The Refined Skin Medi-Spa is absolutely nothing short of terrible. This one sentence can sum up my entire experience but allow me to elaborate so you can truly understand why going here would be THEE worst investment and waste of time you could ever make. First, I called at 9:30am to make an appointment for a chemical peel, which is a service provided by a licensed Esthetician and thus, it does not require any sort of pre-qualification or doctor's attention; anyone can get it. I was then scheduled for my chemical peel later in the day. Upon arriving, I meet with Sarah (whom I presume is an Esthetician). She washed her hands, used no gloves, examined my face with her fingers and within seconds, told me she would NOT be giving me the chemical peel I asked for, since the $900 (and obviously, more expensive) laser treatment would be best. For the remainder of my visit with Sarah, she did NOTHING but try to sell me on the benefits of a $195 facial scrubbing product (similar to a giant, electric toothbrush). She could not have oversold this product if she tried any harder. Then, Dr. Kory Tuominen, MD arrived and within seconds - without reviewing any of the pictures that were taken of my face or my needs - immediately told me that the most expensive laser surgery was what I needed and that a chemical peel just wasn't going to work. How in the heck were these "professionals" making the most expensive decisions for me, without even so much as a glance at my face or consideration for the fact that I wasn't interested in laser surgery nor do I have the means with which to afford it? Then, Dr. Kory Tuominen, MD also tried to sell me on the same face scrubbing product that Sarah did. Once more, I sat through an entire sales pitch on how great the $195 face scrubbing product was and how, with the purchase of the product, I would receive a $95 credit towards any in-spa services I wanted. I cannot say this enough: The entire 45 minute ordeal was nothing short of a sales pitch that went too long. I might as well have showed up to a 90-minute time share rental presentation and got better results. So, we came up with three treatment options, with my preferred option (the least expensive option) being the third and last choice. I told Sarah I wanted to go with my treatment option (which again, was the chemical peels) and she told me I could but instead of paying $150 per peel, I had to pay $400 upfront for the services because it just "made it easier on the office staff and was more convenient for me." Really? How is doling out $400 more convenient for me when I've clearly told you that finances are a huge concern for me? I left so dissatisfied and angered, that I have filed complaints with all professional associations (including the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice) against Dr. Kory Tuominen, MD and his staff for their unethical, incompetent and shamelessly sales-oriented practice. Checked into the St. James Hotel Friday and booked massages for my husband and me for Saturday. Karin, my massage therapist, was awesome. After feeling that my shoulders were super tight, she explained cupping and why it may be beneficial. And it was. She talked through every part of the process and I felt immediate results. She listened to all my needs and adjusted her treatment accordingly. Her work on my hips and glutes was nothing short of amazing. Another 5 star experience at Refined Skin Medi-Spa for me! I saw Dr. Tuominen for my collagen remodeling, which basically is a laser experience on my face to tell my own collagen to make more of itself so that my face doesn't "fall" or "droop" or look old too soon. No pain and was done in about 10 minutes. During the procedure he told me everything that he was about to do before he did it so I was at ease. We also did a follow-up on my legs. Dr. Tuominen took out my previous pictures of my leg veins that he lasered away. Amazing difference!!! I completely forgot the veiny legs I had and that I had stopped wearing shorts. I love my legs now! Dr. T is the best! I am also a monthly Refined Skin Plus Club member. Lots of discounts on medical procedures, plus I get my monthly massage for free. I just love this place. I've been getting services from Refined Skin Medi-Spa in Red Wing for several years when I am in town on business. I am never disappointed and always leave looking and feeling younger than when I entered. Clean place, comfortable, located in the St. James Hotel. Kory Tuominen, MD is the physician who does my procedures. He is personable, professional and makes me feel at ease. He never upsells and always gives treatment options. He describes exactly what he is going to do beforehand, and talks to you all the way through the procedures. When I'm in this medical spa, I feel like I'm in good hands. Dr. Tuominen has often gone out of his way to meet my hectic schedule with very little notice. Something else I like is that the staff is very professional and discreet and will usher you into a room upon arrival if requested. Love My New Skin! I look at least 10 years younger! Couldn't have experienced better results and I can't keep from looking into a mirror or catching my reflection in a window! I waited a long time to use laser services since I was a little nervous about lasers, but the nervousness was all in my head. The chemical peels I had used were very good, but didn't achieve the real result I was looking for. I trusted my facialist to tell the truth, which after the peel I realize, she had been. I wish I had gone with the laser much earlier like Dr. T. suggested. I bought the facial srubbing machine (starts with a C), and it exfoliates my skin so well, that it glows, but without irritation. Dr. Tuminen is the best and the staff made me feel very comfortable. My after-laser care was second-to-none. I'm going to have my niece and sister comment on this place also because they are sworn believers in Refined and the staff.
