From the beginning, I made it very clear that I wanted 100% communication and no misunderstandings. The salesperson assured me the entire project (windows, gutters, shutters, etc.) would take about 2-3 months. I was aware I was paying above average, but I trusted their reputation. That turned out to be a mistake. The problems started right away. I assumed measurements were taken during the initial visit, but they weren't. I had to take time off work for another appointment, and the person they sent was in and out in about 20 minutes. After that, communication completely broke down. I had to repeatedly call just to get updates. Months went by with no clear timeline for installation. Every time I spoke to someone, I got a different answer. The office staff seemed completely disorganized, and emails were confusing or contradicted each other. Eventually, I spoke with managers, and even they admitted there were mistakes and miscommunication. But nothing was actually resolved. When installation finally happened, it was poorly handled. They sent only one person to install gutters, which was inefficient and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they somehow retained my payment information and charged me without my authorization, which is extremely concerning. At one point, a manager apologized but then started mentioning that if I canceled, I could be legally responsible. That is when I completely lost confidence. It felt more like a threat than an attempt to resolve the situation--especially considering they had not fulfilled their obligations despite receiving a large deposit. They later came out to take pictures and "check" the work, but it felt like they were trying to protect themselves rather than fix the issues. I have lost an unbelievable amount of time dealing with this--taking off work, making calls, and sending emails. To this day, I still have an issue with one of the windows. I reached out again and received a response that made no sense, and I still have no real answer. Also, their "lifetime warranty" is not even through them--it's through a third party, which was never clearly explained upfront. Overall, this has been an exhausting and frustrating experience. I strongly recommend being very cautious before choosing this company and considering other options. Look for the response towards any complaints they're completely generic. They don't even give at least any kind of explanation as to why of things occurred. I would take my business elsewhere. You're gonna get robbed. They're charge you an astronomical price for something that anybody else could've done much cheaper.

Keith could not have been nicer and was very apologetic with their delayed response to a few issues we had concerning the deck they had built for us. He immediately requested that a crew would be out this morning to address everything and the crew showed up and corrected everything and then some. Sometimes customer service is lacking in this country right now, but not with Smallwood Renovation if it isn't right they will do everything in their power to make it right. Hard to get a hold of but said he called and left voicemail. But I had no voicemail or calls in my call log when he was telling me he called. I've worked with many contractors. I never have been ripped off until this company. Huge headache. Terrible business person.

I recommend you get EVERYTHING in writing…read more There were things we were told when we were discussing the remodel that didn't happen and when we questioned it we were told it's not in the contract- so every little thing get it in the contract or it won't be done. The start date got pushed back at least 4 months- we lived out of boxes- while waiting for the cabinets to come in during this time there was no communication. We called and emails with little to no response trying to get updates. During the actual installation workers were dropped off and spoke no English and played loud music in the house. Several times we had to call them and have projects taken apart while my son taught them how to install it correctly. As the cabinets were installed it was noted that a cabinet was cracked- they installed it and we were told they ordered a new one- 5 months later and we are still waiting for that cabinet. Once completed it looked like a mess the cabinets were dirty with dust and fingerprints electrical outlets were all different colors and we were responsible for getting the walls painted- again not in the contract. They left black garbage bags on our lawn while the work was being done a few weeks- killing the grass- in the contract they said trash would be removed at completion but in my mind I thought a dumpster would be here like I've seen during neighbors remodels. The company they subcontracted the countertops to were professional and did a beautiful job- they were proud of their work and it showed. In the end I felt like they told us whatever they had to in order to get our business. I will say that they came out after to discuss the issues I had and they seemed to listen so hopefully in the future they don't have the same problems.

Insurance company assigned them to deal with some water damage from a leak. Should have done some…read moreresearch instead of accepting the assignment. First day they showed up without the right tools and equipment. So they left for 4 hours to go back to the office to get the equipment they needed. Then worked for a couple hours and left for another 90 minutes to get some water. They then tried to plug in 6 fans and 4 dehumidifiers into a single outlet and kept tripping the breaker. Instead of dealing with it they just kept resetting the breaker and then left for the day. I ended up having to use my own extensions cords to distribute the load from their equipment to stop the breakers from popping. Second day they showed up late and then left after about an hour to take care of an another emergency issue with someone else's home. Third day they came back and tried to clean up leave without finishing tearing out the all the damaged drywall. They claimed it was now dry so they didnt need to cut it out anymore. They said they would only remove wet drywall and if its dry then its not in their scope. The supervisor showed up and was all nice until we asked him to finish the job and then he got testy and refused to discuss finishing taking down the water damaged drywall since it still wasn't wet and kept telling us that it was normal for the crew to keep leaving without finishing the job. He kept arguing with us so we had to ask him to leave. The picture clearly shows the spot where all the water was pouring out from that they keep saying isn't wet anymore so they won't pull it down. Aboslute garbage company. Stay far far away from them.
