Updating this review from about seven years ago. I came to Reel Fish a while ago, and it was a truly awful experience. The skimpy amount of seafood I got was not good, not cooked well, or served with undercooked potatoes. It shook me. Especially for a Winter Park restaurant. After my five year statute of limitations passed on repeating restaurants, I looked for the perfect opportunity to come back and try again. I found that opportunity recently with a few friends for brunch. Their brunch menu looked amazing, so we made our reservation and came on by. Ambiance is actually really nice. Right off one of the main WP roads, gigantic windows look out upon the street as passersby roam from shop to shop. Inside looks like an ocean-side sea shack, but an upper middle class one. Very nice little ocean-themed chotchkies adorn the walls, very cozy. Service was also great. Very nice server, very prompt food delivery, and they gave complimentary bread with a delightful butter. I always adore free bread. We started off sharing the Seafood Fritters (Four savory puppies, stuffed with lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, grouper, onions, corn, poblano peppers, served with a zesty tartar sauce). If all five of those seafoods really were in there, there must have been only a few molecules each, but there was undoubtedly flavors from most of that list, and they were accentuated with the poblano. Topped with that zesty tartar, and this was an A+ app. I had the Lobster Benedict Royale (Chunks of Maine lobster on fried green tomatoes & house-baked buttermilk biscuits, topped with poached eggs & Hollandaise, sprinkled with paprika & chopped green onions). This was indulgent. Pure luxury. A warm biscuit with a good flakiness, that fried green tomato with the perfect thickness and thin, delicate coating, and those perfectly cooked jumbo chunks of lobster on top, all covered in an unctuous Hollandaise. Exactly as it sounds, as advertised, the perfect seafood brunch item. I also got to try the Shrimp Frittata (Wild-caught Florida shrimp, fresh eggs, spinach, Campari tomatoes, goat cheese, caramelized onions, baked in a cast-iron skillet, with wheat toast, butter & a little mixed green salad). This was a fun dish. Good shrimps, well-cooked eggs, a nice tang from that goat, and of course a nice crunchy toast to help make it even more interesting. I didn't like that random salad on the side. Just get bigger cast irons and make the frittata bigger. Overall, what a redemption. I'm not sure what was wrong back in the day, but this is a five star place now that I will happily return to when it's time. read more

Pros: Ambiance is so nice. Right in the cross section of where the good places of Winter Park are. Huge windows overlooking the cars passing by on the street. Inside is a nice, rustic collection of old timey fishing and marine stuff. Very comfortable. Service was excellent. Very nice people. And they gave us free bread and biscuits that were very, very good. Best part of the meal probably. Food was good, too! Tried this place to celebrate a friend's birthday and it did not disappoint. Super cool vibe inside... coastal theme but slightly elevated. Absolutely love the reclaimed furniture pieces and the fun bar. Service was 10/10!! Our server was super attentive and also loved that the owner/manager stopped at every table to check in with patrons while dining. Now, the food... delicious and flavorful. Nice size portions and great presentation. I personally had the Cioppino and it was delightful!! My partner had the shrimp and grits and although she was hesitant when it stated "Tasso ham gravy" she took a leap of faith and ordered it and cleared the bowl in minutes. Our friends got the seafood boil (the crab and shrimp were a tad overcooked but still yummy) and the red fish sliders and they were also great. I visited reel fish for another shot for a date night. As before, the service was great. We asked about oysters, and they only had gulfs and blue points. I was a little disappointed since those are some pretty common oysters that I could get at Publix or Whole Foods, so we passed. I did get the lightning bug drink which was really good again, but I really wish they mixed it a little better since the syrup all gets trapped at the bottom. We ordered the octopus to start and it was cooked perfectly. Then I got the redfish escabeche. The crust was kind of bland and almost hard. It was also super dark which makes me wonder if their oil might've been too hot. The fish had a kind of sad texture, definitely almost chicken-like. The pepper and onion mix was kind of overly sweet in my opinion. I just don't think the dish worked. My companion got the clam pasta which was also underseasoned. I did get a side of cheddar grips which were amazing. After two trips here, I think I've concluded that they knock it out of the park with appetizers and sides, but the mains are just sad. I'd definitely come back here to enjoy the apps, but I think it might be time to abandon the main courses. read more

