Can I just live here?…read more Scotia Lodge went beyond our expectations by a mile, and then some. When we saw the price we thought, is this too good to be true? It's true! They have managed to blend the historic nature of this hotel with modern amenities perfectly (without feeling too boutique/hipster-y). Greeted with a free beverage upon arrival, we made our way to our room to find it clean and cozy, with ample outlets, reliable wifi, and a clawfoot tub. After four days on the road, a soak in that tub gave me life! There is a restaurant serving breakfast 8-12, dinner 5-9 (we got The Lumberjack waffle sandwich for breakfast. Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting in-house recipe waffle mix stuffed to bursting with eggs, sausage and cheese. YUM!), and a bar downstairs that has very fair pricing. They also have soaking tubs for $25/hour with Epsom salts and other amenities (we didn't rent it but it sounds great). There is a local grocery store just across the street that has ready made hot/cold foods, beer and liquor, and anything else you may need. Located just north of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, it's a perfect starting or ending point for your redwoods excursion. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, prompt, and informative. The grounds are beautiful, with a large picnic area to enjoy your morning cup at. This place gives Overlook Hotel vibes in the BEST way possible. Can't wait to come back! And to think we almost stayed at the Best Western for $10 cheaper... lol. Thank you, Scotia Lodge, I will be recommending you to anybody I know traveling through the area! We stayed one night, 6/25/26-6/26/26

I've had to think about how I want to go about this review... It all depends on what you are…read morelooking for in an overnight stay. This place is unique as it is a trip back in time and gives the feel of being there. Outside of a mini fridge and tv, there are few noticeable upgrades from back in the day. While a very cool place, and glad to have had the opportunity to stay here, it wasn't my cup of tea. It happened to be pretty warm during my stay and the rooms here don't have a/c. Even with the windows opened, I was never able to get the room cooled down. Adding a mini split to each room would be beneficial. Another reviewer had mentioned no hand rails in the tub/shower and that it seemed dangerous. While I'm not thinking it necessarily dangerous, it would be handy to have rails, especially for older folks. The bed was ok and the two pillows on the bed were pretty small and flat. Again, I was on a longer trip and looking for a bit more of an updated place. If you are looking for for a classic, vintage stay, this would be your place.

A stay at this stunning and immaculate establishment was amongst the most memorable accommodation…read moreexperiences I've ever enjoyed. I cannot recommend this venue strongly enough. Besides being magnificently preserved and dutifully maintained, my room was so extraordinarily clean that I could literally have eaten off the floor. All the plumbing fixtures were diligently polished to perfection and the linens were crisp, fresh and stunningly beautiful. It was impossible to find an area with a trace of dust or dirt of any kind. Never have I been in a room so perfectly clean! I've had the privilege of enjoying some very upscale establishments over the years, but none of them have radiated the loving care and attention to detail that this epicly beautiful Victorian home possesses. Frankly, I believe the credit should be given to both Joey and Olivia for passionately and consistently treating this well preserved gem like the historic jewel that I truly feel it is. From the warm welcome, to the embracing vibration that is immediately apparent as you enter the premises, to the original furnishings and the delectable breakfast that Joey and Olivia will prepare for you each morning, I cannot give a stronger, more whole hearted recommendation for a stay at the Gingerbread Mansion Inn. If you want to escape the rat race and enjoy the perfect serenity of this story book town and this magnificently appointed home, then treat yourself to a stay here. Anywhere else will just not measure up!

The strawberries were bursting with flavor and the whipped cream appeared to be homemade. They included a lovely bouquet of roses with a vase we got to take home. The host was kind and attentive. What a lovely century-old masterpiece!! And the surroundings, right by the Eel River, are perfect…read more Conveniently right off the 101 freeway. Had to knock off a star because our room was so cold the first night: 64 degrees. Another couple complained about the low temp while we were at the front desk. The second night we were plenty warm enough, and they did give us another blanket on request. We did not try the restaurant, but definitely will on our next trip. I was in the bar briefly (we didn't have a corkscrew) and the staff ladies there were most accommodating. The hotel is 100 years old this year, and running some promotions to celebrate. Complimentary sherry in the room lasted both nights. Room deco was very nice. This hotel has personality, in the rooms, the hallways, and all areas inside and out. Fascinating antiques throughout. Would make a lovely place for a wedding and reception!!

The room has no convenient elements, like glasses for wine or a table to sit and have a coffee, but it has a lot of fluff, which just collects dust. The AC is tremendously old; it wasn't be able to actually cool down the room, but at the same time it was VERY noisy. We got a room with a river view - it is not worth it. Yes, you can see the forest somewhere there. The restaurant in the hotel is very bad - it is very pricy, but the service is bad, and the food wasn't good. We waited a long time to be seated, even though they had tables. We waited a lot for our menu, because they don't have enough copies. They were cooking our food for a whole hour and served food with a huge delay between dishes. The steak we ordered as medium was overcooked on the sides and too raw in the middle.
