I was not expecting that which shows me just how thoughtful the owner is. Everyone talks about the business next door, but this place is slept on. The food is delicious, and you will have leftovers that make you want to come back for more. There isnt a single item on the menu that I don't recommend, from the jerk chicken to the curries to the beef patties to the plantains. And the service is impeccable. Because we went at a slower time, they were able to let us try samples of all of the different dishes, and we found out what we liked other than the jerk chicken (which is great but it's nice to have variety. I recommend coming here and trying the food because you won't be disappointed. read more

I can't believe I hadn't been here yet. This was literally the only place in this area I haven't had yet. I ordered the stewed chicken and it was giving everything it was supposed to have gave! The vibe was so right with the music, the food was perfect, the service was great. Reggae Hut is off Almeda right in the mix. The only thing this place is missing is hookah, I swear. Was visiting Houston and saw this listing on Yelp. Wanted some good Jamaican food and this was near Turkey Leg Hut. Got to order the Jerk Chicken, Brown Chicken, Ox Tails, and Plantains. Every item was on point and delicious. Meat was cooked perfectly and both meats fell off the bone. Seasoned perfectly. The staff was great and very helpful. I will definitely be back. LONG WAIT EVEN IF YOU CALL AHEAD. They forgot to pack my oxtails the 1st time! close to closing time I was heading home, so I had to drive 30 miles from cypress THE NEXT DAY to get my oxtails. They gave me 2 jerk wings plates by mistake instead of 1 plate, all orders come with 2 sides so I got rice and veggies, all spicy fresh and delicious! ..also plantains were great, (I got a large order which was only 9 chunks)...I ordered brown stew chicken and the oxtails were great once I went back for it the next day Tried potato salad it was good, I've had better. (They ran out of potato salad the first night before so that's why I got it the next day too, it was on my reciept and they swapped it for cabbage mix.) No charge for the trouble the next day. I got fruit punch too and left $8 tip, so my total was $61.45! Ouch. Oxtail $19.95! I got 3 big pieces mostly bone and fat. The meat is good when you find it, sauce is great too. Fruit Punch $3.75! Taste like a fruit smoothie drink...Everything else is decent prices. $12 and less. I'm a new customer, had a bad first impression, loved the food. Hated the drive, the wait, the cost and the parking is scarce. So no I wont spend money there again for a LONG time or maybe never again. My first time visiting Reggae Hut and my experience was awesome! I called in my order in advance. When I got there, I was greeted immediately and was told that my order would be right up. A few short minutes passed and my order was ready. They showed me my order prior to bagging it and asked if the food looked good and if it was correct (that was very nice of them); after getting home I received a call about an hour later from Reggae Hut thanking me for visiting and wanting to know if my food was good. I replied with "It was amazing, I will surely be coming back!!!" Ok now the food was AMAZING! The oxtails were super tender that they literally melted in my mouth! Full of flavor and just overall a great choice! So order them! You won't regret it! I had no idea about this place but a client had told me about it earlier in the day. I didn't realize that Reggae Hut was less than a block away from Houston's famous Turkey Leg Hut, but this isn't about them. I had to try the creole curry snapper. It had an amazing flavor. Watch out for those bones because this fish has plenty of them. This was a simple meal with a lot of rice and a vegetable medley on the side which was also prepared well. The gravy on top of the snapper had a little kick and the bell peppers and onions really set this dish apart. I cannot wait to be back to try something else before I have to leave Houston. Always looking for Caribbean food options and was happy to find this one. Tried another place recently which I thought was pretty good and this might be better. Lucked up on the first visit and got a parking space right in front of the door on an early Sat evening. I later saw more parking behind the building just in case. I dined in so I ordered, grabbed a seat (there's a dining area) and expected to wait forever. Was surprised when the food was ready in less than 15 minutes. I got the Curry Chicken with rice & peas, cabbage and coco bread. The chicken, that's mixed with potatoes, was so flavorful and I couldn't get enough of the sauce. However, it was quite salty. Even the potatoes were salty and it takes quite a bit of sodium to over salt a whole potato. Rice & peas were ok but nothing special - the curry sauce helped them out. The cabbage was good and I've never had it with corn but it worked. Also, the portion was hefty so I made 3 meals out of the one meal. I decided to try this restaurant out while I was in town because I heard good things. My mom is Jamaican so I can be pretty picky about Jamaican cuisine. I must say they were pretty good. I got the brown stew chicken, rice, and peas, with the potato salad. They give you a really