Staff is friendly, but the layout of the store needs some work.. limited selection of gear and skiing equipment.. would like to see more selection of north face, spyder etc.. decor is outdated and need more discounts for long standing members.. read more

Danielle was so helpful and an angel helping me prepare for all the necessities I needed for my first camping trip. She actually worked on the island I was going to go camping at! These items are expensive but well worth it. She made sure I only got just as much as I needed. She also took out all these highly discounted clearance items for me to choose from (gloves, hat, etc.) bc she knew the island I"d visit would get very cold. Because I spent over $400 (very easy here with synthetic clothes costing b/w $45-$100 a piece), I became a REI member to get a % off and money back at the end each year, for the cost of $20, but you also get a $20 coupon to spend. I went cheap so I got all the REI made brands for clothes, and I don't love the cutting of the shirts which are kind of weird and constricting, I believe they're made for very skinny people. But the employees here are top-notch! read more

Our visit was 12/6/17. My fiancé and I went in for a package pickup and registry update. Every employee was kind, friendly, and helpful. Jeff spent over half an hour with us teaching us everything we needed to know about backpack sizing, fit, packing, brands, and more. He was very collaborative, respectful, patient, and super funny! Review from long-time co-op member/owner. REI is keeping up with good quality outdoor gear balancing demands of hard core fanatics who want best features and technology with what can sell to the rest of us in enough quantity to keep us weekend warriors and those with limited budgets happy. Even with member annual rebate this place can be expensive, and staff are not expert on everything in the store. Internet competition is likely hurting store sales, so I hope REI as a big box chain survives. For some products like bikes or water craft, specialty stores will have better selection and service, but prices may be less at REI, making it OK for many customers. Watch for sales to get the best deals and become a member if you are going to shop here more than a few times in your life. read more

I really want to like REI but lately I've had such mediocre experiences. Just recently my husband and I went to REI in search of hiking pole tips. My husband asked a rugged looking staff member and he very matter of factly said, "they're in the hiking section." ...um ok where is that? and then he just proceeded to point in the general direction. (Not very helpful). Later, I asked the same associate if they carried any Mammut hiking back packs. He said "We sure do!" and then proceeded to stare at me. So where are they? "They're online only." So actually, you don't sell them... Beardo then tried to sell me a super cheap REI back pack, telling me how Mammut back packs are expensive and really are made for climbers, not hikers. Um yeah, I know what I want so don't try to sell me your cheap crap. Seems like the staff is not really knowledgeable and would rather chat it up with their fellow employees then take the time to listen to their customers. I really want to support REI, but I find that by doing research and buying online I actually make better purchasing decisions. read more

What a mess at REI today. I thought I got sale shoes and after the long line they said nope but wouldn't check because they were to busy. I let know that it was signed as a sale. Their reply was yes it is very confusing sorry you were confused but . . . and just smiled at me. That was it. For the amount of money I spent I will not even bother to go here again. I can buy online for less stress. I will return and purchase online just because I am shocked at their customer service. read more

I had to exchange something I got as a gift, from someone who ordered the item online from a different state. Lets just say it was a complicated situation, and the sales staff totally understood and happily exchanged the item. While I was there I talked with a sale associate named Steve in the shoe department and he completely fitted me for boots. He was so helpful and went far beyond what a regular sales person would do to help a customer. I was between sizes and concerned about blisters and he had a confident answer for all of my questions. I went to the REI 'Garage Sale' held in the parking lot this morning. This was the second time I went to such event and they were a total waste of time and akin to being an insult to one's intelligence because most if not all the stuff for sale were used beat up junk selling for excessive prices! Old used worn out shoes for $68, a down jacket with a ripped open slit at the shoulder with the down feather falling out asking for $70, and many similarly overpriced items in bad conditions for sale! Who in his or her right mind would get sucked into buying these junk at these 'final', 'as is' and 'no return' prices? It is as if REI is trying to pull a fast one on ignorant or unaware consumers - the exact opposite of one of my favorite logos "Our Best Customers are the Educated Consumers" because they can distinguish good values versus ripoff. I guess REI has to resort to doing this and excessive pricing due to their lifetime return policy. They should take a lesson from the likes of Costco. read more

Just tried to check in but I'm too far away. Oh well. So anyway earlier today I was at my local REI in Rancho Cucamonga armed with my dividends check. I was looking for last years REI XT 85 Pack. Problem is they are pretty much non-existent in the stores or online anymore. One of the staff found me a large at the Arcadia store and put it in hold for me. I waited for traffic to die down and took a trip to Arcadia. I found the pack behind the customer service counter and asked for it. ENTER JEFF.....this guy knows EVERYTHING there is to know about gear. Jeff is a gear Demi-God!! Jeff measured my torso and determined that I am a medium or 18" torso. The small end of the large REI XT 85 Pack is 19". Jeff loaded me up with sand bags and a huge pillow. Jeff adjusted all of the straps and belts in hopes of making the pack fit me (while being interrupted by other customers and endless walkie talkie broadcasts) I walked around the store for about 20 minutes trying to get the weight to do its job. Upon returning to Jeff he found that +1" was working against me. Instead of making the sale Jeff advised me not to buy the pack. Jeff showed me this years version of the REI XT 85 Pack. I decided to wait and do some online research in hopes of finding a medium REI XT 85 Pack. I truly appreciate the time that Jeff took in educating me. I will return to this store and recommend others do the same. read more

