I see no evidence of this... but he is likely more in the know. Food - Absolutely fantastic little breakfast and brunch selections. Cooked to order the way you like it. If you are a fan of the old diner breakfast, then this is your kind of place! Service - Always fast, kind, and friendly. Everything comes out of a hidden kitchen that you never hear anything from. Shout out the amazing staff at Santa Fe Cafe! My cousin held a graduation party in the afternoon in this establishments. The food was delicious and even pleased the pickiest foodie in our family, my mother! We were able to move a few of the tables around to put in a dessert table and a balloon arch. They served us coffee at the end of the night and it was a fantastic ending to our night! The servers walked around picking up plates and offering more drinks throughout the event. I went here for a late breakfast with a group of 5. We were seated quickly but there were long waits to order and to get the food. I think there was only one server for all tables at the time. The eggs were good, not overdone and the bacon was the perfect amount of crispy. The pancake was a bit tough and hard to cut into pieces but tasted fine. I went to Santa Fe Cafe a few years ago and we had a less than ideal encounter. Last weekend we went again and there was a total 360 in our experience. I'm not sure if this business changed ownership or what implementations were made, but we were all very impressed. We were met with a friendly greeting when we arrived, good service, amazing food, and appreciation upon leaving. This is definitely going to be a new breakfast tradition when we are in the area. If you want a recommendation, the Taos Breakfast Tacos were AMAZING! We also had a cinnamon roll to share as an appetiser to bring out before our meal and it was very good. Then they sat us next to the front windows when the restaurant was 90% empty. Came from a warm car so didn't notice how cold it was a first. Frozen by time we left. I was really hoping to find a new and great place to have breakfast regularly. I was heading to my usual restaurant, a block away, but I saw this place and decided to try it. When I arrived I was greeted and seated right away with a coffee to start off. My food came out after a bit but it was cold as if it had been sitting at the pick up window. I sent it back and got a new serving of a second round of cold food. Both times I got my food I had the following to say: the hash browns were bland, the scrambled eggs were too cold eat or enjoy, the bacon was also too cold to enjoy, but, the coffee was pretty good. Business picked up and I overheard the table next to me complain about the food being cold as well and they sent their order back, now I didn't feel so bad about sending my food back. All-in-all I have to stay that this was worth trying but I'm going to have to pass on coming back. The service was great but the food experience needs some work. read more

We came here looking for a new local breakfast place, the best part was the staff. My husband's grits were lumpy and wattery, and his eggs weren't cooked right. I got a benadict and the sauce was chalky. They did a great job of poaching the eggs, but the sauce was just not up to speed. I would have gotten coffee, but they didn't have real cream only packs of half and half at the table. I personally don't use those so I skipped on the coffee. I guess my quest will continue. On a side note, and this is just a personal thought, if you want to call yourself Santa Fe anything, you need to have at least one Green Chili thing on your menu, just an observation. read more

This was my third visit to Sante Fe Cafe. First time I had the french toast. Pretty good. Second time I had the cowboy omelet and a cinnamon roll. Both were fantastic. They were both so good I ordered the exact same thing the third time, which I didn't realize until after I started eating the cowboy omelet. I had the hollandaise held off. I'd rather get my calories from sweet pastries than from cream sauce on my eggs. The cowboy has a delicious cream cheese center, with spinach and onions and a solid amount of chopped up bacon. Next time I'll order my hashbrowns extra crispy. They were good just as they were though, don't get me wrong. The cinnamon roll was perfect. My buddy and I split it. First, it was only $3. Well worth it. Second, it was crunchy, yet soft. And there was plenty of cinnamon center. Oh man, do yourself a favor and order the cinnamon roll. The coffee was meh. It was nice that they gave you free coffee while you wait, but it wasn't much as far as coffee goes. It was about standard for free coffee. The coffee inside that I later paid for was the same coffee. It was uber watered down and light brown. I took a star off the rating because of the coffee. We showed up at 9 on a Saturday morning and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Nothing too long. The waitress was nice, firm and to the point. I asked her for recommendations and she answered very quickly, without even thinking about it, the chicken fried steak and eggs. I didn't want to hit my daily sodium allotment for the day at 10AM, so I went with the omelet instead. Many of the menu items are named after towns in New Mexico. It is Sante Fe Cafe, afterall. I had not been here in years but we were in the neighborhood and looking for a good breakfast spot so we decided to give it a shot. The decor has changed since I was last here, it's quaint and comfortable. We were seated promptly and coffee was on the table in a jiffy. Our food was excellent--I had the Cowboy Omelet and Mary had some bacon and eggs with biscuits and gravy (the Blacksmith). She volunteered that the bacon was great and all of my food was served hot and tasty. The check came to $24.20 plus tax and tip--do little cafes like this usually get $2.40 for a cup of joe? Next time in this area at breakfast time we'll be back in. If they can repeat this kind of experience, it could be a five-star joint. read more

