Another satisfied customer. Yes, like all first timers to Rees I had to do a double take realizing this place is really the owner's front room of his house but don't let that put you off. I needed some dial work and the automatic movement adjusted on my watch and could not even get a reply from the authorized Ball dealer in town to my enquiry. I dropped the watch off to Mr. Rees, and as others say, came away without a receipt, but he told me he'd call me when ready. Three days later I get a call, the dial is fixed and he's adjusted the movement to get my watch running more accurately than ever before. All for $31. Given that I've paid more to have my watch scratched by another watch shop in town when replacing a battery and you begin to understand the enthusiasm of most reviewers here. I have no hesitation in bringing my valuable watch to Mr. Rees -- I read here that some experienced long delays on special repairs and that might be a concern if you require rare parts as I am sure this guy has little or no stock but just talk to him. I called ahead and asked if he could handle my repair and he was upfront about what was involved. I'll have my watch serviced here again. This guy is the best. Very inexpensive, fast and efficient. I've been to him twice and will be going back a third time. He fixed my watch and gave me a brand new battery for my key fob on my first visit. I'm sure you can imagine how much a battery would be for a key fob that does a remote start. World Class service from a local business! I got caught in traffic and barely made it to Mr. Rees' business before the 6pm closing time. I assumed I would have to leave my watch at least overnight to get the battery replaced. But before I could ask for a pick-up date, Mr Rees already had the watch apart and was looking at the battery. He completed the job and charged me only $8.50! Last time I had the battery on this Tag watch replaced it cost me over $50! (at an official Tag service jeweler). He was very professional, yet was able to converse about some old Austin stories as he worked. I probably shouldn't mention this, but he got a call from another customer and told him to "come on over", even though it was already near 6:30pm! Overall, a great experience. While I appreciate that this guy has gotten positive reviews, my experience couldn't have been worse. I took my father's watch in for a new crystal and band, agreed on the band, and was told it would be a couple of weeks. Months later, after many calls and learning he still hadn't even started on it, I picked it up and took it to another place. The thing I appreciated least is that he didn't bother to tell me he was not going to work on it, and indeed lied to me several times that he was. My relief that he still had the watch when I went to pick it up says volumes. I'm not sure if you can give someone a ZERO rating on Yelp; if you can change mine to that rating. Newt H. read more

Five stars for battery replacement and simple repairs and he is definitely a pretty nice guy but DO NOT leave a good watch there for an overhaul. The other single star reviews on Yelp are not exaggerations! I left my Rolex with him for a rebuild and it took ten months to get it back. I am not kidding. Ten months almost to the day. I started calling to check on it after the first month because he said to give him 2-3 weeks and he gave me the exact same replies as the other reviews: "Check back in a week." After the next couple of months I just started checking with him monthly and I'd carefully remind him of how long he'd had it and that I wasn't trying to rush or bother him because he was the one that told me to check back in a week. When I finally got the watch back it was running and looking good and I'd saved about $150 from what other jewlery stores had quoted me, so I was happy. Maybe I was just so happy to see it again? Then the watch started to malfunction after only a few months of wear (the last time he overhauled it the watch worked for years). I called and asked him if he'd adjust it for me since he just rebuilt it last year and informed me that there would be a cost involved regardless if it needed a part or not. That changed things permanently for me. It was obviously not worth the savings, he no longer offers a competitive service, he apparently couldn't care less about his reputation, and I will not be leaving any of my watches or money with him ever again. I went to see Mr Rees for the second time today. The first time was a couple of years ago. Both times, I was just getting a watch battery replaced. Both times, I was in and out of there very quickly. I am not sure if I was even there for 5 minutes today! $9.20 inc tax is a bargain and there isn't a place anywhere that I could have had it done any faster. I will not consider going anyplace else. i have lived in Austin for 6 years, and my experience today at Rees Watch Repair is one of the many reasons I love this city. After receiving my $80 Seiko watch via Amazon last week, I woke up this morning, read internet reviews about local watch repair shops, and made the decision to have the watch's band shortened at Rees Watch Repair. I normally shorten the band myself, but this particular watch has links fastened by oddly shaped, flat pieces of metal instead of pins. To say the least, I was stumped. More importantly, I didn't want to stupidly ruin the band by attempting to change it myself, nor did I want to pay $20 (I called around to other shops) to have someone fix something that takes less than 7 minutes, especially if its your profession. Anyways, I showed up, gave him my watch to shorten, had forgotten to bring cash, drove to the ATM, showed back up 15 minutes later, and received my watch less 3 links. Since he charged a VERY reasonable amount of money given the amount of craftsmanship needed to remove these links, I tipped him extra. I told Mr. Rees "I came here today because you had great reviews online." Without changing his facial expression, he responded "Hmm, that's what I've heard." Classic. I will definitely return to have other oddly shaped links removed and watch batteries replaced. read more

Everyone is saying how amazing this guy is. Well, if you read the reviews it sounds like he knows how to change a battery and glue on a crystal. Big deal. I asked him to service my ETA 2824-2, which is not very complicated, he said it may take him 2-3 weeks and it would cost ~$300. You f'ing kidding me? For a basic ETA service??? "He's so great. He changed my batter in 15 min" or "He changed my watch band in a snap of a finger" is NOT A SIGN OF A TRUE WATCHSMITH!!! Oh, and learn to change your own damn battery... It's a waste of your time going to a 'watchsmith' for such a simple task. read more

Mr. Ree's is AWESOME! I have a 20+ year old Citizen Auqaland dive watch that I truely love but no longer use it as a dive watch and thus do not need pressure testing. Mr Ree's replaced all three batteries for $22 in about three hours. When I used to send the watch to the factory for battery service ( batteries and pressure testing)it cost about $150 and took about 30 days to complete. Highly Recommend! read more

Found Rees on Yelp and it was right by my neighborhood so I decided to give it a shot. I forgot to bring cash (silly me) so I dropped off my watch to get the battery replaced and went down the street to an ATM. I came back a few minutes later and the watch was up and running! I would have chosen a no star rating for Mr. Rees' attitude of "You need me, I don't need you...". After reading all the nice reviews, I dropped off my watch....then it's been 3 weeks with no call back. So I called and was told it could be tomorrow or NEXT month. OK, patiently I waited and a week later got my watch back after pay about 1/2 of the original cost for the watch repair. The watch started delay about 5 min everyday since I got it back... brought it back to Mr. Rees and went through the cycle of 3 weeks wait, call with no answers.... Finally, I got it back and with an additional bill. I tried very politely to explain to him that I should not be charged for more since the watch was not working right after Mr. Rees repaired it. At that moment, Mr. Rees told me to take my watch somewhere else and don't come to him for future repair. WOW!! I was still being polite to the old man, I told him "Thank you" and in my head, I was puzzling how can you stay in business with an attitude like that?