We came in for lunch and had a good experience. Our waitress was very friendly. We love the seasoned oyster crackers they bring out. For my entree, I got the blue crab BLT, which consisted of a crab cake, bacon, lettuce, and a fried green tomato on a bun. I upgraded my side to the Caesar salad. The salad was excellent. It was well dressed with tons of Parmesan. The sandwich was also very nice. The crab cake was large and all the toppings worked well together. The dining room was calm and relaxing. Reel Fish in Winter Park is one of those places where you walk in for a quick happy hour and suddenly realize you've been there long enough for the staff to start debating whether they should charge you rent. We absolutely overstayed our welcome, and honestly? Not one regret. We kicked things off with the oysters, which were fresh, cold, and exactly what the ocean intended. Then came the shrimp tacos -- shrimp cooked just right, seasoned like someone actually cared, sitting inside tortillas that... well... let's just say the tortillas had personality. A bit rough. The kind of tortilla that's definitely seen some things and isn't afraid to show it. And then the margaritas. They were solid -- refreshing, tasty, and clearly designed to make you forget what time it is (which explains why we stayed way too long). But I'll be honest: the only way they could've been better is if they were made by my daughter, the former bartender, who will absolutely let you know she can make a margarita that could negotiate world peace. The atmosphere? Fun. Laid-back. One of those places where the staff seems genuinely happy you're there--even when you're still there two hours after happy hour ended. Such a cute, family-owned spot in Winter Park. We stopped in for lunch and had no wait, grabbing seats at the bar area right away. The daily specials are based on the fresh catch. The oysters are shucked in-house, and all the fish is fresh and prepped on site. We started with the snapper bites special--perfectly flash-fried and served with a homemade tartar sauce and chowder. For our main dishes, we tried the Caesar salad with salmon and the po' boy. Everything was delicious and made with care. Reel fish was a nice spot for our group of six, service was quick and friendly with good recommendations to fit the different tastes of our party. We went on a Wednesday night which was a bit more quiet, but the place was clean and food was delivered quickly. For our starters the octopus and friend green tomatoes were delicious, especially the chimichurri sauce that was on the octopus. My wife got a seafood pasta that was very flavorful, and had enough left for a leftover lunch the next day. My shrimp and grits were the highlight of the dinner for me, very creamy and the shrimp were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We stopped by Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen & Bar while on vacation after hearing good things, and overall it was a solid experience. We went as a group of five--my wife, our two kids (7 and 2), and my 74-year-old dad--and it worked well for all of us. The food overall was really good. My dad enjoyed his fish, and I had the Shrimp & Corn Chowder, which was a standout for me. My one disappointment was the Low Country Boil. We're used to boils being packed with seasoning and flavor, and this one just didn't quite hit. It felt more simply boiled with very little seasoning or sauce. That said, our waitress was lovely and the service was great, which definitely added to the experience. Reel Fish had been on our list for a while and we were finally able to dine last night with family. We arrived just on time for our 5:30pm reservation and had to wait a bit due to a lot of people searching for a table. No problem! The interior was decorated lovely and made us feel like we were on the beach. Our waiter brought us crackers to share and they were good. For appetizers, 2 people split the 12 oysters, 1 person had the half order of oysters, and 2 people (kinda) shared the spinach dip. The oysters were delicious, as was the spinach dip. However the dip only came with 5 crackers and a large bowl of dip. It was not proportionally correct and made it hard to share. Our appetizers came fast but the food was another story. We waited quite a bit and finally 4 people had food and the 5th waited an additional 5-10 minutes with no explanation. Very odd. The meals were tasty, but we expected a bit more. For example the trout came with potatoes and vegetables. We found 2 small bites of potatoes on each of our plates. The rice in the gumbo was very overpowering. The seafood platters were small, only providing 5 mini scallops and 5 mini shrimp. The brownie was not even half the size of my hand and thin as paper. Though being packed, I think this restaurant needs some work. We enjoyed it but not sure if we will return. read more

