My husband and I had lunch here today, and it was absolutely DELIGHTFUL! I am very impressed with how WELL the staff work together. They absolutely have the processes of this little restaurant honed to perfection, and even during a busy lunch time kept things humming so that there was minimal wait time (to order, for the food to be brought out, and to pay for our meal). Many, MANY thanks to Robert, who seated us, took our order, brought our food out, and settled our bill. He was friendly, efficient, and so welcoming. It was a joy to watch him work; he made sure to greet each and every customer coming in the door, and was consistently so upbeat and positive. And many, MANY thanks to Tony at the grill! Our food was FANTASTIC!! I have high standards for Mediterranean food, and the falafel wrap was totally delicious! The falafel itself was perfectly cooked, with a crispy outer layer, and the other ingredients in the wrap were chosen for a perfect melding of flavors. I had the side salad, with homemade Thai peanut dressing, and it was equally tasty. My husband had the patty melt, which came on homemade bread (!) and was, per his report, perfectly done. His side was tater tots, and we shared them. They were crisp and light without being greasy, and addictively yummy! The restaurant is in a strip center; it's not very big, but the tables are well placed so that no one feels cramped. The open reception area and kitchen/grill make it easy for the staff to respond to what's happening in the dining room (e.g., new folks arriving). Super cute brunch place! This location is super small so try and time when you go. The kitchen is in the same area as the eating room which, for at least when I was there, made the AC super cold and made the food cool down significantly. Service was great and pretty quick. The western omelet was really good, plenty of cheese. Their hashbrowns had a nice crisp to them/ their sourdough toast was buttered and very crispy, I really enjoy a good slice of sourdough. The burrito was also really good, packed full. Chose chorizo as the meat and it was very tasty. Also tried the lemon ricotta pancakes which were the perfect amount of sweet and zest. We tried this cute breakfast and brunch joint this past weekend. It's a small place and was very full on a Saturday at brunch. The service was still pretty good considering how busy it was. The two servers who both waited on us at different times were great but different personalities. One was a little bossy but I liked her and got the got the giggles a couple of times when you could tell she got a tad annoyed with customers who just didn't listen. The other one was extremely sweet. I enjoyed watching them handle a lot of tables with just the 2 of them. Good team! We both got the French Feast Royale. Two eggs, meat, hash browns, and French toast. The platter is $14.50. Their house coffee is very good. We both enjoyed our breakfast! They sell some breads and I want to try their cinnamon rolls next time too! This is definitely a local spot close by we will be trying again. My Dad used to go to this place years ago. Thought I'd try it. Tiny, mostly empty diner. Unremarkable interior in every way. I had a breakfast quesadilla, came with a small side of fruit, and coffee. My bill was $24 so after tip of 22%(generous!) the bill was $30!!! THIRTY DOLLARS FOR A TORTILLA WITH SOME EGGS AND CHEESE AND A COFFEE! Quite the menu. I thought it was just a breakfast joint but there was some unexpected menu items. I stuck with the French toast which was devoured before I remembered to take a photo. Limited dining space inside but there's some outdoor seating as well. There's currently a notice on the register that they would prefer cash to help cut their credit card fee costs, but cash is not required to eat here. Maybe seating for 20, place has been here since at least 2005 or earlier. Lots of bkfast/lunch choices including the panwich. IMHO the other location is a bit more cozy/less crowded but they may specialize more in takeout as this is across Quivira from JCCC. We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant, and it was honestly the best food I have had in a long time! My philly steak had a homemade hoagie bun, and was big enough for two meals! My son said the hamburger was great and tasted so fresh, and my husband said that his western omelette and wheat toast were delicious. We ordered cinnamon rolls to go, and they were amazing! It's a rarity to find a restaurant with homemade breads and locally sourced fresh food! The owners were friendly, made us feel welcomed, and service was promp! Now, I just want to preface by saying that I ordered to go and did not eat in.. so maybe my experience would've been better, had I dined in. I decided to give this place a try after seeing lots of positive reviews. I ordered the ultimate burrito with sausage.. but definitely did not receive sausage, i'm honestly not sure what kind of meat they decided to add to the burrito but it was very dry. The ultimate burrito is supposed to have pico in it, but i also didn't get any pico. I think the burrito would be elevated with some avocado in it. The hash browns were just your ordinary hash browns, nothing great. My s/o ordered the biscuits and gravy and the texture was not good... the biscuits and gravy had a strange smell to them and they just were not good at all. we stopped in , we have had lunch there before which was wonderful . today , not sooo much . we were there for breakfast. we ordered pancakes , my husband got a full helping and I ordered a half . we received 3 tiny things of syrup . my pancakes were burned on the sides . we needed more syrup , my husband tried to get the servers attention 3 times , to no avail . they were short staffed ( we understand ) however you can still acknowledge your customers. The bacon was not good . more fat than meat . not crispy at all . we decided to get the rest to go . took 25 minutes to get the bill and a box to go . might I add that each little tiny cup of syrup was an extra dollar. ( we just needed more syrup and would have paid for 4 more ) however , we were never acknowledged. we work in retail and understand staffing issues . however , this was just very poor service. read more

