This Regal location finally completed the upgrades to all the auditoriums - incorporating the newer recliner style seating. The upgrades were done in phases - so as to not shut down the entire theater. All seating is also "reserved" seating. The older RPX auditorium has been replaced with an IMAX auditorium - which includes support thankfully for IMAX 3D films. There is also a Screen X auditorium - which supports 270 degree projection, as well as Real 3D format films. The outside ticket sales windows are closed down and are a thing of the past. You can order your tickets online via the Regal App, or use the self service machines in the lobby, or purchase tickets at the Concessions counter. All of of the video games over in one corner have recently been removed. Not sure why - I guess they weren't utilized enough? At the Concessions - you can get all the normal movie theater snacks: Popcorn, hot dogs, pizza, chicken tenders, candy, ice cream, bottled water, sodas, cold beer, and more - plus a variety of accessories themed to current film offerings - such as popcorn buckets. The new seating is very nice - there is extra elbow room between seats - and you can actually get up out of your seat during a movie and not trip over your neighbor's feet as you exit your row. I signed up for the Regal Unlimited service - you pay a monthly fee - and then can see as many films as you like. However, there is a per ticket additional surcharge. For example, when making a ticket purchase in the app for a film in one of the regular auditoriums - there is a 50 cent surcharge. If the film is in IMAX, IMAX 3D, Screen X, or is a special event film from Fathom Entertainment (formerly Fathom Events) - the per film surcharge can be as high as $9.50. I am not a fan of this extra charge - I already agreed to pay Regal a monthly fee - and concessions are not inexpensive. #Regal read more

We've given this theater a couple of chances. Last year, we noticed a highly visible sheen on the screens. It's almost as if they painted it with a glossy, textured coat of glitter. It's very annoying and causes a high level of disruption to the picture. We tried again this year and the problem is still there. Movies are just unwatchable here. I'd advise avoiding this theater and the frustrating viewing experience it'll bring. The photos attached are zoomed in and where you see what looks like pixelation are not artifacts on the images themselves, but rather on the physical screen. This is what you can expect. read more

I've been to the theater multiple times and never had to show proof of ID for horror movies and when buying the tickets on the website, there was no disclaimer before the purchase that I needed to be with a guardian 21 and up if I wasn't 18. there was a very inconsiderate, worker who wouldn't let me through to see a movie. I'm very disappointed in this theater and the Regal corporation this was a huge letdown to me and my sister who wanted to see a movie one last time before she goes off to college. Way to ruin my night! read more

Regal Gainesville is okay. It's not bad (like Manassas) or filled with luxury loungers (like C-Ville Cinemark). It's fine. Tuesday is value day and tickets are ~$5.75. Seating is "theater" style, arm rests have cupholders and stay down, and there are no COVID distancing requirements as of January 2022 (another theater had a one seat minimum between parties, which I really like). Masks were NOT required. Lots of guests not wearing them while on line in concessions or social distancing. They had at least 4 lines at concessions on a Tuesday early evening. We waited in line about 10 minutes (5 minutes/party). I thought this was a little excessive, but beggars can't be choosers! Medium Popcorn is ~$8 and soda ~$5 and change. Plenty of seating available and ample parking. There are a few spots around within walking distance, so great for a date night. There's also a small "arcade" in case you have too much change in your purse weighing you down. read more

So when I posted my previous review I was waiting to speak to the managers to get my ticket refunded/get a voucher for for another movie. I explained the situation, explained that I had asked the kids at the ticket counter about the screens and while they couldn't guarantee they didn't think the auditorium that I was going into had one of the fuzzy screens. The managers were super cool and super understanding and they actually found another showing of the movie I wanted to see the next day on a better screen that didn't have the issue. They also told me that they had replacement screens that they were going to have up before July (they were told sometime in June and I know the irritation of waiting on corporate to do their job when I see it) If by July all the screens are replaced and the weird fuzzy screens are gone I will happily update this to a five star review but for now I will upgrade it to a 2 because of the awesome customer service which has absolutely improved over the past two years and the fact that at least everybody's aware of what it is and I don't feel like I'm being gaslit. read more

5/17/21 Haven been to the movie theaters in almost 2 years. I was excited to go see what movies were playing. Wraith Of Man, Spiral, Unholy and A Quiet Place got my attention. Unfortunately it would seem a lit of the movies start late in the evening and it is now 14:01 now. Tje doors to the building are also locked too. I don't plan on waiting to 16:00 0r 19:00 to watch a movie. I am sure price would escalate to $15.00 or so. Guess it will have to be another time at a closer movie theater to my house. read more

