I went in to visit in the afternoon, her breakfast tray was beside her bed, untouched, she was laying in a wet bed, almost unresponsive, incoherent. I asked them to send her to Providence, they said she just needed to drink more water. I called 911 and had her sent to Prov. The ER doc told the nurse to give her narcan, she immediately woke up. Please, do not send your loved one here.

I had two stints here and they were wildly different experiences…read more The first time through I somehow saw the same therapist every visit, and she was incredibly knowledgeable and very attentive and I saw a lot of improvement. It was peak PT. The second time through, every session was so packed full with patients that it was rare I received any dedicated attention at all. Eventually they just had a circuit of exercises I had to do on my own, or otherwise be stuck waiting until a therapist finished with another patient to tell me what to do next. I can't even imagine the logic in asking someone to pay for that complete lack of service. I ended my final stint early as one therapist in particular seemed frustrated that I wasn't making progress. Instead of adjusting the therapy, they just kept doing the same thing over and over. I eventually went to see another provider and after a stretch of therapy and medication, most of the issue has resolved.

My mother was diagnosed with a very rare bacterial infection. She had surgery that removed most of…read moreher heel bone to eradicate the infection. Her post op care required a wound vac and a facility that was equipped to change it out every 3 days. This facility came up as qualified for this specific care. They approved the care order. After being there for a week, my mother's wound vac hadn't been changed and when I called to find out what was going on , I was told Benito was the only one trained to switch it out and he didn't work weekends. Left early for an "emergency" This was a Friday night. It should have already been switched out by this point I called and made a fuss. This care is the difference between keeping or losing her leg. Benito came back in on his day off to do the required care we paid for. When he went to change the vac out he ripped the bandage off my mother's open wound and caused tremendous pain. So much so my mom too afraid to let the staff know when she was having any discomfort. After that incident they were cold and distant with her and rude with me when I visited. She came home before she was ready because we were both concerned about elderly abuse. I would like to think anyone in this profession would treat people the way they would want their parents to be treated. Amazingly after this incident , they had another nurse do wound vac changes. Today we received a $3000 bill after being told her stay was covered by insurance. No itemized charges. Just 3/1 and cost of service. From the facility.

However, I have learned that it is challenging to know what to expect, and find good resources, so I felt like leaving a review might at least be helpful to some... The location itself not on a busy street, the parking could use improvement, however, there is some in the back. I do think the staff here is efficient and they were very responsive to phone calls and questions and coming in for a tour. During the tour I was able to ask any questions that I wanted to, and was able to understand clearly Aryana's responses. The way that this location is set up, included a short term, hallway, and a long-term hallway, the cleanliness of the areas were pretty good, and the overall facility did show a movie area, and boardgame area. I don't expect any location to be perfect, I did see a lot of seemingly happy family members visiting there, family while passing through the hallways... There was one spot that smelt of urine, but perhaps that was being addressed. Overall, I think if you are looking for someplace that your family needs to stay at, this is a good spot to begin your tour, and see.