good amount of food so you will definitely be full. I also got a beef patty and a Kola Champagne that was pretty good as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. I'll definitely come back to this spot when I return to Houston! The oxtails are soooo good! So let's start with they have street parking and parking behind the building. The street looks packed big thats usually the turkey leg hut right down the street. I would highly recommend parking in the back. You walk in and it's one of the order up front type of locations. They do take the food to your table so don't worry about getting up to grab it. We ordered the oxtails and they came out piping hot and so delicious! It was a very big portion of food the rice and peas were so good also. I've passed this place many times on the way home and wish that I had come in to try their food a lot sooner! They offer free parking in the back and you can park in the front everyday with the exception of 4-6pm, I actually saw a parking cop today so heed the signs! We ordered the oxtail, jerk chicken, and the beef pattie. If you've never had Jamaican food before, know that the beef pattie is not actually a patty but an empanada like pastry filled with meat. Theirs was perfectly crispy and the beef inside was perfectly seasoned. They also keep them warm up front so you get to eat it right away. I was a little scared of the jerk chicken at first because the menu has 3-4 hot chili peppers next to it but when I got it, it wasn't actually spicy to me at all. It was super moist and had a great smoky flavor. Definitely one of the better jerk chickens I've had! Oxtail was moist as well but the sauce it came with paled in comparison to the jerk chicken. Overall, I'll definitely be back for some more jerk chicken and their beef patties and I can't wait to give their seafood a try! read more

The food was excellent. I had Jerk shrimp and it was the best I've tasted in a long time. If you don't like a lot of heat one might need to request it without the 3 alarm spice. I can say now, to me, IT'S BETTER THAN COOL RUNNINGS. My oxtails were perfect, large and tender with the meat falling off the bone. The gravy was rich and plentiful. Literally the best oxtails I've had outside of east coast or on the island. And they had BEEF PATTIES at night! For people who really eat Jamaican, you know at night it's hit or miss. Win-Win-Win. Fantastic authentic Jamaican cuisine. Came here off the recommendation of a cousin who lives in the area and was NOT disappointed. As a New Yorker I can usually get great Jamaican fare fairly easily so I feel as though I know it pretty well. While it all tasted great, my only critique is that it's a bit pricey for what you get. Run by the folks behind the iconic Breakfast Club, Reggae Hut slings rib-sticking homestyle Jamaican comfort food. I was blown away by a recent takeout experience that opened my eyes to the complexity and range of Caribbean cooking. As unimaginative as it may be, I couldn't pass on the Jerk Chicken, which you need to eat piping hot to activate that saucy rub. While the chicken just a tiny bit dry (probably better in person), the flavor was a heady mix of serious fruity heat with earthy richness and bitter and sour notes. The skin was amazing. Even the rice and beans were phenomenal with a well-seasoned and zesty tang that lingers, mercifully offset by a relatively mild vegetable medley of cabbage, carrots, and squash. The Beef Patty was similarly bomb, like a chewy and soft turnover hiding a fatty and slightly sweet filling. Even a small order of thick plantains made an impression because they were fried juuust short of burning to allow the sugars to fully caramelize. Finally, the Curry Shrimp was hearty and flavorful, though probably our least favorite item. I think the goat would've been preferred for the funkier elements it brings to the table. Absolutely delicious! When the oxtail is literally falling off the bone with just a soft scrape of your fork, you know it's damn good. Plus, they weren't skimp with the lunch serving size. First time eating here. I was craving some island flavored food. I had the jerk chicken and it was seasoned well, spicy, and had good portions. Spice level from scale of 1-5 is a 3. Everything tasted good. Plantains were good. Drinks are separate and cost 3.75. I feel is high priced. I can't lie though that sweet tea was some of the best tea I've tasted. I'll start with the outstanding service. We were greeted the minute we walked through the door with a smile. She handed us a menu and we ordered at the counter and took a seat. The food came out piping hot and freshly made very shortly after. We got curry chicken (served with rice, peas and cabbage), a beef patty and a veggie patty with a side of lemonade. The portion size was huge and ALL of it was good, especially the curry chicken and cabbage. It was served as whole sections of meat and not cut chunks--which I really enjoyed. The patties were hot when they got to me, which was a surprise because it was the middle of the day and I usually get luke warm ones around that time from other places. The patties were also thicker than what I'm used to getting. The lemonade is homemade and is a but on the very sweet side but still refreshing. You can cut it with water or ice if it's too sweet.
