All the other reviews (thus far every one 5 stars) are true and on point. There is no hyperbole and there is no way I can describe Mountain Meadow adequately. So let me take another tack and make sure that this is the place for you. First off, Mountain Meadow Resort isn't for everyone. If you can't be unplugged and off the grid, this place isn't for you. Seriously, there is no wi-fi, your smartphones are only useful as cameras because there is no cell signal, and the generator that provides electricity only runs from 6:30am to 11pm. Bookings typically go from Saturday to Saturday so if the prospect of not being able to check your texts, voicemail, e-mail and social media for a week gives you the heebee jeebees, then this place is not for you. Second, this place is remote. The resort is most definitely in the WILDerness. In the four years that I've gone I've come across black bears and been within spitting distance of a rattle snake, rattle going off, coiling and ready to strike. The nearest medical facility is 2 hours away by car. And that's not counting the fact that you could be half a dozen miles into a hike away from the resort and your parked car when you get injured. If that seems a bit too off the beaten track for you, then this place is not for you. ...Still reading? Then you must be adequately intrigued as to why people go and keep coming back to this wonderful place. And if the you're not scared off then you will likely fall in love with this place as I have. Read on if you want my attempt to add information you might be hoping to gleam from reading these reviews. This is a family run camp. Decades ago a group of families bought the place and ran it together. Their children now run the resort and while you're there you'll likely see the next generation starting to help out as well. Staff all have a direct connection to the resort via family, being visitors in years past themselves when they were younger, or being recruited by one of the first two categories. What that means is that your initial visit feels like you're an interloper at a family reunion, but on repeated trips you begin to feel that you too are part of the family, because you truly are. That sentiment permeates through and is felt not just by my wife and me but by my kids as well. I would love it if my kids worked here when they're older and if I could spend extended time helping out after I retire, whenever that is. Days can be spent on hikes, strenuous or relaxing. Obviously the former will reward you with amazing views. Unlike, say Yosemite, you could do your whole hike and never come across another group. If you do, it certainly will only be a handful. There are lakes to swim in and vistas to take in. The resort is positioned so that you can make a day hike where others will often have to backpack in and out. Sometimes you'll be tempted to backpack yourself and maybe stay over a night or two but what always draws me back is the food - homemade and delicious. Dinners are amazing. Lastly, the kids love it because of the independence and being outdoors. The "kids dinner" before the "adult one" is as much a highlight for the parents as it is the kids. More importantly my tech savvy kids being raised in the heart of Silicon Valley have no qualms with Mountain Meadow being a "screen free" place. And that alone makes our annual trip worth it. read more

Trinity Alps wilderness area everywhere you look. Pick from one of 20+ lakes that you want to day-hike to...and the staff will pack you a lunch before you go. Would you rather sit by the pool than hike all day? They've got one of those, too...it's surrounded by a lush meadow and an 8000' snow-capped mountain. The staff serves up 3 great meals each day, and there is a beer/wine bar with plenty of snack options in the lodge. A really great perk is that there are TWO dinners served every night: the kids eat first, then the recreation staff takes them outside for fun and games while their parents sit down for a relaxing dinner with adult conversation!!! The cabins are basic, but comfortable. Each one has its own bathroom with a shower, a heater, a nice covered sitting porch and everyone gets a bed with warm blankets. The kids get to sleep in bunk beds, which completes the "camp" experience for them. I must disclose that I'm a little biased since I have been coming here every summer for 35 YEARS with my family. But then, a lot of families have been coming here for similar stretches, and there is a reason why. read more

Note: I did not stay at Trinity Mountain Meadow Resort but had an extremely positive and notable interaction with the staff which has prompted my review. I mistakenly left expensive backpacking gear at a trailhead near the resort (7 hrs drive from where I live). Due to the remoteness of this location Trinity Mountain Meadow Resort was the only proximal location with a reachable phone number. I called them to see if they could help me locate my gear. They were more than happy to help me. Kaela from TMMR found my gear and held on to it and even arranged so it could be returned to me. It was a tremendous act of kindness and I am really appreciative of her assistance. I can imagine if they are willing to help out someone like myself (who was not a guest at their resort) that they take great care of those who visit them! Thanks again. read more