My Experience at Alderwood: A Journey from Frustration to Genuine Care…read more I recently stayed at Alderwood for rehab and was discharged not long ago. I want to share my honest experience -- the difficult parts, the turning point, and ultimately the reason I left with gratitude. During my first week, I was not thrilled with the care I received. I often felt overlooked. Some staff members -- not all -- seemed rushed, with little interaction or engagement. When I voiced concerns, I felt dismissed rather than heard. I repeatedly asked to speak with the person in charge of the nurses and aides, but she never came. I spoke with the social worker and the administrator, who reassured me they would address my concerns and send the nursing director. Still, she never appeared. My main concern at the time was how my legs were being wrapped. I wanted guidance, reassurance, and proper care. Then the inspectors arrived, and shortly after, I learned the director had been fired. This worried me even more -- if things weren't running well before, what would happen now? A few days later, a gentleman introduced himself as the nurse supervisor. At first, I didn't think much of it. He came in regularly, asking how I was doing and whether I had any issues with my care. I assumed he was just another staff member making rounds. But he kept coming back. He kept asking. And he genuinely listened. I even asked, is there a problem that's why you keep asking these questions? Slowly, I noticed a shift. The staff's attitude improved. They were more attentive, kinder, and more professional. I told him this directly -- that since he started checking in, the entire atmosphere felt different. He told me, the staff here are wonderful. They may just be under pressure but thank you, I will surely let them know. A few days before my discharge, I received a new roommate who struggled with yelling and screaming at night. I understood she couldn't help it, but it made resting and healing extremely difficult. I reported my concerns to management, including to a nurse named Tee, who said she would inform her supervisor. Honestly, I didn't expect anything to happen. My hope was low. I told them not to do anything about it, not even a grievance. I really wanted to just leave then but I physically cant. To my surprise, shortly after reporting the issue, the same gentleman walked in -- and this time he introduced himself as the Director of Nursing. I jokingly gave him an earful for not telling me sooner. His response is something I will never forget. He said: "My actions should speak for themselves. I want my residents to remember me not by name or title, but by how I made them feel." I cried -- tears of relief and gratitude. He apologized for my experience and for the rough night. He offered solutions immediately and even brought me earplugs. When I told him I was worried I wouldn't hear my alarm, he promised that a staff member would wake me up at exactly 7:00 AM -- "like you're in a hotel," he said. And he delivered. All my earlier frustrations were overshadowed by the sincerity, consistency, and compassion shown by the new Director of Nursing. His leadership changed the environment. The therapy team, nurses, and aides became more attentive, more present, and more caring. I left Alderwood feeling heard, supported, and respected. That is why I gave a 5‑star review -- not because everything was perfect from the start, but because the right person stepped in, listened, and transformed my experience. To Umesh social worker, the therapy team, nurses, and aides: thank you. To the Director of Nursing, Joe-mar your actions truly spoke louder than any title ever could. Mom's memory was declining, and she needed memory care. The first time I took a tour of Bonaventure I was highly impressed with the facility. Just walking through the front door gave a lift to my spirits in that I was greeted with a brightly lit, newly renovated looking facility. The dining rooms looked like elegant upper-level restaurant dining. I found out they have a "gourmet" chef on staff and after trying their food I would agree. All the staff - the administration, the nurses, and care aides - even the maintenance people - were all highly professional and personable. The facility was welcoming as well as the people who work there. Dulcie Chase, the admissions director, was very welcoming and pleasant; as was each of the receptionists and Dakota Bingham, the assistant executive director. They all give the impression that this is not just a business, it is a welcoming living space where residents are seen as people with feelings and needs. My mom, entering the end of her life with memory loss and dementia, had a couple weeks of adjustment she went through. After this adjustment period was over, she warmed up to the staff caring for her. I found the staff from the very beginning trying to make mom's stay as pleasant as possible, looking at all her needs, and responding to my requests. They truly cared for my mother up until the time of her passing. They were with her when she passed, which I really appreciated. The staff always welcomed my presence, visits, questions and suggestions. I did not have one negative experience with any of the staff. My wife's mother and father were also at Brookdale in Monroe until they could no longer give my father-in-law the level of care he required. We suggested Bonaventure and set it up for them to move. They were quite impressed with the facility, the food, and the care level offered to them. As of this writing my mother and father-in-law are residing there now. With my father-in-law's new and more intensive level of care, the staff is highly responsive to our calls and the Assisted Living Director, Lara, is easy to work with. I can tell Lara really cares about her job and the people she serves. My father-in-law is now getting the end-of-life level of care that he requires. I could not be happier with the facility and the staff who care for our elderly parents. I highly recommend Bonaventure.

The Owner is very kind and did as much as she could to be helpful in arranging for my Dad's care and medical needs. The RN and CNA's who work here follow medical and safety regulations more closely than the nursing home staff, so it was easy to trust that they would provide good care for my Dad. They even helped my Dad discontinue medications that should have been stopped by the nursing home doctor by helping me understand how to talk with my Dad's primary care physician about his medications. I wish I had moved my Dad out of the nursing home and into this Adult Family Home sooner, because he received better care all around.
