I was on a solo getaway in SLO to start a three month sabbatical and found Region on a Monday when my wine tasting rooms were closed. I really love the concept of being able to try different local wines. I also really liked that you had options between tastes, half glass and full glass. If you really love something? Bring the bottle home. Yes- while it's mostly self service on the wine, the young women working that afternoon including Sheera - were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Since I was solo , I just did a number of tastings and yes brought a bottle home. The vibe is modern but chill with nice music and bright open space that opens to the outside. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I will for sure come back. read more

We stumbled across Region while randomly wandering through Downtown SLO. I'm really glad we found this gem of a spot, because now I'm wondering why we don't have more wine tasting rooms with this kind of concept in SoCal! Region brings together wines from around 50 wineries across the Central California coastal region from Monterey to Paso Robles and more on tap, allowing guests to choose from different quantities of pours. It's basically a build-your-own personal wine tasting! Service was friendly and welcoming, with the employees proactive in explaining the set up, answering questions and even giving recommendations. My husband and I enjoyed Region so much we ended up coming twice during our trip and one of the workers was even kind enough to pour us a free tasting of their featured wine of the month. The ambiance is lovely here and it's easy to end up spending a long time here, as there's plenty of open-air seating with heat lamps for the outside when it cools down in the evening. If wine tasting is on your SLO itinerary, I'd definitely recommend making a stop here when you're in the area! read more

What a genius idea it is to have a venue with chill vibes where local winemakers can hold events and showcase their wines for the many of us avid wine-drinkers to enjoy. We had attended, "The French Mafia Takeover" event, hosted by Region in collaboration with L'Aventure, Clos Selène, and Benom. This event was a wine and food pairing prepared by Chef Ryan of Ox & Anchor (San Luis Obispo). Even though it was a small bite pairing, his food certainly packed next level umami! Too good! The staff at Region were all friendly and the host of each winery and vineyard were just superb! The interior is open and airy with inside/outside seating. Their staff helped guide me just enough and let me DIY a bit, too. Had fun chatting with them until the place filled up with other kind patrons. My cousins and I were looking for a place to chill and enjoy a glass of wine, and this place provided both. Mckenzie explained to us their wine dispensary and how it worked. We loved that we could chose to taste the wine and get a half or full glass of what we liked. The wines were reasonably priced, and you could see your running balance every time you were dispensed wine. We ordered chips with salsa/guacamole and French fries. Both were tasty. Love this concept!! Was my first time here with my partner and the employees explained how their tastings work with their card. You basically get a card that you insert into their machines that are connected to different types of wines and you can choose from a tasting size, glass pour or more I believe. And wine is poured on the spot and added to your card. It's a great way to be able to try different wines that you want! I truly appreciate the effort of the staff who initially assisted us; our immediate server was kind and engaged, which set a positive tone at the start. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not maintain that same level of attentiveness. As for the wine, it was disappointing. The selections we tried tasted flat and lacked the character we had expected from a winery experience. Given the reputation and potential of the establishment, this was disheartening. In the future sharper quality control is a must given that some wines lack of consistency. While I understand that service can ebb and flow on a busy day, consistency matters--every guest should feel equally welcomed and valued. With more attentiveness from the winemaker and greater follow-through from the staff, the experience could easily elevate to match the promise of the venue. First things first, the tasting room is such a vibe. So pretty. Loved the concept! Very fun way to try different wines. First timer here so the lady was very patient and helpful with giving our group a proper tutorial. Big selection of wines but defo more reds than whites. Parking garage right next to it, so very easy to get to. They are in the slo hotel building but aren't part of the slo hotel. They are their own business. I think they had specials though where you can order food from slo hotel restaurant piadina. But we opted for some cheeseboards and it was a lovely way to spend a few hours with friends. read more

However, Region makes you feel like you are visiting a friend's home and enjoying amazing varietals from the surrounding area. As a frequent wine taster I'm just not used to pay $4 to $6+ for a sip of wine. Usually I go to a winery and get free tastes to help me decide what I like and then buy half of a case or more. At other SLO wine bars, we also get free tastes to then decide which wines we like to then order glasses or even bottles. The glass prices were also very high for SLO County wines. I was familiar with many of the available wines since I am a member of those wineries. And often the prices of wines are higher at wineries than at retail establishments. Came here to have a drink before dinner and we're so glad we did! They are a new, modern wine bar. The staff are super friendly and happy! The wall is lined with taps of reds, whites, roses and champagnes. There are so many options to choose from and the screen above the tap describes the wine and tells you how much the bottle costs. The wall art explains that there are different subsections in Slo/Paso which I never knew. I'm so glad Slo added this to the downtown area. We had a very nice evening at Region. It's an attractive space with both indoor and outdoor options. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and engaged. We interacted with four different people and all were fun and personable. The automated wine distribution is an interesting idea. You leave a credit card at the host station and they give you a card to activate the automated wine dispensers. The serving come in three sizes: taste, half glass, and full glass. As another reviewer noted, it's unusual to pay $3-4 every time you get a taste of a wine. That reviewer also noted that the prices for a half glass and full glass were high. I'm visiting California and this is my first wine bar on this trip. The prices felt high to me too, but I don't know what competitors are charging. The charge per taste did limit the number of wines I tried. I understand why they wouldn't give free tastes, but there's probably a middle ground between current pricing and free. Also, the system doesn't really encourage drinking more than a glass when you're out with people because it felt strange to get up from the table whenever a glass was empty. We ordered a cheese plate that had good variety of foods, though I would have preferred less variety and more cheese and crackers. Overall a fine evening. Got to try some new wines in a comfortable space and enjoyed interacting with the staff. I'm not as sold on the automated distribution system, but it did enable a large number wines to be offered. I'd probably enjoy it more if I was alone, but the space was set up for groups. read more
