food is worth every penny. The service is excellent--I've been there multiple times with my friends, and it's always a great experience. I'm not a hibachi guy at all; i actually try to avoid them. So going to this place was ONLY because my friend group wanted to go. There were 5 of us so we went. I'm really glad we did. This is the best hibachi style, family style restaurants. I don't wanna cook if I'm going out i cook all the time at home. But this was the best I've had recently. The company i had with me helped as they were all carnivores and ordered all the meats, but that was only possible because of the great selection Gogi has to offer. Drinks were goo and they actually had alcohol in them, the food selection was diverse enough to not get bored after one or two cooks, the staff was attentive and offered great service. I made reservations through Yelp and I'm very glad I did. When we arrived for our 6pm reservation there were already many people waiting for tables and the restaurant was busy! We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess. Our server was attentive and explained how the menu and process of ordering and cooking worked. It is AYCE (all you can eat) so you basically order whatever meat, veggie and chef plates that you want at whatever point during your dining experience that you want. We were a group of 4 people and we pretty much tried most items. They provide each person which a tray of dipping sauces. It is a lot of fun cooking and tasting everything. I have been to a few Korean BBQ places and decided to try Goji Guy in Norfolk. I love the decor and atmosphere. Our waitress was super cute and sweet! I love that they give large portions of meats compared to other places I've been to. They are pricier than other places I have been to, but the quality and portions are worth it! My ONLY complaint would be when the first turn on the burners or switch out the plates, they turn them up really high so they heat up more quickly. Gogi Guys has been our Korean BBQ staple for about 2 years now. From dates, girls hangouts, or birthdays were leaving there with a smile 95% of the time. Let's talk about their options first. For $34.99 a person (or $17.99 for children 4-9 yrs old) you will get the "All You Can Eat" all day menu. Please be mindful that you have to have 2+ patrons to sit and eat. When seated you are given a complimentary water jug to keep your water cups full. They are usually really good at changing out the jugs when running low. They do have other drinks including alcohol but they are not included in the AYCE price so if you're on a budget you should stick with just the water. On a side note you will be given a plate of side dishes and sauces which are included in the price but are not necessary to eat it all. Protein options range from beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. With a good amount of sides and small plates for those who do not eat meat. My family and I enjoy most of the menu but the real winners for us would be the Beef Bulgogi, Pork Belly, and Chili Pineapple Bulgogi for protein. The small plates and sides change depending on who we are with but our go to will always be the kimbap, rice cakes, pineapple chunks, and rice. We've never truly had an issue with their food, Golgi Guys plate portions are a good size for a group of 4. 'Personal Preference' but we do prefer the thinner sliced meats over the thicker (like the chicken) since the hot plate in the middle can be finicky with temp. We've never been charged for burnt food but I hate to waste. Table Service is where Gogi Guys loses a star for us. We have been there when it's slow and when it's completely packed with a 1-2 hour waitlist. Our waiters are always scattered and sometimes it takes us calling them over to get them back to our specific table. When we mention that our guests are new to Korean BBQ I would prefer they explain how it works but in the end it's usually us. Now, we have never had a mean or rude waiter/waitress but they are usually more catering to certain tables. I'm always down for a hustle but it's always leaves a sour taste in our experience. Especially when they tend to rush you out the door when you're done. I would also love it for them to change the plates more often, were mindful on the days they're extremely busy that it'll take longer but we have had to request new hot plates even on days that we're the few customers. Luckily, the rest of our experience has always been great, the atmosphere and energy are always high and that there makes it a wonderful time especially when the food truly is amazing. *If youre able, make reservations especially for 4+ parties *You can get put on the waitlist on yelp but must be a certain distance away. *On your birthday you get a free meal. It has been a whole year and a half since I came back to Gogi Guys. I do have to mention that the service is so much better (at least on weekdays). They don't give indiviual banchan anymore, instead of a group banchan (the potato, peanuts, and the pickled radish were my favorite). Our waitress was very quick with our order and changed out our grill very often. In terms of side dishes other than the meat, I highly recommend getting the seafood/scallion pancake and the steamed egg. The meat was better quality than last time and I ate so much more than last time. They do first come first serve still, but you have to wait until the table is set up for you, which takes a couple minutes of waiting. If it's a big group, you need a reservation. TL;DR: Food was excellent, decor was stylish and welcoming, and clever seating storage was a nice touch. The restaurant is very loud during birthday celebrations (fun for some, overwhelming for others). Table space is tight and bulky serving dishes don't help. Biggest issue was poor reservation handling and slow, inconsistent service, long wait despite a reservation, being seated late, long gaps with an empty grill, and minimal server check-ins unless flagged down. I can't deny the food was absolutely amazing. Being able to pop open the seats to stow our jackets and coats was an awesome plus and the decor was asteticaly pleasing and welcoming, reminding me of restaurants in Korea and L.A. I know people are having fun and it seems its part of the restaurants branding so its not a negative complaint but a heads up that there is a lot of relentless hollering and shouting during the birthday celebrations. My recommendation to the restaurant, while the tables aren't the biggest I've seen smaller, whoever chooses the serving dishes should research some better options. Main example is this large box that held the ban chans takes up so much of the minimal space available. My complaint is also a lesson learned for me. I made a reservation online for a party of 4 at 6:24 for 8 to celebrate a college graduation with family. We arrived a few minutes early. At 8:04 the Hostess tells me that they just received our reservation. While I am empathetic that the restaurant is busy the inefficiency of the reservation system is not my responsibility. She then tells me it will take 20 minutes. After watching others who arrived after get seated we were called 40 minutes later. Understanding time is crunched that much further I am happy to take on the challenge. However our server approached our table to ask what we needed 3 times (initial order, follow-up on the initial, and the notification of last call). Our grill was empty for 29 minutes after the food from the initial order was completely cooked. Any other interaction with a server was accomplished by flagging them them down. So I'm willing to try again after checking out some other places but I understand now that the reservation system is unreliable and therefore reserve for much earlier. read more
