The team was very kind and helpful towards us through our grief and mourning and made everything seamless for us to navigate. Lupe was especially very helpful and accommodating even when my brother and aunt were asking for a lot and had very particular requests. Everyone was very patient with us. The chapel punches above its weight; it's very clean, large, comfortable, and beautiful, especially for the value/cost. I consider myself pretty claustrophobic and uncomfortable with funerals but the large venue allowed me to have my own space at times. There are multiple packages available to accommodate to different religious faiths. Our Buddhist funerals are very extensive and involve a lot of decor, setting up, altars, but we did not have to worry about providing or doing any of that ourselves. Here in Orange County/Little Saigon, the other most popular funeral home is Peek which I find to be so crowded, commercialized, less warm and comforting, and the service is less thorough or comprehensive. Melrose Abbey, I believe, has been family-owned for a few generations hence why working with the team feels more cordial and personal. I recommend all Vietnamese families in the area to come here instead; far better value, better venue, while still accommodating to our traditions. My only complaint is that for some reason the staff wheeled my grandfather to the crematorium rather than having us pallbearers escort him; I was hoping it'd be my last moment with him. We were told to clutch onto the casket which did feel a bit misleading or confusing; I'd rather we just be told that we weren't going to do anything. Once again, I'd like to thank the team especially Lupe.

It was one of the best decisions I have made in my entire life. My contact person was Marisol. I was so confused and did not know anything on how to bring my mom back here in California. Marisol was very calm, very patient, very professional and guided me through the entire process. From start to finish, (dealing with the funeral home in the Phils, picking up my mom's remains in the airport, dealing with the life insurance company and the cemetery, filing the permits, even the reception room was personalized with my mom's favorite color, etc) Marisol and the entire staff - Lilia, Daniel, Jessica showed genuine empathy and a high degree of professionalism, delivering a flawless and dignified service. Their patience and care really meant a lot to me and the whole family. They never left us. We never felt hurried or just another 'client' . We felt that we are their 'family'. They were there until my moms burial in the cemetery. Words and money will never be enough to repay the empathy, patience and support that the staff gave us during this difficult time. We are deeply thankful and will never forget what you have done and how you made us all feel during this entire process. We love you guys. - Grace M and the whole Carcellar Family

After two years of concerns and disappointment, I honestly wasn't sure anything would change. Today, I met with five members of the Fairhaven team, including management and grounds personnel, to discuss the issues. I am pleased to say they took my concerns seriously and turned a very negative situation into a positive one. They explained the steps they have taken to correct the problem, including repairing and replacing sprinkler lines, addressing irrigation issues, and replacing the dead grass surrounding my father's gravesite. Most importantly, they listened. They acknowledged that the condition of the area was unacceptable and took responsibility for making it right. Losing a parent is difficult, and having confidence that their final resting place is being properly cared for means a great deal to families. I left today's meeting feeling reassured that Fairhaven is committed to maintaining the grounds and preventing these issues from happening again. Thank you to Stephanie Alvarez and the Fairhaven team for responding professionally, meeting with me personally, and taking action to address my concerns. I will continue to visit my father's gravesite regularly, but I am encouraged by the improvements that have been made and appreciate the effort to restore my confidence. The attached photo shows the condition of the area today.

To be fair, most of the employees we encountered were kind, and the makeup artist did a beautiful job preparing my dad for our private family visitation. Unfortunately, that is where the positive aspects of our experience ended. After our initial planning meeting, communication became extremely frustrating. My mom had questions throughout the process but rarely received return phone calls. She also had to repeatedly request a copy of the contract after being told it would be emailed to her. On the day of the graveside service, our family arrived early to spend a few private moments with my dad. His wishes were simple: military honors followed by a brief eulogy. As my mom and I waited at the gravesite, one of the attendants asked whether we wanted to remain for the lowering of the casket. This had never been discussed during the planning process and asking my mom to make that decision while sitting at her husband's graveside was heartbreaking. That conversation should have happened well before the day of the service. The attendants were pleasant, but they provided very little guidance. No one explained what to expect or what would happen next, leaving awkward pauses throughout the service. After the eulogy, we simply sat waiting until the grounds crew arrived with carts and equipment to lower the casket. It felt disorganized during one of the most emotional moments of our lives. What was especially upsetting was that less than a week after we buried my dad, the cemetery representative called my mom to schedule an appointment to discuss her own funeral arrangements. While we understand that preplanning is part of their business, the timing was incredibly insensitive. My mom was still grieving the loss of her husband, and that phone call added to what had already been a painful experience. In the end, our biggest disappointment wasn't that the staff were unkind, they weren't. It was the lack of communication, responsiveness, and compassion in guiding a grieving family through an experience that can never be repeated. My mom still talks about how cold and impersonal the graveside service felt, and that is not the memory any family should be left with.