The Best Views on the planet !!! If you are into going off the grid, phones,tv,cars,urban noise. Than this is the place for you and your family to reconnect with each other and nature. I have been a guest of MMR over a dozen times in the past 30 years. Every time I come back the staff/owners treat you like a family member coming home to visit. The cabins are cozy on the inside and rustic on the outside. Each guest gets their own little cabin 4-6guest depending on the size of your group.Each has its own covered porch to relax on and enjoy the trees and mt views from. Or just take a nap on(guilty of that one:) All your blankets and sheets are provided. If you have a favorite pillow at home bring it if you can and a good sleeping bag for that urge you might get to sleep under the stars on warm nights. The stars you will see are amazing. NO lights on at night at all. Lets just say it is dark as dark gets. Bring a good flashlight. The resort sits at the base of the beautiful Trinity Alps just above a quite little fork of the Salmon River. There are endless day and overnight hikes for guest to explore. Quite a few high Mtn lakes and ponds to explore as well. The hiking is beginner to advance. If not up for a hike the resort has plenty of games around the lodge to play. Horseshoes,ping pong,volleyball,tireswing,frisbee,bocce ball, they have them all for guest to use. In the lodge there are plenty of board games for cooler days and after dinner times. Plus a old bookshelf with plenty of books donated by previous guest and staff over the years. The swimming pool is always nice to just chill and enjoy the stunning views on a warm day as well. The fishing in the river and lakes around are pretty good at times. Expect to fish with light tackle or fly rods. Small trout are the norm 6-12in. The fishing is more about the beauty of where you are fishing and the adventure, not so much the size of fish you are catching. Small flys on the river seem to work best. Small lures will work on the lakes pretty good at times. Silver and gold with some flash. Good luck. Wildlife is around you at all times. You will see lots of suirrels,birds,lizzards,spiders,bugs. Snakes are around so watch your step. Deer eat in the meadow everyday and sometimes come right to the lodge front porch. Horses in the meadow to see and pet. The big cats are around but rarely seen. Eagles, Hawks, Owl are common to. If you are lucky you might get to see a wild Black bear and their cubs. My cousin and I were luck enough one summer during a Mtn Bike ride to see a mother and her cub cross our paths. Bear country this still is so hike with a partner. The meals are amazing. You get 3 meals a day included in your stay. Make sure to lose 5lbs before you come here..lol Because you will gain it back in all the great meals they serve you. Guest are called to meals the old fashioned way by ringing a old miners come and get it iron triangle. Kids love the thing and often take turns ringing it for the dinner hour. Everything is made fresh everyday from the kitchen staff. Hearty breakfast everyday served hot and early. Light lunches and big big dinners. Dinners here on some nights have a theme. Mexican night/Asian/Italian/Thanksgiving aka Turkey night. My favorite is BBQ steak dinner night. Guest get to season up their own steak and cook it on a outdoor wood pit. While waiting for your steak to cook you sip wine and chat with other guest about your day. I guarantee this will be one of the best BBQ experiences of your life. If you enjoy nature and the outdoor Mtn environment than this is your kind of place. Great staff, great views and great memories. This place is a gem. And it is run by people of the highest caliber. We didn't even stay here, but we were camped next door at Big Flat Campground. We were on a three week, 360 mile hike and desperately needed to use a phone to check in on an ailing family member. Without hesitation, the camp operator allowed us to use their calling card and phone to make a long distance call. And even invited us to have a beer in their private bar and offered us dinner. I totally agree with the other reviewers. Amazing day hikes - breathtaking views. I would also add that with 10 cabins, this would be a great place if you have a large group that you need to accomodate. I am bringing my entire extended family up this year as a sort of family reunion. read more
