I've been interested in the funeral business since 2018 and have reached out to places on and off just hoping to learn more. I wasn't even asking for a job, just insight, but no one ever took the time to respond. Ryan did. He spent nearly two hours of his day talking with me, while still managing his work, answering all of my questions about the industry, his role, and what it's really like to be in this field. He even shared ways I could get started at an entry-level position, which was incredibly helpful and thoughtful. When my sister went under the care of hospice after a long battle with cancer, the hospice Chaplain gave me a list of mortuaries. The Chaplain told me to compare pricing and the services they offer, as there is a great difference from funeral home to funeral home. After calling several places I was horrified at the pricing, and even the staff answering the phone at some of the places were so cold and unconcerned with my situation. Then I noticed a little checkmark on the list of mortuaries next to Accord Burial and Cremation Services. Now I know why. From the very first call, the girl answering the phone was so kind and compassionate, she explained everything to me in a language I could understand. I told her what my sister's wishes were, and she answered all my questions on how we could achieve that. The pricing was also thousands less than any of the other places I had called. I am not the person who usual takes time to write reviews but in the case I felt it was necessary. Rather than go through all the details again, I will post the email I wrote to their company. You can make your decision after reading the email and decide if you want to still take the risk of being treated this way. Email is below: I am writing to you to inform you that I have chosen another mortuary to handle the cremation of my mother. I will say that I am very disappointed in the lack of understanding your company has displayed. While it is true that COVID has caused a backlog for mortuaries, it should not affect your mortuary from showing professionalism and empathy to your clients. I have been a nurse for over 20 yrs in the ER. During my career, I have hugged, comforted and guided more family members than I can count during their time of loss. For me, over the span of my career, my desire to show the families all the care, respect and professionalism they deserve has never wavered. What I experienced from your company, no individual should have to experience. It is quite obvious from my interactions with your company that you have lost your sense of true concern and empathy for your clients. I spoke with Bill over the phone at the beginning of last week. I filled out all the paperwork as requested and sent it back on March 18th. I tried to give your company time to review the paperwork. On March 24th I decided to call because I had not even received a reply as to the status of my paperwork. When I called last week to ask a question about the forms, I was told by you Ryan, that you " only had a few minutes to talk" in another conversation, I was told " it will be 3 to 4 weeks before we can do anything so don't worry about getting the paperwork right back to us". This is my mother and you made it feel as if she was just a business transaction. I pray that if you or your love one is sick one day, that you or they will not receive the cold, non caring , unprofessional treatment by medical staff that you have shown me and probably others who came to you in their time of need. read more

My experience was totally different from the reviews listed. My dad died 6/14. I went to Accord on 6/15. The reception I received was cold and matter of fact. Can I help you? Yes my dad died yesterday and I would like... couldn't finish my sentence when I was told he had someone ahead of me. The man told me that I needed to make an appointment. I asked if my dad's body could be picked up from the hospital. He said no, coldly. That it wasn't possible until next week. I said thank you and left. Maybe he was having a bad morning or didn't like the fact that I had the nerve to visit without calling first. Whatever the case may be, if you're hurting because you lost someone you love and cherish you might want to think twice about a place that lacks the common courtesy to realize that you're there because you need help making the final arrangements for your loved ones. Their website gives you the idea that they actually care. I didn't find that to be the case. If you are just shopping price this might be the place for you. This review is long overdue. In an effort to help arrange the affairs of a friend who was bed bound, we compared cremation and burial services/prices in 2017. Accord's affordable prices and array of services fit her budget. Most of our conversations were over the phone with Ryan. He was kind, understanding, knowledgeable and professional. Accord can do everything, but my friend had already made arrangements for a friend to do her memorial at our local hall so all she wanted, was a simple cremation and scattering of ashes. Since she was bed bound, we discussed the services they offered over the phone with Ryan. He mailed us all of her paperwork with instructions of where to sign and we called a couple times for clarification. She could only sign 1-2 pages each time we visited since we would discuss what each page was for, so the process took us a month before all the paperwork was signed and completed. We mailed it all with a check to Accord and received the acknowledgment in 2018. Sadly my dear friend passed away February 2019. Since she had no close family it was thoughtful of her to complete these arrangements in advance. Accord did all that she asked and our experience was positive. I still recommend Accord to others based on our experience. Looking back, I appreciate their patience, humanity and kindness in dealing with a very difficult