Very laid back atmosphere. Not a fancy place. Located across the street from the botanical garden…read more Food here is tasty and totally hits right. Ordered the big plate chicken that comes with homemade noodles. The chicken is flavorful and the noodles are the perfect accompaniment. Love the texture of the noodles. Nice and chewy. We loved the lamb skewers. Generous portion for $4.99. Tasted like quality meat with the perfect combo of lean and fat. The baked buns are actually meat pies baked with phyllo dough. I love phyllo dough and the filling was very tasty but would have preferred more filling as it washer dough heavy. I love milk tea so I had to order the Nurlan milk tea. Huge portion. Literally came in a bowl. Found it tasteless. Service here is friendly and fast.

Incredible Uyghur food not just for Flushing standards but for the entire city as a whole…read more Everything here is halal so that's a nice plus. Went with a group on a Thursday evening, and the place is fairly small with about 10 or so tables. There was only one server but since there was only one other occupied table, this wasn't an issue. Service was prompt and friendly and our server was willing to explain things to some in our group who weren't very familiar with Uyghur cuisine. The space also had nice vibes, clean with understated and tasteful decor on the walls. We had to get the special laghman because this spot is known for that, and you get the option of either lamb or beef. We ordered both varieties and they were both delicious. The meat was tender and they're loaded with fresh vegetables, with the mushrooms being a highlight. The sauce in particular was incredibly rich and savory and I was tempted to get an additional order of noodles on the side just to enjoy the sauce some more. It was that good. Others in our group ordered the stir fried noodles which I got to try; it wasn't saucy like the laghman but it was equally delicious. We also ordered the lamb dumplings, which was probably the weakest dish of the night. They weren't bad, and for $15 you get a large plate of them, meant to be shared or enjoyed as an entree. It's just that for the area you can get better dumplings for a cheaper price. I probably wouldn't order these again when I return, but the chili oil and black vinegar elevated them a bit. But the real highlight of the night had to be the lamb kebabs, spelled kawap here, served on skewers. They are $5 a pop, so they're not exactly cheap but they are worth every penny. Grilled and seasoned to perfection with tender meat, I genuinely think these are the best lamb kebabs I've had in the city, and I've had a lot from dining at many Middle Eastern restaurants. These blow them all away. If you visit, make sure to get one or two skewers for yourself along with your entree. Finally we had some milk tea, served in a bowl and not a cup like you might expect. It was rich, decadent, a little salty, and a great way to end a great meal. All in all, loved my experience here and I'm eager to go back.

Great food. Reasonable Prices. Service needs a little bit of improvement…read more Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Happened to be on Wednesday night. Place wasn't packed but there were some customers there. So the restaurant is not much for decor IMHO but has excellent food. Even on Wednesday night. Chuchvara, Lagman, Shurpa, Achik-Chuchuk, Various Kebabs, Beef Tongue, and most importantly Cheburek. The only dish that can go wrong like a puffer fish. Underdo it and it's inedible, overdo it the same, wrong oil or too much oil and your customers will run screaming for the hills. This was actually done so well we went for seconds, light and crispy on the outside and nice and juicy inside. I'm drooling just writing about it.... A great place to visit, service on the slow night could've been a little better but I can't really complain.

The food was so authentic and flavorful- we had lamb, beef and chicken mixed with all the dishes you might expect from potatoes eggs and vegetables. While the restaurant is located in a strip mall, you'd never know it. The ceiling is covered in cloth coverings that you know are authentic. The dance floor is so inviting-we spent the night between dancing and eating. The servers were fantastic. We look forward to our next visit

But the 2 stars is because everything menu has to be available to order and that was not the case at all! I ordered plov and salad, but I will need to return to try the tandoor bread, as many people came in just to purchase a loaf while I was in there and it seems to be their most popular offering. I've been to an Uzbek restaurant before, but there is some nuance to this one as it is a Bukharian restaurant, representing the cuisine of a population of Jewish Uzbeks who have settled in a high concentration here in this part of Rego Park. The salad was well seasoned and refreshing. Somehow the tomatoes were ripe and juicy even though it is the middle of the winter. It was the perfect complement to the plov. The plov was masterfully done. Each grain of rice was perfectly oiled and the sweetness from the carrots was well complimented by the aromatic cumin infused throughout the dish. It's studded with chickpeas which impart an additional richness. The meat was tender and well cooked. The soft, roasted whole garlic cloves were my favorite part of the dish. I paid $34 for the plov, which could have served two, the salad and a bottle of water, which feels reasonable.

We were a group of four and were seated at a large round table, which was perfect for sharing. We started with black tea, then ordered two salads to begin: the cabbage salad and the fresh salad (both in large sizes, which were well-portioned for our group). The cabbage salad was lightly pickled and very flavorful with oil, while the fresh salad was simpler but crisp and refreshing. For mains, we ordered two Lagman soups (large sizes, which were very filling and enough for leftovers), the Sherpa soup, one Samsa meat pie served with a red tomato sauce/broth, garlic fries, fried dumplings, and chicken and lamb skewers (two of each). Everything was flavorful, fresh, and came out quickly. Before tax and service fee, the total was under $100, which felt like excellent value for the amount and quality of food. We were all very full and still had plenty to take home. Staff was helpful and attentive, and overall it was a great dining experience. Would definitely recommend visiting.

Food: * The samsa was tasty, just like before. * The lagman has gotten much worse. * The borscht was completely underwhelming. * The chicken kebab was simply awful. * The lamb kebab has gone downhill a lot. * The beef kebab was okay, but nothing special. The bill and "service" charge: When I got the bill, there was an automatic 20% "service" charge included. I assumed it was a tip, so I asked the waitress. She told me it was a city tax, which sounded strange. I went to the counter to clarify, and they explained it was "for sitting here and eating." I asked again if it was a tip -- they said no, the staff doesn't get it. Our waitress was good, so I still left an extra tip on top, but this will probably be my last visit here. I don't like being misled -- either customers are being deceived, or the waitstaff isn't getting their tips. Photo attached. Be careful and always check your bill!

There are many other options in the area, but I have always come enjoyed this place, and now I treasure it more than ever before. The decor is a bit loud and gaudy for me personally. I always preferred the interior design of Taste of Samarkand or Art of Grill, but I'm okay with Stix's decor because it's bright and clean. More importantly, I love the food at this place. Every time I come here, it's absolutely fantastic. They shine at grilling skewers, so I'll start with that. You really can't go wrong, but I would always get the lamb, lamb ribs, beef, baby chicken, chicken w/ bones, and sea bass. The lola kebab and the chicken lola kebab are not bad, but definitely better at Art of Grill. For the more adventurous, try the veal sweet bread, veal liver, and lamb fat. The only kebabs I am not a big fan of here are the quail. As for appetizers, you have to get their flavorful Uzbek mantu. However, crispy cheburek and flaky samsa are both excellent too. Herring Garnish is very tasty as well. Moving onto salads, I typically order the Humus and Babaganush for dipping with the Tandoori Bread. Korean Carrot is also a nice starter. If you are fond of soup, then I highly recommend Osh-Potche. Lastly, Asian Pilaf is a nice way to end the meal when dining at an Uzbek restaurant, though I think their version is average. When all is said and done, every meal is always amazing. The cost of the meal is always reasonable. And a good time is always had by all every time.
