I've never been to any REI locations before. I came today knowing they should have a good bug spray for a trip to Thailand. I got in and out of there in five minutes. There was a lot of staff to help me out and the spray was only 8$ with tax, pretty good for the type of strength I needed. There's a big parking lot around back! read more

I'm not too crazy about this location. Very very minimum items or selections to choose from. I guess because we're in Cali. Where there's barely rain, they were short of having any rain gear. Ugh!!! I haven't been to this REI. It's a smaller REI compared to the other locations. I came here with my friend to stash on hiking hear for MT Whitney. The store was empty which is nice, ( no long lines) and plenty of parking. The staff is friendly and helpful and guide you through gear selection for what you need based on trips. There are plenty of deals and specials going on. If you're a member of REI you might get a free gift card in mail ( like I did ) I'm one satisfied customer! read more

I hike and am into tactical gear for various reasons. This was my first time at REI Arcadia. My wife needed hiking footwear, a real backpack and other accessories to make her hiking experience a more comfortable one. As soon as we walked in, boom!, REI staff were on scene to assist. We walked into the shoe section and were greeted by Louie who immediately started helping us. When he took a break, he passed the baton to Kim who gave us even more tips on how to purchase shoes for my wife. When we were done, Jeff helped us out and suited her up with a backpack (measurements, recommendations and an great attitude). She had an amazing experience and couldn't wait to come back for more gear. in fact, we returned the following day after a quick hike wither her new shoes/pack. It may be overwhelming for some who are not used to real customer service, but the staff seem to love their job and it shows when dealing with customers (new and experienced). read more

I've been in here more times than I can count and have spent quite a bit here but I don't regret it, at all. This store carries anything needed for pretty much any activity outdoors. I'm a runner, hiker, n backpacker and for my needs, it's been wonderful. I've always found their staff to be extremely patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. You'll also score good deals on their used gear sales held once every few months. It's open to members only (a whooping $20 for life!-so worth it). Less than the usual amount of floor space, or selection of bicycle components I'd expect at an REI store. They still do very much stand behind their merchandise, although prices have really crept up in the last couple of years. The once bountiful clearance racks seem to have atrophied... They also now seem to emphasize the high-end rather than having a distribution, especially in the shoe department. read more

REI is a good chain of camping, hiking, off to nature kinda place. They have a ton of stuff, clothes, gear, bicycles, etc... If you've been to one before, you know what to expect. REI is the best place to buy all of the outdoor gear you need. I have never been steered wrong by one of their employees. The bike guy at the Arcadia store gladly turned my son's bike into a balance bike by removing the chain and pedals (I'll have them put back on when he is ready for them). Been shopping at this REI for well over 10 years. Today's service experience was a great reminder on why people have such strong brand loyalty. I am REI member for years. Recently got into the store on Sat to look for lighting for my bike. One of the rep passing by and asked if I need help. I have already researched on REI web site and discovered the price tag on the same product is higher, so I asked him if they will sell the product for the online price. The rep kindly looked up the product from his handheld device and confirmed the online price is right. He assisted me all the way to the Bike area cashier and completed my purchase. I had a decent experience at this REI. I mostly come here for backpacking supplies, but I've also been helped with my MTB gear. There were a ton of employees asking if I needed help. I love this store even though it's a little expensive, but keep in mind that most hobbies require an investment. I'm rating this place 5 stars because the customer service was ridonkulous! I'll definitely spend more as long as the customer service is top notch - they definitely make it worth the extra buck. Thanks REI, give those employees an all around raise! read more

REI is the Nordstrom of outdoor equipment. I purchased a $90 Timex HRM a week ago, but then found a $100 Garmin HRM for 50% off at Best Buy the next day. I had asked about their return policy prior to my Timex purchase, and they said 100% satisfaction guarantee. Well, I took my Timex back to REI, told them I found a killer deal elsewhere, and sure enough, they took it back. Their prices might be a bit high, but they have a great return policy, friendly staff, and more knowledgeable reps than say Sport Chalet. read more

REI has great quality merchandise, like coming here for my hiking gear (boots, pants, the essentials). The customer service is average. I would have to track down people for assistance. When i finally got someone, he was rude and did not provide me with the correct information so I spoke to another employee who was much more knowledgable about the product I was about to purchase. Had to return some hiking boots that I had purchased a couple months ago....had worn them a few times ...but my feet were hurting so bad and have calluses from them as well as blisters...Took them in, and explained the situation....they sat me down and went and got a better wider shoe for me ...No questions asked...got some money back as well....So I put it towards a life time membership...Yes.....I scored...and had excellent customer service..Thank you all at REI in Arcadia read more