First time here. We got there at 9:33p and I was a little upset about not being able to do the all you can eat, but it did end at 9:30p... rules are rules, I respect that. So for the food, we got the 1lb crab leg boil and also got the S1 special. Both were very good and filling. No complaints there. Highly recommend the Hungry Seasoning with mild spice (I just don't like a lot of hot). The service wasn't bad at all, pretty good overall. Everyone seemed pretty friendly and welcoming with information about what they had. I was given the wrong order but my correct order came out shortly after telling them it wasn't right, nice and hot too. The inside was busy with decorations and all but again, wasn't bad. This has become a favorite of ours for dining when we vacation in Kissimmee. The Fried Grouper Sandwich is my partner's favorite dish. Every time we have come to eat here, she has ordered it. We shared Seafood Fritters which are nicely sized and accompanied with a good tasting mayonnaise based sauce. I had Linguini in White Clam Sauce to try a different dish. I enjoyed it. Although it looked like a small portion, it was filling. The sauce was excellent and there were loads of clam bits throughout. Skyler was a great server. I came back today for brunch and honestly, I'm wondering why I didn't come sooner. First off, the location is super convenient right in the heart of Winter Park. There's plenty of street parking, plus a parking lot behind Reel Fish that's part of a new park. The place itself is really spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a big bar area. Outstanding Seafood and great service! We had an excellent lunch there, on a Saturday. Best part, they offer 4 different cocktails, 2 for $10! We opted for a red and a white sangria. Then came the bread basket filled with amazing blueberry muffins and fluffy biscuits. For our entrees I had the scallops, broiled with a lemon, white wine sauce and they were outstanding! And since I'm not a fry person, I got the cheese grits, which were really delicious. My friend was very happy with the crab and sweet potato hash. And believe it or not we split a carrot cake. If I could give zero stars I would. Most unprofessional experience I've ever had. We showed up with a reservation about 30 minutes early. They said we'd have wait the full 30 since they were packed. Fair enough. We went a waited in the car for the 30 minutes. Went back in at our reservation time and were told the someone messed up and we'd have to be seated outside, instead of inside. We accepted since we all were hungry and ready to eat. They seem to have a great happy hour which we were gonna take full advantage of, but our server never showed up (15 minutes, no greeting or waters in front of us). I asked another server if they could find ours at which time he said "of course, I'll go find them, thanks for being so patient!" Adding the pat on my back. Unacceptable, pure sarcasm. My wife looked at and said this isn't gonna be good. I still held out for another 10 minutes. No one showed. We left. Look at my other reviews. This is first. Do not recommend! I got the Low Country Boil and I frowned before the plate even hit the table! First of all no gloves. Second, NO UTENSILS! I have been eating crab legs and boils since I could say "crab" and without the right utensils for cracking crab legs, you HAVE no meal! So I did NOT get to enjoy my meal. We waited 45 minutes for our food even though the restaurant was not busy. The waitress snapped at my dining companion when he pointed out that the fish was translucent and like not fully cooked. Someone recommended another place (that shall not be mentioned) a couple miles past this one, which I spied on our way there, which we promptly left and returned to this local gem. Located on Orange Avenue in Winter Park, they are known for their seafood.so we indulged in that. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We had our food and drinks fast upon order. My reel burger with gluten-free bun was great and satisfying. The fries were filling but there it is. Oysters were a mixed bag. The Gulf oysters were meaty and wonderful with great brine on the finish. While I enjoyed the meat on the Katoona Beach oysters from Massachusetts and Quonset Bay from Rhode Island, I found them quite flimsy.
