Ben created a fun and relaxed atmosphere void of any tight-ass guide power trips. A full day doesn't mean a full day of class III. The class III rapids are a blast but the stops at the N. Fork, the unreal waterfall hike, jump rock and plenty of swimming opportunities are an added bonus! Enjoy!

He knew the river, kept us safe, and taught us what we needed to know. He brought lunch for us. He took us on a hike to a waterfall. He gave us opportunities to swim, jump off rocks and even taught my daughter how to steer the boat. We also got to witness a masterful backflip off the boat into the water by Glenn. My wife floated down in the raft while I joined another group of kayakers following behind. This is a Class II trip, but with the big winter we just had the river is flowing fast and cold (51 degrees right now). Us kayakers wore wet suits and I was glad I did as I was "initiated " in the first rapid. I had trouble getting back in my raft so Libby and Joe helped me out. From there I mastered my technique to be sure I didn't head sideways into a rapid and stayed in my kayak the rest of the trip. It was a fun float on a beautiful river with top guides to match. Also, they give you exactly what is needed to paddle in Trinidad so you remain warm & comfy. I was so impressed with our guides, Nick and Alex, and their local knowledge of seabirds, marine mammals, and intertidal species. Whales are cool, but there are also a lot of other really cool animals & birds in Trinidad Bay. And these guides know just where to take you. They were not afraid to take us into a little rougher waters, when we asked them to, likely because they are so skilled and experienced. I also really appreciated all of the paddling guidance they provided making sure I was using my core/legs more than my arms. I was with a very large group and the guides handled everything with such class and professionalism. It is a step above any outfitter I've ever paddled with. We are really lucky to have them in Trinidad to help us access some of the most fantastic coastline along the California coast. They also do a great job interpreting the California Coastal National Monument! All of those rocks and islands are part of a statewide national monument that runs from the Oregon border south to Mexico! Wow! What a treasure. I've crossed paths with many guide companies in my years behind the oars and it isn't always a pleasant experience. From the put in where the guides helped me move my 15' raft and gave me verbal beta on the notorious Dragons Tooth rapid to the actual rapid itself they were polite and helpful. We didn't see them for 2 days on the river until the scout for Dragons Tooth. Being just a single boat with two people I graciously accepted Aaron's offer to keep an eye on us through the scary rapid. Imagine my surprise as we emerged from the chaotic maelstrom to 6 guides working safety and 45 cheering clients. It was truly a surreal river experience. A big part of a great guide service is how they treat their customers and other boaters. If you want to be on the river with a self important grump, there are plenty of them out there. If your desire is to run a classic river with a truly nice, excited, and competent group of guides River Dancers is your outfit.

We did the Upper Klamath River from Boyle Powerhouse to Copco Lake on August 27 that was pretty much continuous Class 4+ rapids for two hours. One thing to note is that there is a decent amount of driving, first to get to the city of Mt Shasta (in your car) and then to get to the put-in (in their van) and vis versa. We did pick up people in the small town of Keno in Oregon so it might be better to do this river segment if you're staying in Klamath Falls/Medford rather than somewhere in NorCal. The van's AC wasn't working too well on the way back so that could be improved.

The boat was clean and organized, Mike was completely on top of everything that needed to be done and monitored, teaching us what to look for and how to respond, checking bait and rods and GPS, and moving us to another spot when the action died down. Not only was he the consummate fishing guide, he was personable, fun, and funny. We came away with a great haul but, more importantly, with a wonderful memory of our entire experience.
