EXPERIENCE: I had decided to try taking an early morning direct flight out of LGA with an overnight stay the night before, at same total expense as departure day indirect flight from Connecticut's Bradley airport. I took trains to reach the hotel, which added time, but avoided parking fees and traffic. I appreciated the low cost of the hotel and service, but all the more the ability to be situated in a location surrounded by authentic Asian (mostly Chinese) restaurants at far lower prices than Manhattan. I enjoyed exploring two, and made note of others in the future. I could see spending a weekend here with husband just for the Chinese restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores! Breakfast is included and served in a glass enclosed dining room. Although Western options are offered, I appreciated the Congee with traditional toppings and a variety of filled steamed buns as part of the Asiatic Hotel experience. In the end this was a far more fun and flexible experience than taking a longer and potentially winter weather-impacted indirect flight to my destination. TIPS: Check out Hey Tea for Asian beverages and Nan Xiang for soup dumplings. I have bookmarked Chong Qing Lao Zao for hot pot on my next visit. This hotel does not offer a shuttle to LGA, but is a quick and cheap pick up and drive to LGA.

There might have also been coffee at times. Not for free is a Pantry offering snacks, cereal, drinks, frozen treats, and a few helpful options. In our room, we found plenty of towels, and a spare toilet paper roll. It was roomy both in the bathroom and in the bedroom. After our time here I saw a video by theholdernessfamily mentioning hotel bathrooms with barn doors that don't close tightly. I didn't realize that was a thing. But it proved true here! Also, clear glass shower doors which make it impossible to share the bathroom with a pal or non-spouse family member while someone is showering. Located one level below the lobby, their pool is open till 9pm, with a lifeguard! The water was quite warm. The stupid is that the light in their locker room is motion detecting, but only in certain areas, so if you are in there solo and take a longer shower, you will find yourself showering in the dark. There is also no place to hang your clothes or towel while you shower, and no place to privately change clothing except in the same said shower. The fitness center is right next door to the pool. The bad is that airplanes fly over the area a lot, and you can hear them. The walls are also thin enough for us to hear a kid talking to their dad at 5:30am. Earplugs helped though, so bring some in case you need them.

Which sucks because I really wanted to love this hotel. I came for work and needed something close to garden city and the airport and this fit the bill being in between. When getting to the hotel I didn't move that the parking was separate. The parking workers were pretty rude and slow at their jobs so the valet experience was sort of bad but again I'm not sure if this was the hotel or not. The lobby was PACKED full of people who seemed to just be hanging out and not guests which was sort of weird. It also smelled very strongly of fish or sewage or something the first day... not sure what that was about. Did not notice it other days. Check-in was fast I di get put on a low floor which wasn't ideal but is what it is. Ac system is not great ngl. Idk what is wrong with the temperature system but you can't switch from heat to ac it's just "auto" and you set the temp but it does not cool at all. I felt so hot until I asked for a fan. I still didn't sleep great bc the ac didn't kick on. Never heard the fan even though I set it to high. This is an issue for me and I may not be able to stay here in warmer months due to this issue. Shower head barely works literally just drips onto you. I hate waterfall heads and have noticed that at a few Westin properties whatever waterfall heads this bran uses don't work well and half of the water holes just don't have water come out of them. I had to turn on the hand held at the same time in order to get water on me. Walls are paper thin. I couldn't hear a peep from the outside of the hotel but I could hear EVERY step in the hallway and every single word someone said from anywhere in the hallway even alllll the way at the other end. Which probably means everyone can hear you too. I like to watch tv late and felt paranoid I was going to keep other people up so I turned my volume super low as to not disturb others. In general, I was surrounded by VERY quiet travelers which was great but if you get unlucky and are on the floor with someone rude you WILL hear every word they say. Some of the worst noise control I have ever seen in a hotel. Now for the good things: Good service and I asked for a few items (fan, utensils, shaving kit) while I was here and they were all met in a timely manner. The room is GORGEOUS probably on of my favorite interiors in a hotel I've ever stayed in. I travel often so the aesthetic of the room is very important to me. The room felt very new trendy and the color palette was soothing modern and luxurious. I lovveee this room. The bathroom is similarly nice. Bed comforter and pillows felt new and super comfy. One of the best hotel beds. It felt like I was sleeping in a cloud. So comfy. Room was meticulously clean. Could connect my Nintendo switch to the tv lol. Tv was easy to use. Complimentary water (sort of the bare minimum but still good). Key card access on elevator which is a good safety feature. Getting food delivered to the hotel is very easy. They drop off downstairs at the desk and you just pickup yourself. Super simple. Overall there was a mix of good and bad the good being very good and the bad being more just minor inconveniences. Housekeeping carts blocked every portion of the walkway and my group and I literally had to pus Carts down the hallway in order to get to our rooms with our luggage. That's not cool. But Douglas is a wealth of knowledge and gives you all the information on discounts at restaurants. And the rooms are actually cute and comfortable. I had one roller blackout shade that didn't works so couldn't access me of the room brows. But it was okay as I had a 2nd window. I like their little joints to the airlines. It's cute; especially the Pan Am door symbols.

I show up around midnight just to be faced with an aggressive and unapologetic attitude from their attendant. Knowing they had no room rooms, they first tried to lie about not having a reservation for me. Then after confronted with paperwork, they proceeded to tell me to "f-off", "get out" and "do wherever I want". Advice is simple, stay away from this hellhole at all cost.
