I just want to say what a GREAT experience I've had dining at Hemma Hemma! I've been there twice so far, and have been consistently impressed. This past week, I joined a friend for lunch, and we both want to formally thank Dana at the front counter for being so welcoming, gracious and helpful. I accidentally knocked over the menu holder, and she reassured me that it was fine and happens frequently. My friend and I split the bill for our order, and she cheerfully rang up each of our portions separately. She guided us through some of the menu options which was much appreciated as there were some new items since my last visit. The food here is FANTASTIC!! I can't remember what I ordered on my first visit (but I do remember that it was delicious!); this week, I had the Brookside Buiddha Bowl, which was AMAZING! Even the presentation was wonderful (see attached photo)! All the ingredients were delicious, and the flavors melded beautifully, and it was so satisfying; it kept me fueled and focused during a long afternoon at work. My friend had the Pickle Chicken Bacon Ranch salad and said it was mouth-wateringly fabulous. The weather was nice enough to sit in the outside patio, which is well-appointed (even a free water station); the first time I was here, I ate indoors and the dining area is light, airy, and expansive, with plenty of room between tables and quiet enough to chat. Having such a healthy, delicious restaurant in the neighborhood is marvelous, and I'm already planning my next trip back to Hemma Hemma! Thank you all SO much! read more

Walking into Hemma Hemma, you feel welcomed in it's cozy, inviting space. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and it is apparent that consideration for the home-y vibe went into every aspect of the design of the space. The restaurant is not massive so I would recommend a reservation if you can, or you may end up needing to wait for a table (they only do dinner reservations). One thing I would want to mention is the tables are a bit close together making it a little awkward when you're getting up. We had to move our table to let the folks sitting next to us in and then again when we were leaving. I couldn't wait to try the Filthy Martini, a spring specialty cocktail, which contains both pickle AND olive juice + pickle stuffed olives and a salt and pepper rim. It was just exactly what I wanted and would come back solely for the cocktail. For dinner, I had the Yoshoku Beef Curry and it was delicious. The meat was so savory and the runny egg was a perfect add. Strongly recommend if you like Japanese curry. We cannot wait to come back to try brunch and we are also looking forward to their Dinette location downtown opening on the weekends to give that spot a try as well. read more

After wanting to go for ages, I finally was able to get to Hemma Hemma. Went there on a Saturday morning around 9 AM with a friend. There were still plenty of seating which was a relief for me. I was seated right away. I wasn't very impressed with our waitress, I'll be honest because it took her a long time to come and take our drink orders. Anyway, I started with a chai latte. She made it very confusing to order because apparently their chai is green tea so there's no caffeine so in order to do that you have to order a dirty chai with the espresso and that you know obviously made the flavor less chai forward. And they only have whole milk, oat milk, and soy milk - no skim, which was disappointing for my meal companion's coffee. I'm a biscuits and gravy freak, but I decided I would branch out and I tried their breakfast burrito but I did get a biscuit on the side, so I knew for next time. The burrito was so delicious! And big. I took half of it home. The biscuit was fantastic and I look forward to trying the biscuits and gravy. My friend got their ricotta toast and it was beautiful to look at. As far as the ambience, it is an adorable space with a lot of character. It was a bit loud because they put the tables pretty close together, but for Saturday morning, it was a great vibe. I absolutely would go back because the food was great but the waitress just wasn't quite where we needed her to be because she was confusing and slow. Cue Lizzo "about damn time." It took me long enough to make my way over to Hemma Hemma though it's been on my list literally since they opened their doors. When Donna Kelce listed it as amongst her favorite spots in KC I just knew it was going to be a slam dunk and yet it STILL took me this long to make my way over. All that being said, I have a standing lunch date with a friend on my calendar and after looking at her text that simply said "Hemma Hemma?" I was so excited to give it a try. I was just coming from a meeting near the Plaza so it was a quick jaunt for me, and I was honestly surprised to find that Hemma Hemma