Went 2 days ago to get new tires for my road bike. I was told that 700C x 32" would fit, so I bought them and paid the cycling department to have them install them. I just barely had time tonight to take my bike out for a ride, only to find out the that rear tire rubs on the fork! Really? I paid a tech in the cycling department to put the tire on, and he didn't catch that? Lame. read more

I love REI and shop here often. This isn't a particularly large store, but they have a fairly comprehensive selection and terrific sales. I've always found the employees to be helpful without being annoying. IOW, they mercifully leave you alone if you tell them you're browsing. read more

Beware of their "biggest sale of the year " and membership benefits: 1). 20% of on ONE item on FULL price item ONLY 2), Dividend only apply to FULL priced item. If you use the coupon and sale item, you WON'T get any dividend. 3). Before joining membership in order to apply for their credit card ($100 gift card): you will be denied (but you already paid for membership fee). On the other hand, the sales men I encountered were very helpful at Arcadia and Northridge store. read more

I've been an REI member for decades (they occasionally express surprise at my low membership number) and I still go here for emergency needs and for dehydrated food, but for most other things I go online or sometimes to Adventure 16. REI used to have more of an enthusiast vibe: there were lots of people around who hiked and backpacked and could offer advice. Now it's rather difficult to find people to ask questions of, and the prices aren't great. REI is terrific if you're about to leave on a trip and realize that you're out of fuel or need one more dehydrated meal, but I find the selection and quality of things online to be somewhat better. read more

this location is smaller, but way neater and well staffed. i was actually able to walk into a clean changing room, and try on my masses of arctic gear. it was also nicely organized so i didn't have to go digging for my size. also found more deals here than the bigger store in RC. read more

I got some great advise on gear and appreciate having a place where you can try stuff out and examine the quality/materials and talk to knowledgable people. I absolutely love all REIs but I ove the store. I've seen many of the employees there for 3-4 years, and they know their stuff! For example, their shoe department really takes the time to explain things and help you find the right fit--- AND, they encourage you to bring it back if it ends up not being the perfect fit after all. The store is always clean, well-stocked, and if by any chance there's something you can't find, they'd help you order it online for store pick-up later (or, if it's over $50 and you're a member I think shipping is free). Their exchange and return policy is so great. I returned a 3-year old camping chair that broke suddenly, and they completely understood and replaced it with a brand new one, no questions asked! Of course, I didn't have to have my receipt and they just looked up the record of purchase under the phone number the membership is under. I also go hiking a lot and used to go often wtih my super hyper golden retriever. Especially for dog gear I bought, I always made sure I bought them from REI because I always knew they'd help me if it didn't end up fitting her, or if she particularly didn't like some of the stuff. In addition to just the store/business side of things, REI Arcadia also sends out periodic emails about ongoing events, many of which are free or are volunteer opportunities to make a difference in the community (and have happily participated in them-- AND got cool REI sweat-wicking volunteer shirts for doing so)--- LOVE IT! I needed a pair of hiking boots for a trip to the Grand Canyon, I've never owned a pair of hiking boots and had no idea where to even start. Mike O from the shoe department was fantastic, even though they were super busy, he was very attentive. What impressed me the most was he was able to figure out my gait and other quirks so quickly and picked out a pair of boots that fit just right! I suffered no pain or blisters on my trip, thank you Mike! read more

I wanted to commend the young lady Nikki for going out of her way and taking the time to check with the store manager as to why I was not getting notifications of their sales and discount coupons, even though I am an REI member. Apparently, I was not signed up for their "gearmail." Nikki signed me up right there and then, and said they would let me take 20% off my over $200 pair of hiking boots, even though I had missed the sale! Sometimes the website is not accurate. I was looking for a particular bicycle tire and the REI website indicated this store had it in stock, so I drove over and look for the tire and they don't have it. What a waste of time and gas. I get my bike stuff from Sports Chalet now. Most of the stuff REI sells is quality, not cheap. read more

This place is fabulous! I purchased VFF from them almost a year ago and as of last week the shoes started to fall apart. Prior to them falling apart I also bought their membership card which acts as an extended warranty and runs about $20...I think. Well long story short I brought the shoes in contemplating what I should say in order for them to refund my money or give me an an exchange. Little did I know there wasn't any need for that. I brought the old shoes to the front and explained that I was a member, the lady at the desk simply asked for my membership number and told me to go to the shoe dept. and pick out the ones I wanted to exchange the old shoes for! Done and done....as of right now I'm sporting new VFF....I love REI! read more

Let me start off by saying that this place is pricey! However, it's worth every penny. They used to have a rock wall that you could climb and it's kind of a shame that it's gone now. If you like going outdoors or doing anything outdoorsy, make you sure stop in and pick up everything you need! I placed an order online for pickup. It took a week for them to deliver from the east coast and once I got an email saying my order was ready for pickup I went in the store the very next day. I had to wait more than half hour for them to find my package in the backroom. I asked them to call me once they figure it out it since I did not want to wait anymore . The guy in the front was very rude and told me to wait a little bit more because it seems that he did not want to call me back. Well in the end, they couldn't find my package. The employees scrambled to search for a replacement and found my item from one of the racks in the back of the store. So whatever happened to my package? I guess it just went MIA. The employees working there think they are better than you with a know it all type of attitude, rude and not very helpful. Management needs to re-train their staffs on how to treat their customers right. Its REI ! so what its REI when customer service is not at par with the brand. read more