issue which has become even more challenging in these Covid times. I felt comfortable entrusting them with my mother who had just passed, and I was thankful we found a place within our budget, which I also know was important to mom. It took almost two weeks for my mother's cremains to be ready; however this was due to a holiday, and also a minor delay getting her cause of death signed by the doctor. After Close to a year of this experience, I am now able to voice my experience with all of you. First of all I need to say; yes this is the cheapest place I had found. Second is that I was reminded of that by the manager of this place each time I called regarding my mother's ashes, and then concerning the death certificates with the wrong SSN number on them. It took over a month to pick up her remains, I called after 12 days as I was told to do, and they kept saying they were waiting for her to be cremated. I called the following week, and again the same story, they were still waiting. I was told they charge very little and are not making a profit. I was told it was because they want to help people. Look, they chose to make their prices; it does not mean that they can treat their customers as they will with no compassion. I paid what was expected of me, and should have gotten the respect, and courtesy that was owed to me. The guy that helped me was very caring when I went in to make arraignments; he helped me when I had never been through anything like this before. When I called back that next week to speak with him, they told me that they had let him go. When I got the certificates back and they were incorrect I told them that when I checked over it the information was correct, they said that they had it written down as I said, I said no, this was wrong and I never even heard of the SSN they had on the certificate, it was not correct. They later said the hospital gave them the wrong SSN. I had paid for 6 but they said since it was half my fault and half there's they would pay for 3 additional corrected certificates and send them to me. I thought this was wrong, unfair, but I just wanted to get the correct certificates and my mom's remains and be done with this place. I picked up the remains 5 weeks later. I feel this was unacceptable. The 3 Certificates that was promised to me, was never delivered, and when I called back again and again leaving multiple messages with the manager and then the owner, I had neither a call back nor my certificates. It will be 1 year of my mother's passing. I am just able to talk about the bad service. I feel they took advantage of a bad situation and this was unfortunate. I think it is best to pay more and get the service one should get rather than save money and go through the horrible experience I did. Lesson learned. read more

I want to start out by saying how thankful I am for finding Accord. My wife was in hospice for just a few days prior to passing. I knew what we wanted to do, but didn't know where to start. My wife wanted to be cremated and because I am a woodworker and carver, she wanted me to make the Urn. I began researching cremation services in the area and talked with Accord. I liked what they had to say and what they offered. Of course, I checked out Yelp and found one bad and one good review. I really liked and respected the professional response from Accord to the bad review. That prompted me to meet with them. When I arrived, I was greeted by Lorenzo who was very professional and compassionate. I told him exactly what I wanted, and he made it happen. No pressure or sales tactics at this place. I was very impressed with how organized and knowledgeable Lorenzo was. He assisted me with the necessary paperwork making it much easier to do. He explained how everything would work and I left feeling like I just hired the best. My wife passed away last week. The hospice folks coordinated with Accord who took over everything. Ryan and another gentleman arrived and were reassuring and were very professional and caring. They completed the job that needed to get done quickly. Everything that was told to me was accurate and followed the time line. I can't thank the owner and all the employees enough for the way they treated me and my wife. We had an excellent experience with Accord burial and cremation. My husband's mother was on hospice a short time before she passed but made it clear that she wanted "simple". My husband had the time to research and make burial arrangements prior to her death. Initially, he was appalled at the costs charged by most mortuaries and their associated burial fees. He was pleasantly surprised to find that Accord offered the same services, the same options, the same support as high cost mortuaries but with much more reasonable costs. Although everyone was aware of my husband's mother's impending death, everything was still highly emotionally charged when she passed. Ryan helped immensely by taking charge. Ryan made all arrangements for the family from the beginning to the end for with kindness, compassion and consideration. He took the time to explain all the details with great patience and empathy. These two men were so kind in their words and actually helped me find comfort even in such a tragic time. I picked up my Father's ashes today and as I walked out I told the staff that I would go on yelp for them. So here it goes.......My Pops was found deceased in his apartment on March 9,2015 and within days my family was scrambling trying to find something affordable and professional. Well from the first phone call with Jeff all the way through with Luis I can honestly say they did a pretty darn good job. :). Yes we had a delay getting a signature to get him cremated but that wasnt their fault, and they helped us deal with it and made many phone calls to myself letting me know exactly where in the process we were. Accord provided excellent service. Jeff and Bryan were