Had a nice lunch on a weekday around 1 PM, and we snagged a table in the small seating area, but they were quite busy. Nice selection of sandwiches and breads, and a case of salads that looked fresh and tasty. Our sandwiches came out quickly, and were as advertised, with deli meat on mine that had good flavor (not always the case with deli meat), and a vibrant chicken salad for my wife. Staff is very polite and we observed superior customer service while we sat and observed people coming in and out. Seemed to be lots of regulars and a few of us passing through. These folks here really make the most amazing sandwiches and salads and the price for what you get is just as amazing. I keep wanting to try the kimchi but get so thrilled at the other salads I never get to try the kimchi! The ladies here know all their customers and always have such a happiness about them. When we are in town visiting over holidays & staying at B & B's we have made it a practice to stop in & order the day before a holiday so we have food in our fridge at the hotel. The Owner must have recognized us just now (Christmas Eve) and She threw in some extra cookies. He always get the chocolate chip. They are top notch. My husband LOVES their sweets. And she also threw in an extra broccoli salad. I know they are closing up & she probably wanted to empty her case, but it's just so sweet & kind. Prices are very reasonable for Fernandina Beach, so I give them credit for being fair and decent with cost. Food was on time and service was efficient. I know this is FL and not NYC, but my Reuben was very bland and cold. The taste was like prepared foods at a grocery store. That said, I probably shouldn't have ordered a Reuben, and something more Floridian might've been better. They have a number of great sandwich concoctions here, as well as some interesting salads and other items good for lunch or snacking. Captained by its eccentric and well-humored proprietor, with good food and a laid back atmosphere, it is easy to see why this is a local favorite. I went ahead and ordered the Italian and I was not disappointed. We were in town for a night and before leaving the next day we stopped in to 4th street deli. I did use Yelp to help me find it since we had never been to the area. It was not a let down. Just off a side street in downtown with a few tables outside. It's a small unassuming place. Good friendly vibes, clean, all the salads in the display looked delicious. Welp, I just found my deli spot on the island! My experience began with a very pleasant owner, Jay ("the face"), greeting us with a smile. Something about his demeanor made me like him immediately; maybe it's that his sense of humor is a bit dry. My kinda guy! His wife (I'm guessing), who I've affectionately dubbed "the artist," grins and laughs when appropriate, but never takes her eyes off the sandwich she's making. She's quick; she's precise; she's neat. I want to have tea with her. The place is small; there are about 4 small tables, each seating 2-4 people. There are a couple of tables outside as well but it was much too hot for that today. My party and I ordered our sandwiches to go. I got a pastrami & corned beef with mayo, mustard and onion on marble rye. Another member of my party got a roast beef & turkey, and the other got the hot pastrami. Let me make a side note here: we are New Yorkers and are, therefore, obsessed with sandwiches. I don't use the word "obsessed" lightly. I am a sandwich snob and I have no problem with that label at all. I'm used to sandwiches with huge flavor, way too much fresh meat, way too much fresh meat and way too much fresh meat. These sandwiches were delicious. Moist meat, melted cheese, soft bread but the bread still holds strong. I hate it when sandwiches are so soggy and the bread is so soft that the whole thing just falls apart. Everything melded well together and every bite was a joy. I legitimately became sad when I started eating the second half of my sandwich. I took my time as best I could but the sandwich disappeared all too quickly :( The kimchi salad is so good, guys. It's fresh (super important) and not overpowering at all. In fact, it's sweeter than other kimchi that I've had but it's altogether pleasant. The chocolate chunk cookies are soft and come in a pack of 3. Their dedication statement reads, "We're dedicated to serving you with fresh, big flavor menus you can trust made from the best quality ingredients." I'm impressed they have a dedication statement at all. Three reasons they're not getting 5 stars: I wanted more meat (but there was in no way too little meat on these sandwiches; like I said, I'm used to way too much meat on a sandwich), there was no pickle alongside my sandwich, and I've only been there once. I'm going again tomorrow and I'm guessing I'll have a similar experience, but as of right now that is still just a guess. Bring on the next sandwich! ***Update: We went back the next day and got more sandwiches. We also created a masterpiece, which Jay let us do. It's called the Eazy Reuben: corned beef, kimchi salad, muenster cheese (would also work with havarti, we feel) a sub roll (might work better on wheat or rye, however), and mayo. Who I'm guessing is his mother also made an appearance. She has since been nicknamed "the mastermind." This place is important, folks. Go with a smile and leave with a full stomach. read more

I must've been very lucky the first time when I ordered a club. But since then I ordered a BLT which was on toast so dried out it cracked like a cracker and they put on the end of the loaf so it was two tiny halves super thick. There was way too much lettuce on it. Today I decided I won't go back. I ordered the Washingtonian Roast beef on a sub roll. It says @roast beef, Brie, marinated mushrooms, served hot". Mine had Swiss and served ice cold. It looked like a 5 year old made it. It wasn't a "deli" sandwich. It looked like meats & cheeses that are portioned our ahead and then grabbed and put on like a wad of meat. The roast beef is way too thick and should be very thin on a great deli sandwich. I threw away the 2nd half. This is another one of this southern "take it our way restaurants". If you're used to a "deli" this isn't it. read more
