McCollums on York located in Newport is a true Chef owned restaurant. Tonight we had the Three…read morecourse Meal & we're delighted. The Service was first rate. Seated quickly. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff and great food. The place is very clean and well maintained. We started with the Heart and Palm Salad. Perfect portion tossed with homemade honey balsamic dressing, really good!! I had the Chicken Gumbo, meaty and tasty with a perfect amount of spice to light up the tastebuds. The Shrimp PoBoy bruschetta was very flavorful. My lobster dip was nice and creamy and work well on the sliced crostini bread. We all had the Blackened salmon with rice & beans. The salmon was perfectly cooked and very flavorful with just enough blackened seasoning to enhance the flavor. Food presentation was perfect, everything was plated nicely They have a great selection of bourbon. We chose ours after just three selections but they had many more. The owner came by our table and introduced herself, something you rarely see nowadays The cost was reasonable, and we have added this to our list of top restaurant selections in Newport, Kentucky. Thank our server, Sam for the great service and menu advice. Five stars.

We had the filet mignon and 3 cheese Mac and cheese. The filet mignon had a very nice crust on the outside and cooked perfectly inside. We like it more on the rare side! The Mac and cheese was excellent. Had the key lime pie and crème brûlée for dessert. The service was excellent. The setting inside has been changed and some of the cool parts of York street still remains. Overall a very fine establishment in Newport ! They recently opened for lunch so we will have to try that out.

Our Server Ben, was personable, very knowledgeable of the menu, and fun to interact with throughout dinner. The restaurant is sophisticated, dimly lit, offering live music in the bar area that could be heard throughout the room. Floor to ceiling windows offered a stunning view of the Ohio River and Cincinnati skyline. This is a must try if you're looking to have a different steakhouse dining experience as MRBL offers sushi and seafood too. Disappointed that they don't offer any soup i.e., a lobster bisque on the menu. And to mention the mussels were less than desirable, small in size for the price and of a better buy at other steakhouses locally. Most sides are shareable and the sushi ordered by a few at our table paired well with other menu items. Highly recommend... Dessert: Lemon cake, fried ice cream, and blueberry cheesecake. Sides: Asian green beans, potato volcano, crispy brussles sprouts, and lobster mac-n-cheese. Steaks: 14oz ribeye, bone-in pork chop, angry dragon roll, lobster sun-kissed roll, and the MRLB Tomahawk. Drinks: Troy's Old Fashioned, Suntory Sazerac, and Fuji Dew Drop Enjoy!

Service was slow and lacked the fine dining attention that should accompany such prices. They put the wrong plates in front of us. We had to ask for menus several times. They food was ok at best. Steaks were cold and tough. They also had no sear and had a "boiled" texture. Sides were ok. Pass on dessert. When it was time to pay they charged 3 percent for a credit card fee without telling us ahead of time.

More people came in but the restaurant was pretty empty all evening. Our server, Rachel was very friendly and helpful, going over the menu and made sure our waters were filled and we had what we needed throughout the evening. I asked her opinion between two cocktails and went with her suggestion of the chai espresso martini which was delicious! We started with the sourdough bread that came with treacle and honey butter which I thought would be more remarkable, if pretty much tasted like run of the mill butter. For dinner, my husband and I split the pachadi salad and the short rib vindaloo. The salad was crunchy and fresh and very flavorful, I would definitely get it again. The vindaloo was good but I would probably choose something else next time.

When I went to make the reservation, I found that that if we show up with 3 instead of 4 we would pay a $20 per PERSON fee. I have heard of no-show fees for a whole missed reservation, but a missing person is offensive. Do I get a discount if my service is slow because a server called in sick? What if the entree I came in for is sold out? I bet not. We were able to find a table at a different restaurant that puts an emphasis on the experience, not the profit times seats times turns equation. It's a shame. I liked the food here, but a policy like that puts in on my no-go list.