is located in Waldo, right on Wornall. Turns out I've driven past it countless times and never even realized it. For a weekday lunch at noon I was a bit worried about parking but I was able to get a really close spot right on Wornall so don't let that deter you one bit. When you walk in it's honestly kind of perfect brunch/lunch vibes. It's sort of like a marriage of a cozy cafe and a chic home kitchen. You feel welcome and relaxed. It's an order at the counter kind of place and I had their pickle fried chicken salad (forgive me for not remembering the official name!). It was divine. I will say it was very crowded when I was in there but there were plenty of seats, mostly because they've used the space well and there is ample room for single diners to sit at a large communal table in the back, which really frees up tables for folks that are there to chat with someone. Finally got to try this place as it has been highly talked about and the reviews aligned well with my own experience. Since it was a Saturday, we did their brunch. Started off with the Masa pancakes, which with the cinnamon butter was a hit. Then the entrees included their breakfast burrito and their Waldo bowl. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauces are incredible. The only downside was that we ordered the pancakes to come out as a starter, but it all came out together, so some of the food got cold since we didn't want to mix in sweet pancakes with savory eggs. read more

I went there for brunch with two of my friends and the decor was super cute. There is a seating area when you walk in and an area where you can order coffee and other drinks to go. There is a back room area that is decorated like a kitchen inside of a home. We shared a cinnamon roll that was good. I ordered the H-Ville Hot Chicken Sando with fries and both were good and a nice serving size. We also ordered a tequila sunrise that was good but was a little pricey. Super cute little place! If you're looking for some fun upscale vibes this is the place for you! I had the salmon toast which was so yummy, and aesthetically pleasing super refreshing and filling as well! I also tried the iced spiced pear matcha latte with oat milk 10/10! Not too sweet and just super Yumm! The true star of the show was the cinnamon roll, it was HUGE, so soft and warm! The icing want overly sweet, it was more like a cream cheese type icing which I loved. Ontop of all that the parking was easy! There's some out front and a small lot in the back. I stopped by here with my sister for a late Saturday lunch/brunch. The space is absolutely adorable - super well-decorated and clean. I ordered the BEC sandwich and she had a salad. I also had to add on the ginger cookies that were covered in icing. My sandwich was delicious. The egg was souffled, resulting in a thick fluffy egg layer. The sandwich was a great size and had a ton of flavor. My sister also really enjoyed her salad. The ginger cookie was AMAZING. It reminded me of a better version of the Little Debbie Gingerbread cookies that come out around Christmas time. The cookies were soft and the icing was plentiful. I have been wanting to visit Hemma Hemma for some time now, and I'm glad I finally stopped in for breakfast! The counter to order at is right inside the door to the left. They have the menu posted on the wall, but there are some physical copies to look at as well. At the counter, there are some grab & go options, pastries, and drinks. Otherwise, you order at the counter and take your number to a table. The space isn't tiny, but I can see how it would get super busy on the weekends during peak brunch hours. There are even signs on the tables encouraging folks to turn over tables if many people are waiting. On a weekday, I had no trouble finding a table. There's a water station in the middle of the space, and all your silverware is on the table. The food came out hot and quick! I am a breakfast sandwich expert, and the BEC was solid! The scallion sauce on top was delicious but otherwise nothing super special. The whipped ricotta toast was a great slightly sweet addition to the breakfast table. Beyond the food, the vibes in Hemma Hemma are adorable, and the staff are super friendly and helpful! We came here for brunch and I had the county breakfast which is their take on a classic breakfast platter served with eggs any style, potatoes, bacon and their special gravy which was so tasty! I've heard so much about Hemma Hemma and was so excited to try it! My party of four arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday and were seated with no wait even though it was definitely busy. This was a little disappointing but we did see someone order it while we were eating. One of my friends also ordered California chicken sandwich but received a h-ville hot chicken sandwich. When she