We ordered the vanilla icing with sprinkles donuts, a hot chocolate and a hot tea. Total for the order was less then $9 which I thought was reasonable. Food Deets: Donuts came out hot and fresh a few minutes after. Hot chocolate was rather decent, definitely better then Swiss Miss. The hot tea was a choice between Earl Grey, English Breakfast and something else. It was nice that it wasn't the standard "Bigelow" brand that most places offer just to say they have tea. Seating Deets: They have 2 outdoor picnic tables just across from the ordering window. No cover whatsoever but it wasn't needed that night. Reigning Doughnuts is definitely a great place to stop especially if you like cake donuts! However my four stars is based on the fresh donuts that I ate fairly quickly after I got them. The donuts do not travel very well and after bringing them home a few hours later we did not eat any more... so I would not recommend buying a large amount with plans to eat them later, as they were just not that good after a few hours. The store front is very cute and you could easily miss it if you are not paying attention. There is just one window to order and has no actual store to go in to. Simple menu - some specials, but keepin' it simple is where it's at -especially in a cramp space. The window is very un-assuming and you can miss it, but usually there's a crowd of people enjoying doughnuts. Very light compared to the others, and the cinnamon was pretty neatly covering the entire donut. Taste-wise it was my favorite. Vanilla w/Sprinkles: 6/10. On the heavier side and pretty messy (not necessarily a bad thing). I thought it lacked some flavor compared to the two above. Still very good and would get again. Chocolate w/Sprinkles: 4/10. Did not care for this one. It was the heaviest of them all (granted, I like lighter donuts). It felt very cakey, and lacked flavor a bit as well. With that being said, they all tasted amazing and I encourage you to test them out for yourself! The customer service I received was top notch, especially for how busy it was around 9pm. I came when they first opened up and since then they have worked out a few kinks. If you like "cakey" or thicker doughnuts then this is your place. If you are more of a lighter doughnuts (like Krispy Kreme) you will be disappointed. These are thick and they fry them up right there so it's super fresh. The only thing is that the doughnuts are so greasy.. my stomach starts to hurt halfway through one, which is so unfortunate because they always do really cool and different flavor ideas. First time trying Reigning Donuts after hearing great reviews. I have to say that I'm disappointed. My husband and I stopped by to grab a few to go after having lunch in Noda. After almost 10 minutes, we finally got our 4 donuts to go. After getting into the car, our chocolate glazed donuts were stuffed into a small paper bag in which the glaze was then peeled off the donuts onto the bag. Plus, they forgot the sprinkles. Fortunately the donuts tasted well but was appalled at the packing. A company that specializes in one product should be thoughtful will all aspects of their product including packaging for small to large orders. Not be coming back. Parking in NoDa is always a nightmare but there are plenty of places in the neighborhoods to find spaces. I feel like Wreck it Ralph was walking out of Growlers one day, got mad, and punched a hole in the backside. A perfect place for a doughnut shop to move in, right? Two adorable green shutters are on either side of the order wall - your doughnut options are on the right, beverage selections on the left. They have their staples, but will always have a rotational doughnut. Our option? Peanut butter glaze with banana chips. We also got honey glazed and cinnamon sugar. All of them were ridiculously good - the base has a crunch to it but is soft on the inside. If I'm going to cheat on Krispy Kreme (the only true doughnut, fight me), it's with these guys. This is a grab and go-place, not a hang around and check out the merchandise place. It's as bare boned as you can get, and that's totally great. Just what NoDa needed! The news of this one somehow stayed under my Radar until I saw the Crepe Cellar's FB page welcoming them to the neighborhood. Just slightly off 35th St. and owned by the same team that has brought us NoDa staples such as Growler's, Crepe Cellar, and Haberdish, it incorporates perfectly into an existing classic NoDa Mill-era building. No inside seating, it's kinda like a window kiosk. They have excellent Coffee from Counter Culture that I hadn't tried until today and a darling creme & sugar stand next to the window. The doughnut menu is very simple, so execution is a must. Let's see how they fare... One Honey Glaze and a Vanilla with Sprinkles sounds like a good combo to test. First thing I noticed is that the doughnuts are a slightly darker than most places. One bite and I confirmed that the additional browning gave the doughnut a nice crispy exterior while maintaining a delicate body inside. The doughnut itself had a wholesome, slightly nutty profile, while the honey glaze gave it the perfect balance of sweetness that most places go overboard with. The vanilla icing also just wonderful. TL;DR - Great snack when strolling through Noda Food - 4/5 - The doughnuts here are created using one of those machines where you drop the batter in a hopper, the machine drops it into the oil and goes through what amounts to a mini-doughnut factory. They then take the completed doughnuts and add the flavorings/toppings. It's basically a mini-version of duck doughnuts. They had 7 different flavors and we got a dozen to try two of everything (except plain). The fresh out the window doughnuts are a 5/5. Lightly crispy, a bit eggy (in a good way), and strong, fresh flavor from the toppings. We had some leftovers, and they reheated just fine, but they're more "average" when not fresh. Value - 2/5 - The doughnuts are small, one or two is more of a "snack". Which is actually nice when you want to try a bunch of flavors. At $1.20/doughnut and $13/dozen, it's definitely pricey, but even an expensive doughnut is still cheap in relative terms. Decor - 3/5 - Colorful "store" front (it's really just a window) with a little shelf to stand at and collect your thoughts and shovel a few doughnuts into your mouth. Holy wow. This was my first time in Charlotte, but not my first time procuring donuts from a window. In fact, some of the best donuts I've had came popping out of a food truck or a tiny walkup. Because while cinnamon is typically my jam, that honey glaze knocked me over. RD, you can honey glaze me any time.