FPO and I had just finished shopping at the Lenexa Farmers Market and were hungry. I wanted breakfast food so we consulted our best friend, the Yelp app. The Wooden Spoon is a place I'd bookmarked on a previous vacay to KC. The food pictures looked awesome, it was pretty near to where we were, and it was open. The Wooden Spoon serves breakfast and lunch all day so, if we'd wanted a burger or something else to go along with that free fries we got from Yelp for our first check in, we could've. But, we stuck with breakfast and were both glad of it. FPO got the Angry Irishman (in house bribed corned beef hash, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, 2 eggs, and toast). And, because FPO can usually eat more than I can, a half size Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. All I kept hearing was an occasional, "there's a lot of meat in this". Other than that ... silence. Which, means some serious eating is going on. This is something that will absolutely be ordered again. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes were good but even with the amazing Raspberry syrup, it suffered by comparison. Still, I could see a repeat of the pancakes happening one of these days too. I, pesce-politarian in training that I am, ordered the Salmon Benedict. The salmon was smokey and paired well with the richness of the poached egg. The hash browns I got with them were "vegan", they have a vegan butter/spray/product that they use upon request. I couldn't tell the difference between vegan and regular and in my book that makes it a winner. The Wooden Spoon is a family restaurant, around for about ten years. The people are really nice, the place is pretty clean (vents could use a little help), and the tables are set fairly far apart so although they aren't social distancing, there's enough room between the tables that you're not right on top of each other. Oh, and there's outdoor seating too. That was nice. This place is definitely in for a return visit. read more

The service was great! Very hospitable and friendly employees. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. We started with a cinnamon roll and it was fantastic. I've been coming to this location for about six months. Initially, I was really impressed with the quality of the food and friendly, attentive service. The menu has a good variety, includes gluten-free options, and prices are competitive. Over the past couple of months, however, things have started to go downhill. Until today's visit, the food was still very good, but the service has been lackluster and the food slow to come out from the kitchen. There seems to be a lot of employee turnover here. Today was definitely not up to par. Although they didn't appear busy, the food took over half an hour to arrive, and the pancakes were different from they had been previously, as though the recipe had changed. They were also extremely dry. The service was marginal, and we had to either flag down the server or approach the cash register to get what we needed. Not sure if I will be back. read more

They have amazing food here! My only complaints thus far have been the service. My first time here was perfect in every way. My second time I realized the owner is usually there and while he seems like a pretty nice guy; he does not take the approach the customer is always right from my experience. They do not make it clear exactly when you're ordering that some thing is going to result in a up charge. Once I even ordered exactly what was on the menu, however, our server entered it in wrong. When we got the bill, we simply told the server about it. Rather than simply fixing a few dollar up charge on a already large bill. The owner came over and started giving us kind of a hard time asking if we ordered it. When we pointed out that we did order it because that's what it said, came with it on the menu he still didn't quite want to take it off. He did finally agreed to take it off, but it created a very awkward situation. The idea that a restaurant would haggle over a few dollars on $100 bill isn't something that would be expected at a restaurant where their prices are on the higher end. However, the food is really good. You will just want to make sure you clearly communicate what your ordering and ask that there will be no up charges to confirm. The cinnamon roll that they have is also pretty good, but it doesn't really travel very well. If you're going to get it, I would recommend ordering it first not getting one to go. I've never had anything here that was not really tasty. However, the prices are on the higher end of all the area breakfast locations. I will still keep going back because it really is tasty. I'm just extra careful to make sure that what is put in for the order is what I am expecting. read more

We never realized how small this place is on the inside until we walked in today! It literally is a hole in the wall place. Family run business. Super friendly - very attentive. They noticed they had never seen us before so Wayne (the owner) took great care of us, offered suggestions, explained items. Place was packed and only went on a wait for two tables but people were constantly coming in. It's a little awkward when you walk in because there is no hostess, and so you find yourself standing in the middle of the dining area trying to figure out what to do. Thankfully a table got up right about 3 minutes after we came in so we were seated while they cleared the table off. The menu is small but has a great selection of breakfast and lunch that are both served all day. Hubs went with the angry Irishman breakfast which is a corned beef hash topped with gravy and two eggs. He said it was delicious about...10 times. I tried a bite of it and goodness it was tasty! I'll order that next time. I ordered an omlette where you are able to choose 4 Item to go in it. I chose the biscuit because you can get toast literally anywhere....the omlette was packed full of ingredients and the biscuit was home made and very good. Most places had a wait list and this tired family was ready to get on the road. What brought us in was the gluten free pancakes.... What made it fun was the local family owned experience. We we arrived there were not many people which we were thankful yet nervous about. However; upon arriving the place quickly filled up so apparently we arrived at the "right" time! We were in the area, needed breakfast, and YELP led us here. The Wooden Spoon is very small -- about 10 tables. Service was prompt and the food was very good. They keep your coffee cup full. DH had scrambled eggs and toast. I ordered the Classic Benny. His eggs were perfect. My benedict was very good but not very much hollandaise. It's as if they didn't use any dairy whatever in making it. Mostly tasted bland and peppery. The hash towns were also bland and pretty basic. The corned beef wasn't anything special either. The eggs were ok and the sourdough toast was fine, but also not nearly as flavorful as expected for being homemade. The tater tots were really the only thing that had any flavor to them. The staff noticed that we didn't eat much of the gravy either, and after tasting it themselves they agreed it was bland. The Wooden Spoon does not disappoint in the corned beef hash category, in fact they offer 2 options - the regular hash and the "angry Irishman" which is hash with fresh jalapenos. What makes their hash so good is the corned beef that they use. it's full of flavor and is not dried out. I've been to other breakfast joints that use cheap, canned corned beef and it's gross. The interior is small, and on a cold day try to sit away from the door otherwise you will get a winter draft up your backside all day. read more