told the food runner it was incorrect, they told her there was no other chicken sandwich on the menu. Our server didn't check on us until we were finished eating so they never had a chance to correct it. The hot chicken sandwich was still good, but just not what we ordered. Amazing brunch and adorable decor! We stopped by Hemma Hemma on a Saturday morning for brunch and were immediately struck by the modern, Midwestern, cozy vibes. The restaurant has a counter for ordering their breakfast and lunch items, as well as baked goods from Ibis, coffee drinks and a small market with pre-prepared items to go. We ordered smoked salmon toast, pimento fried chicken sandwich, chocolate chip cookies, tahini cookies, brown butter blueberry cake, and a cold brew - everything was top notch and amazing! My smoked salmon toast was a standout - perfect herbed feta and bite sized pieces of salmon - highly recommend! Ibis baked goods are always fantastic and did not disappoint this time. Our service was friendly and quick, and we were able to get a table right away, they have lots of seating. The restaurant asks if you will bus your own table to help them out, which they make pretty easy with lots of bins and receptacles. Highly recommend Hemma Hemma! We will be back!! read more

RUN to this place! We had heard about it and finally went around 10:30 on a Friday. Ample seating at that time but we did get the LAST cinnamon roll so keep that in mind because it might be the best in the city!! And I've tried them all bcz I'm always on a quest for the best one! The B&G was delicious. Unique with maybe curry and turmeric but still classic enough for those who like the original! The biscuits are very buttery and flaky, too!! They have prosecco in the cold case and also some Sonoma red wine in a bottle so you can make your lunch or brunch boozy and I like that option. They have a walk up window for to go orders and that was good since it didn't mess with the flow inside. Three different rooms for seating. One lounge area where you order and grab things from the cold case, a main dining room with lots of seating and the kitchen at the back, and then a large side room which is the cooking class kitchen where lots of seating is available when not in use for classes. Combo of delivery to table and also bussing your own tableware. You can order for catering and also rent out the space, so lot of options here. Some will flock here for a grab and go pre-packaged meal on the run, others for their coffee bar and others for their culinary classes, but I just came in for the Sunday brunch menu. The name is Hemma Hemma but my biscuits and gravy were Hubba Hubba! A fresh buttermilk biscuit with a sausage gravy sounds pretty basic, but the creamy gravy immediately gave me multiple flashbacks of past dishes with subtle hints of curry and paprika in the rich creamy goodness. Cute brunch spot! Got there at 9:30 and there was a small line. You order at the desk and then find a seat and they'll bring everything to you! They have so many food options from sandwiches, bowls, toast, and burritos. Tried their seasonal sticky rice matcha and it was amazing. Their matcha is really good and there's a subtle mango flavor. Also tried the passion fruit tonic matcha, not a fan at all. I don't think anything sparkling should be near a matcha. Their Waldo bowl was delicious! Nice serving size and a little kick in the flavor. Their whipped ricotta honey toast was also delicious! A nice big fluffy piece of toast with a thick whipped ricotta drizzled with honey. It can be tough to find a table when it is a busy day. It would be beneficial for the resturant to spilt up some of the tables as there are a lot of larger tables as opposed to smaller two person tops. This place is aces. I honestly didn't know what to expect -- quite literally, because I wasn't sure if it was all grab & go, or if they offered actual hot meals (spoiler alert: they do), so I was glad to try it out and get the lay of the land. For starters, the whole place is a vibe. Great aesthetic, welcoming staff, and lots to look through. You most definitely can go here for a meal! Sure there's some nice grab & go options and even a coffee bar, but those are in addition to the restaurant, not just stand alone. Their staff will guide you through if you're a first timer, but if you're there to eat: head towards the right, grab a tray, and you'll see all the tasty options available that day. We tried a farro salad that was delicious, and a chicken caesar wrap that was equally delicious. My wife had a matcha tea drink that she loved and would go back for. Oh and we had to try a cookie and went out of left field with the "tahini cookie" which, you guessed it, was delicious. There's nothing not to like here, it's a great addition to the neighborhood and fits in well IMO.