Really as good as it gets. I find the staff helpful and knowledgeable. Mike at the shoe department should be called the "shoe whisperer". I like to run and have purchased my running shoes at REI for now over 6 years. When I get Mike, he evaluates my foot. He consistently recommends shoes that addresses my foot issues. I typically like to buy (2) pairs at a time just because his recommendations are so good. If you are a hiker, runner or just looking for comfort shoes, have your feet looked at by Mike. He is not a podiatrist, but he mentioned his experience with working with royal horses and studied their anatomy and their footing. That experience has served him well with recommending shoes for people. REI Is not cheap, but it is so worth whatever you buy from there. The quality is good. Their return policy is good too. It used to be you can return whenever, but now they have limited their returns to a year which is still pretty good. Also it is so worth shopping at their used gear sale. Tons of stuff and usually gently used, but the prices are slashed way below what their retail prices were. Lastly I'd like to mention their games. They are not just for camping. If you're ever in the area and need some help with pretty much anything in the store, look for Jim (red haired guy with a scruffy beard) you'll usually find him in the shoe department but this guy knows his stuff. Great fella, considerate and understands budgets without compromising quality recommendations. Genuine guy who is there to help and get you what you need. I came in to REI to purchase some orthotics for my athletic shoes. Instead of being left to find them on my own, I was assisted by not one, but two sales associates, Brooke and Julie. Both were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the product I wanted. While helping me try on various brands, I was given a quick course on how to properly choose and use them correctly. I was not used to such personal assistance. I walked out with a little more knowledge and renewed faith in customer assistance. There are places where it still happens. This is my favorite REI (perhaps a bit of bias because it's the first one I ever visited) and was my favorite store, period, when I lived in the area. It features ample parking, a large but oddy cozy-feeling size, and a great selection of the stuff I care about (women's travel clothes, Vibram FiveFingers, knives/multitools, and camping accessories). Most of the stuff is pricey, but the merchandise is from high quality brands and the store's return policy is the most forgiving I've ever seen. Considering what you get for a lifetime membership, the $20 signup fee is negligible. You won't find better customer service or more knowledgeable/passionate employees than at REI. read more

I went to the Arcadia store to purchase a pair of "KEEN Men's Targhee II" hiking shoes. The shoes in stock was different (worse) in the shape and quality than the one on display. As the toe area was much flatter, it wasn't appealing. The mash area near the toe was much narrower and poorly sewn. The sales lady brought in another pair and it's not any better. She also agreed my observation. Later, I had to purchase one from KeenFootWear.com. I hate to buy from online store after observing at a brick-and-mortar store, but I have no choice this time. I will still be a REI customer. I like to see REI focusing on quality control. read more

Nice staff-- terrible ASOLO products! Bought ASOLO hiking boots at Arcadia REI. They have minimal wear after ten years but ASOLO uses a cold polymer sandwich technique to bond sole to boot. Soles started to peel off first time they came in contact with snow, and by end of afternoon both soles were hanging off leather boot! Nice hike! Took boots back to REI and only offered 25% off next pair or $85 dollars to "re-bond." Spoke to corporate and they indicated they should back up sale for such a severe defect and were disappointed in 25% offer. They want to see boots and will offer another remedy. We'll see what happens. They do not stand by the products even in setting of manufacturing defect. Buy your shoes online-- you can get better advice from Amazon reviews! 15-yr member read more

What an awful experience I've had here. I'll start by saying the sales person Amanda made this experience awful right off the bat. I asked about how to tie my boots a bit better and the whole conversation became about how I need to get a membership so that I can return my boots. I didn't say anything about wanting boots, I'm asking about how to tie these but clearly I wasn't worth her commission. She then decided to leave us and let another person help which then they realized we weren't worth commission to them either and they later abandoned us. What a terrible store, I guess next time I'll have to bribe them with commission to get anything done. By the way, direct quote from Amanda "don't wear keens, they're made for wide foot people that are over weight, pushing over 240 pounds". Never heard that before, but hey maybe I'm wrong....