absolutely wonderful and i dont throw thos words around easily! Let me start by saying that my brother passed away at 3:21 a.m. and Kindred Hospital asked if I could have him picked up within a few hours. So we had a funeral home do just that. It was a Saturday and by Monday I was on the phone with the VA Decedent Affairs Department. They asked how much I would be paying and recommended a couple of places ( Accord being one) that would do a cremation for a fraction of the cost, $569 instead of $1,795. So I arranged for Accord to pick him up. They did so the very next morning. That was on 5/6/15 and I got the cremains today 5/18, just 12 days after. I had been worried. When i sign him out of the first place, they went out of their way to help with the process, even faxing the necessary forms to Accord and making me copies and such. Was I going to get the same service at Accord. Well yes I did! Accord has a very caring and thoughtful staff. Jeff explained the paperwork that needed to be filed ( permits and such) prior to cremation and took care of everything in one visit. This visit was on 5/13/15, last Wednesday. Today is Monday , he was cremated yesterday and I have my brother's ashes back. Accord is about a 35 minute drive away and the guy who called noticed my address and that he passes through here on his way home from work. His name is Bryan and he's wonderful! He offered to deliver my brothers cremains. This staff if great and I thought I was giving up that part for an affordable cremation. My 85 year old mother was with me and all the while they just wanted to make sure she was okay. So I highly recommend Accord Cremation and Burial Service. I read one review that complained about how long it took. You need to know that anyplace has to wait for the doctor to sign off for the death certificate before they can even file for the permit. I most definitely need to thank all the staff at Accord for Making this process easier for me. read more

However, our experience with the Accord staff was actually comforting and stress-free. I called around to at least 3 other mortuaries before I spoke to Bill at Accord. Immediately, I knew this was the place we wanted to take my dad to after he passed. Bill was honest, sympathetic and he offered great advice and gave me information all of which set my mind at ease. Accord is not a greedy business and they do not take advantage of the emotional state people who are making arrangements for their loved one are experiencing. Our experience was new to our family and during the days that we were waiting for our dad to pass, we called Accord a few times to ask questions that came up. Never did anyone who answered the phone make us feel like we were bothering them. The two men who came to pick up my dad the night he passed, were also very compassionate and respectful to our family. When it was time to make payment, my mom and I sat down with Ryan who was also top notch in customer service. It was a very comfortable meeting and he was very kind to my mom and the process was quick and easy. (They have the forms on their website. We had most of the paperwork filled out before we got there which saved us a lot of time) We believe, Ryan and Bill are definitely in the right business as it takes very special people to do this type of work. I looked up the website for Accord because my Mother inlaw is very sick and we have been informed to get our affairs in order. My father died some years ago and Accord was recommended. I called them and I was treated with respect and sympathy for my loss. I had gone to White and Day originally because I didn't know where to start. Although they were very pleasant, I did not want a viewing or a service, I just wanted him cremated and I would take him to Riverside to be honored as a veteran. It is a very emotional time when a loved one passes and difficult to process it all. The process at Accord was very comforting knowing that they would take care of everything like getting my dad from the hospital and reassuring that they would take care of him. They did just that!!!! I filled out paper work and signed the dotted line and they did the rest. I felt so relived that I didn't have to do anything else because I didn't know what to do. Although, the process did take time, and I did wonder what if I was having a service? I would not of had his remains in the "normal" 3 days you normally see. I was OK with that. Now for the part that gets uncomfortable. I was qouted about $2500.00 from the mortuary, and I said price is not the issue ( and it really wasn't) but when I called Accord, the fee for all they did for my Dad and myself emotionally was VERY RESONABLE! They told about how many days it would take and I agreed. I picked up his ashes and once again I was treated with compassion. I am very sorry for the loved ones that did not have the same experience that I had. Things happen and sometimes it doesn't go well, especially when our loved ones has passed. I had spilled coffee down the front of my shirt on my way to Accord and was embarrassed when I got there and babbled on and on about the coffee ( I felt like I was spinning just because of what I was dealing with) I don't remember the mans name that was there but he quitetly left the room and came back with a T Shirt for me. He didn't have to do that but he did. The mood was lightened when I asked him where he got the shirt, and my friend and I started laughing. The shirt made me feel better for some strange reason. I will be calling Accord this week to get info on the process for when my mother inlaw passes. We will not be having a viewing or a service for her but taking her home to Texas. So if it takes a few more days then we are OK with that!! If I were to have a service and all the bells and whistles maybe I would just let the mortuary handle it all, but Accord gave me everything I needed and I thank them for that. read more