So we're from out of town and trying to try a new restaurant for every meal, this one wasn't as great as some of the reviews say it is. The hostess that sat us didn't seem to wanna even be there, the waitress lacked any ounce of enthusiasm at all, the manager or whatever she was kept spastically checking every table as if she was nervous of the place being on the edge of shutting down and the girl in front that you take your ticket to couldn't seem to do anything besides stare at her phone. There was also one employee that told someone loudly enough to be heard across the restaurant to "take the F'ing french toast". The attitudes of the employees were awful. The food? Meh, I've made better at home. I can't remember exactly the item I ordered, but I had french toast and got a waffle on the side. The french toast was just regular cinnamon bread from the store with butter drenched on it, the waffle made me think of Eggo at first bite. The butter didn't even melt when I put it on the waffle. The bacon was like biting into microwaved bacon that had been reheated. Overall, if we're ever back in KC, we aren't coming here. read more

My husband and I seem to always end up at the same ol' breakfast/brunch joints (because we don't mess around when it comes to breakfast food), so we decided to branch out one morning. We've passed Santa Fe Café many times and figured we would finally try it out. The restaurant is actually bigger than I thought. When you walk in, there's a small area with a handful of tables, but they actually have a bigger dining area right next door that's not immediately visible because it's behind a wall partition. We were seated right away with our drink orders taken at the same time. I like when they do this, so we don't have to wait for drinks. However, they do give you a pitcher of ice water at the table, which is awesome because you can pour yourself a glass immediately, instead of having to wait for them to come bring you water. I am generally a thirsty person and can easily drink a whole pitcher (of water), and then some, during a meal. Sweet tea lovers, rejoice! They have it here. I ordered a sweet tea as I never miss out on a chance to sweet tea at a restaurant if they have it, since KC is unfortunately not southern enough geographically and figuratively. The server was friendly and attentive, but there were only 2 other parties dining in on this Monday morning (Federal holiday). It's likely a lot more hectic and lively during the weekend brunch times. As for food, I went for the Pony Express Breakfast Sandwich with sausage on a biscuit. To be frank, it was mediocre, which was a big disappointment. I could have spent less and prepared a much better sandwich at home. The sausage was dry and did not give a very nice mouthfeel because of it. The flavor was okay. The hash browns I ordered with it were CRISP. I'm not one for dogging crispy hash browns, but they were so crisp, that they tasted stale. Though there's the possibility that it was reheated leftovers. My husband got the Santa Fe Breakfast Combo with pancakes and sausage. He LOVES sausage, but he didn't eat his after one bite because of the same reason I mentioned previously. He also felt that hash browns were too stale and crispy. The only particular thing he enjoyed were the pancakes, and even then, it wasn't anything we couldn't have made at home. It's unfortunate that Santa Fe Cafe was such a letdown, as the number of breakfast/brunch places nearby are limited. I guess we'll have to keep searching for a regular spot.