Lights were on during movie showing. Seats were sticky and uncomfortable. Def would not visit this establishment again. Escalated my experience to customer support and was given this response - Dear Sir/Madam Thank you for contacting our office. It is the responsibility of the staff to ensure the lights are off when the movie starts , I worked in a movie theater before, there is a person up top who's supposed to inspect the equipment/lighting when movie is cured to start. To be frank, I left the movie 30 minutes prior to ending because of how bad the seating condition was, I did not get to enjoy the movie at all. The seats were STICKY, The arm rests were STICKY. I simply wanted a refund for my tickets but that seems to be out of the question so I am leaving a review here. It is such a shame. The facilities are top notch. Only issue is service. One lane open before a movie. A manager did have another lane open and was helping someone. They needed a tray and he said I'll meet you in the other side. Never saw him again. He could have helped the line. This is very common at this theater. Lack of service. Nice staff and Reasonably priced concessions! however I tried getting a ticket for the regal premium experience. The chairs were small and worn out, the screen was not that impressive, and the chairs did not have the features that RPX described. I didn't really even find the clarity and color depth of the picture to be as good as I've seen other places. My tv at home has better Dolby vision accuracy. If this is what the world calls premium then theaters are dead. I feel like regal talked a bigger game with what the RPX was supposed to be but it just felt like another theater with a screen a bit less impressive than imax. Really confusing! read more

I went to drop my son and his girlfriend off to watch inside out 2 for the 6:40 PM showing they are both 16 and I was told I had to buy a ticket and remain in the theater with them. It was a new rule they have because the majority of troublemakers are 16-year-olds. I told him what if I told you they were 17. He said we would ID them. I said what if they didn't have any ID he said then they would turn them away. I told the manager there was nothing on the website that said anything about this rule. He said there were signs on the door. I said majority of people buy tickets online, I will never go to Regal Cinema ever again. They will go out of business with those kind of rules.. read more

What's not to like? A new theater, quick service to get you in. Don't let the full parking lot and long lines intimidate or dissuade you. They are efficient to get you moving through the line. You've got 14 different theater choices. The concession line...not so fast. On a Friday evening it was packed. We went to see Judge which was shown in a medium size theater. No reclining seats in th theater; the theater was cold (not enough heat); poor customer service at the ticket/concession counter. The young man who waited on us was not friendly, did not take our payment correctly, and did not direct us to the theater that we needed to go to. We wandered up and finally realized we were on the wrong side. The only plus was the theater and ladies' bathroom were clean. I will not be returning to this movie theater. read more

The ticket machines in the lobby were not working and it was 15 degrees outside. One person working to sell tickets and a decent sized line outside made for a very cold wait. After entering the theater, the ticket taker asked to search my wife's purse. We declined and returned her purse to the car. A business has absolutely no right to even ask to search a patron. I complained to the manager about both of these issues, but was not assured that they would be addressed. We plan to go elsewhere for our movies in the future and to let Regal know about our issues today. read more

Today the AC wasn't working. Hot as heck in there. I asked a manager & he said they can't control the thermostat. Two months I came with my sons & he spilled a drink near the arcade games. I asked an employee to help clean it up. 10 minutes later, no one had come to clean it up. I went back up to an employee because I was worried about someone slipping on it, he said "I'm too busy to help you with that" Do better Regal. read more

Although I'm quite content movie watching at home, the Super Hero flicks(I saw Thor-Ragnarok today) are theater designed. How was it? Action packed! Most often, Thor and The Hulk kick butt. New characters Valkyrie and Grandmaster played by actors Tessa Thompson and Jeff Goldblum were pretty cool. Best view: Center area. Seats are too small, I'm 125 pounds I don't think they should be tight for someone like me. Plus the tickets here are more expensive than manassas because of the RPX but I'm not seeing the benefits of that feature...However staff is nice so I wouldn't mind coming back for the service and it's close by. We came to the Virginia Gateway today to see a movie. We had purchased tickets online the day before and when we tried to retrieve our tickets using the credit card, the system wasn't able to find our reservation. We went to the information desk to see if they could help, and they were absolutely no help! They weren't able find our reservation either, using name, card number, phone number etc. We even showed them our bank statement showing that we'd been charged for the tickets. They told us there was nothing they could do and to call the corporate number for help. They made it seem like we were just trying to get a free movie out of them. Well we called the corporate number and they were able to find our tickets right away and gave us the confirmation number. We went back inside and gave the number to the guy at the info desk, and he goes "oh here they are!" Like we hadn't just spent 30 minutes dealing with this. No apology or nothing. Well too bad the movie had already started by the time we actually got the tickets. Needless to say, we asked for a refund and left. It will be a while before we go to this theatre again. We'd rather drive to Fairfax, they have reclining seats anyway. read more

I truly wish I didn't have to write this review. Decided to see the new Star Wars on Christmas Eve and my experience with the concession staffer guaranteed I will no longer screen films at this theater. This isn't an isolated occurrence by a long shot. It seems like every time I've come to this theater over the past two years, there's been some kind of an issue--from concession staff rudeness to ticket problems and no manager to be found. I understand wanting to be anywhere else on Christmas Eve, but taking it out on patrons via sighing, eye rolling, and a generally hostile tone was a bridge too far. I realize I'm one person and there are 20 others that can take my place in a heartbeat. Maybe they'll have a better experience or perhaps they'll care less about the customer service. Either way, I don't see why I shouldn't let my Regal Reward points expire and just stay home. read more

