    Serenity sandwich
    Mrs L.

When I walked in it wasn't clear whether you're supposed to walk up to the counter or just take a seat. Turns out, you do in fact order and pay first and then sit anywhere you'd like. Online had avocado toast as an option but the gentleman inside the restaurant said that wasn't an option. I ordered the Serenity sandwich. Not much of a breakfast sandwich girlie (or tofu) but this was pretty good! A few more options would be great. The seating area could use an uplift, some of the booths were dirty and some had duck tape holding the cushions together . While eating I noticed a couple door dashers come in to retrieve orders but for some reason the system was down and said orders hadn't been received by the restaurant. A little disorganized and room for improvement.

So I went to the bar and no one said a word to me although I'm standing right there. I asked for help and I was stared at as if I were speaking a different language. I advised the young lady I was waiting on a brewed coffee and an iced matcha latte she said ok and asked for my receipt, then said someone will bring it to me. I told her I was waiting but whoever brought my food took my number. So she said she'll take care of it. I waited 10 minutes and another young lady (pixie cut) came to me and asked what I needed, I told her I was waiting on 2 drinks and showed her my receipt. She apologized, but had no idea what was going on. So I waited again, she brings out my drinks in a holder cuz my hands were full. I get to the car and the brewed coffee is literally cold and not sweet (I asked for 3 Splendas and 2 creams, it was also on my receipt). So I bring it back in and I'm ignored again by 2 workers just standing there making small talk. After getting her attention, I advised her the coffee was cold. She pours me another cup then sets it down aggressively. I asked for cream and sugar and at this point, her face said, I pretty much sh*tted on her day. She pours half & half into a creamer glass and slides it to me. I then ask for Splenda, she said, it's over there. However, it's Stevia, so I asked for regular sugar and she said we don't carry that. Had I known they don't carry Splenda and/or regular sugar I would not have ordered a regular brewed coffee.I remove the lid and of course the coffee will s just lukewarm. I just add cream and grab some raw brown sugar and leave. I was too aggravated to go full Karen cuz at that point my attitude was worse than the young lady making drinks that day. The steak sandwich was a huge pass for me. The bread was like a wet brick with about 6 slices of steak on it. The bread to meat ratio was totally off and not worth it. On a positive note... The iced Matcha latte, pastries and the sweet potato fries were amazing. Next time I'm in KC, I'll have to find a new GF place to patronize.

The restaurant is not massive so I would recommend a reservation if you can, or you may end up needing to wait for a table (they only do dinner reservations). One thing I would want to mention is the tables are a bit close together making it a little awkward when you're getting up. We had to move our table to let the folks sitting next to us in and then again when we were leaving. I couldn't wait to try the Filthy Martini, a spring specialty cocktail, which contains both pickle AND olive juice + pickle stuffed olives and a salt and pepper rim. It was just exactly what I wanted and would come back solely for the cocktail. For dinner, I had the Yoshoku Beef Curry and it was delicious. The meat was so savory and the runny egg was a perfect add. Strongly recommend if you like Japanese curry. We cannot wait to come back to try brunch and we are also looking forward to their Dinette location downtown opening on the weekends to give that spot a try as well.

We were welcomed with a brief overview of the company and treated to a sparkling matcha limeade on the patio. Following this we were treated to a fantastic sandwich and beverage pairing. Then paired with a cold brew mixed with Coca-Cola and topped with a cherry-vanilla cold top. Phenomenal. Just as incredible was the bakery case. After a tough decision making process, I took home a cookie, Lemon Goat Cheesecake, and blueberry pop-tart. The cheesecake and poptart were best I've ever had in each category and the cookie that I didn't even get a taste of, was declared "the best damn cookie I've ever had" by my wife. The nutty bitterness from the fontina added a little bit too much contrast for me. This would be a good choice for people who like sweet and salty things. Overall, each component was tasty, but this particular sandwich wasn't exactly my preferred taste! The oat milk latte was good! Nice and foamy with a good amount of bitterness from the espresso. I was curious about their huge pastry case and would love to try those in the future.
