Such a treat to be transported back in time getting to stay in such an architectural gem. We were awed by our room, and the gorgeous bar, and all the period charm. The people here were the most amazing part of our visit. They were so warm and friendly and authentic. And so accommodating- we stopped in with short notice and they put us up, when we sat at the bar and asked for some cards they found some for us, and the cocktails were amazing. We absolutely loved our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. And this place feels very safe - the Inn, the people, the town - I felt perfectly safe going to my car at night after dark to fetch a couple things. Great location for female travelers.

When you first walk in, you're introduced to the bar as well as the hostess. The hostess is towards the back, but is easily accessible. Once checked in regarding reservations, usually you are taking straight to your table, like I was. The hostess was amazing. We arrived 15 minutes before our actual time. They were very accommodating. When we were seated, we were promptly introduced to our waiter for the evening, Lucas. Throughout the evening, he was very thorough with making sure everything was up to par, and our water glasses were full. We had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, which I did not take a photo of. Whoever on the menu it does specify you receive five prawns. We requested six, so we could each have our part. All of them were a decent tiger shrimp prawn size, and very filling. The cocktail sauce was very spicy, but I enjoy it. If you don't like horseradish, I definitely don't recommend it. We were also served bread with balsamic vinegar and oil, which hit the spot perfectly. One thing I did not appreciate regarding our bread, when we asked for another helping, we did not have the additional serving a butter. But with balsamic and vinegar, it was okay. Regarding the salad, it was basic. However, having the salad already tossed with the dressing of our choice, it was perfect. Onto the main course. My boyfriend ordered the filet mignon and I the paella Portuguese. The Pala Portuguese included multiple clams as well as chunks of chicken breast and ham chunks. There were only two shrimp tails. Granted with the lack of shrimp, the dish was phenomenal. The rice was cooked perfectly. The spices were on point. I would have preferred more shrimp than scallops. But everything meshed well together for me. My boyfriend shared of few bites of his filet mignon with me, and it was cooked to perfection at medium rare. Overall, I'm blown away not only at the food, but the service we received. The price also blew me away. But it was honestly the best I've had recently. I highly recommend coming here for a date night. On a regular evening I would not recommend it.

Sunday evening Prime Rib was delicious, ambiance was incredible with very attentive service. They have different specials on different evenings. Reservations are recommended. Bon Appetite!

I can't believe I have yet to review this jam. I was there on 4th of July a year ago on my motorcycle ride to Oregon. If you like Victorian style or unique stays you should definitely go there. It's definitely an experience. Not only the inn, but small town Ferndale Main Street is an experience as well. I think the building where the inn is located is a historic building. Staying there is like going back in time. The restaurant is great as well. Really worth it, I'd really love to go back there.

We spent 2 nights at the Inn. It was absolutely wonderful. Room was beautifully decorated and fit the style of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable and clean. They have a common room that 4 of us enjoyed both after dinner and while having breakfast. The beautiful staircase is a killer but it fits the beauty of the Inn. We loved it enough that I have already made 2 more reservations for this year and will use it as our go to when heading south.

My friend and I ate at the restaurant, and it was so good! Delicious food, great friendly service, and lovely historic atmosphere. Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Delicious dinner. Not pictured is the beautifully plated dinner salad with apple vinaigrette. Beef bourguignon was so tender no knife needed. Rich and delicious! We went during Christmas time so it was elegantly decorated and felt so cozy in the restaurant with the fireplace. My friends had their patrole sole fish & chips which they said were also delicious.

We used old tarnished silver teapots with white flowers, eucalyptus garlands and white ribbon.

Besides being magnificently preserved and dutifully maintained, my room was so extraordinarily clean that I could literally have eaten off the floor. All the plumbing fixtures were diligently polished to perfection and the linens were crisp, fresh and stunningly beautiful. It was impossible to find an area with a trace of dust or dirt of any kind. Never have I been in a room so perfectly clean! I've had the privilege of enjoying some very upscale establishments over the years, but none of them have radiated the loving care and attention to detail that this epicly beautiful Victorian home possesses. Frankly, I believe the credit should be given to both Joey and Olivia for passionately and consistently treating this well preserved gem like the historic jewel that I truly feel it is. From the warm welcome, to the embracing vibration that is immediately apparent as you enter the premises, to the original furnishings and the delectable breakfast that Joey and Olivia will prepare for you each morning, I cannot give a stronger, more whole hearted recommendation for a stay at the Gingerbread Mansion Inn. If you want to escape the rat race and enjoy the perfect serenity of this story book town and this magnificently appointed home, then treat yourself to a stay here. Anywhere else will just not measure up!

They have managed to blend the historic nature of this hotel with modern amenities perfectly (without feeling too boutique/hipster-y). Greeted with a free beverage upon arrival, we made our way to our room to find it clean and cozy, with ample outlets, reliable wifi, and a clawfoot tub. After four days on the road, a soak in that tub gave me life! There is a restaurant serving breakfast 8-12, dinner 5-9 (we got The Lumberjack waffle sandwich for breakfast. Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting in-house recipe waffle mix stuffed to bursting with eggs, sausage and cheese. YUM!), and a bar downstairs that has very fair pricing. They also have soaking tubs for $25/hour with Epsom salts and other amenities (we didn't rent it but it sounds great). There is a local grocery store just across the street that has ready made hot/cold foods, beer and liquor, and anything else you may need. Located just north of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, it's a perfect starting or ending point for your redwoods excursion. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, prompt, and informative. The grounds are beautiful, with a large picnic area to enjoy your morning cup at. This place gives Overlook Hotel vibes in the BEST way possible. Can't wait to come back! And to think we almost stayed at the Best Western for $10 cheaper... lol. Thank you, Scotia Lodge, I will be recommending you to anybody I know traveling through the area! This place is unique as it is a trip back in time and gives the feel of being there. Outside of a mini fridge and tv, there are few noticeable upgrades from back in the day. While a very cool place, and glad to have had the opportunity to stay here, it wasn't my cup of tea. It happened to be pretty warm during my stay and the rooms here don't have a/c. Even with the windows opened, I was never able to get the room cooled down. Adding a mini split to each room would be beneficial. Another reviewer had mentioned no hand rails in the tub/shower and that it seemed dangerous. While I'm not thinking it necessarily dangerous, it would be handy to have rails, especially for older folks. The bed was ok and the two pillows on the bed were pretty small and flat. Again, I was on a longer trip and looking for a bit more of an updated place. If you are looking for for a classic, vintage stay, this would be your place.