Went to the Indiana jones show 7/7/2023 in the regal premium experience theater and was forced to watch the movie with extremely high audio. The sound in the middle of the theater was very piercing and LOUD. After the previews I expected the sound to be normal, it was not any better. My phone app showed the sound running at 84 Db which is painful. As I asked two attendants to have it turned down, they said it will be better during the main show, which I explained had already started and had not improved. Showing them the sound readings did nothing to suggest to them that the volume needed adjustment. Stick a fork in them, they are toast and I dont want to go back; bad / LOUD audio, waiting in lines, understaffed help, shiny reflecting screens, and $6.50 for a medium lemonade that is not refillable. There is competition out there, vote with your feet!! read more

Great experience! Check out for tickets we're fast and simple which they have a electric stand. They have a decent amount of snacks to choose and the queue is fairly quick. They even have popcorn refills for free! Movie has good graphics and was enjoyable! read more

Slow and unhelpful. They only staffed 2 out of 10 registers for opening day of Avengers: Endgame and a prior Star Wars film resulting in 45-60 minute lines waiting for concessions. Staff is either rude or, at best, indifferent. I've asked for a manager before and was told "no one has seen him for a couple hours". Every other theater in the area is more dependable and all boast larger screens. This place isn't worth the trouble. read more

Very poorly managed. When I saw spider-verse 2, some teenage theatre hoppers kept coming in, shouting stuff during tense moments, leaving, and repeating the process every 15 minutes. Complained to staff, a manager came in and said something to them, and as she walked away they shouted "yes sir!" She stopped for a second and then left. When I asked to speak to a manager after we left (30 min before it ended cuz we couldn't take it anymore) the staff radioed for a manager but she never came. Combine that with long wait times for snacks and the screen sheen everyone is talking about, it's just not worth it when none of that exists at home. Oh and when you try to call and talk to someone no one answers. It's no surprise why theaters are tanking. read more

I am in the movie writing this. The picture quality is horrible, the $20 pop and popcorn were dry and flat tasting. The sound quality is the only thing that I can say is excellent. This is the most poorly managed theater I've ever been to. The lines to buy food are so long. They have multiple lines (vs the more efficient, one long line)! Thus most people wait in multiple lines to see which goes faster, causing even more confusion. On the positive side, the food is very good and the workers are extremely nice. But this place not run efficiently. They should hire more people, pay them well. They would make much more money in concessions, which is where their money is. read more

Incredibly disappointed with this place. Randomly decided to do a 10pm showing and since this was the closest place it's where we went purely out of convince. We usually go to the Cinemark (previously a Rave) in Centerville, where we have become a little spoiled with the large, amazing recliners. Additionally we usually go for the early bird showtime (the first showtime of any day) which runs for a great deal at $5.65 a ticket. They also have discount day on Tuesday where the tickets are the early bird price all day. The standard rates are $11.40. At this location which I realize is a Regal, other than gathering points via their rewards card there seem to be few other options in getting discounts on tickets. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Their matinee runs for $10 and a regular ticket is $12.50. Rather steep in my opinion. You would think the prices between these two places would be the opposite. In Centerville (which has entirely been remodeled now and isn't even recognizable) you are getting a great deal for incredibly comfortable seats. Here you are paying an arm and a leg for incredibly uncomfortable seats. I was appalled with how little leg room I felt I had, and arm space between seats. It felt so cramped it was almost claustrophobic and I'm not one to usually feel that way. I spent the entire movie repositioning, trying to get comfortable, but to no avail. At least the movie we chose was good. Oh and the popcorn was both stale and burnt. It was a bit better on the refill but only the top was fresh, not even half way down it was all stale again. NEVER AGAIN. Even if Centerville ups their prices it's worth it for the comfy seats and great popcorn that has never been stale or brunt and I usually go there once a week. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because the clearly swamped kids working there were very nice. They had only one person selling tickets and only one person inside selling and serving concessions, which as expected each had long lines. read more

This theater opening in gainesville is very helpful for everyone in the area. We no longer have to drive down to Manassas. There are self sevice kiosks and it takes a minute or two to get your tickets. You have the option to collect tickets, buy them or reserve them for a future date, which is cool! The theater is brand new has some pretty cool stuff including their RPX technology. RPX stands for Regal Permium Experience. Per their website, this is a 9.1 channel 100, 000 watt sound system :). We watched Thor today and I must say it was awesome!! The theater also has a couple of kiddy party room to host events, which is very cool. Hopefully they continue to maintain the quality of this place. read more
