They were cordial in working in masks in this trying time (and with us wearing them in our home as well to protect them). Removing the old furnace was a task in itself as it easily weighed OVER 500 lbs and had to be broken up in two pieces to get out of our basement! I had used DB prior to for our annual AC checks, but this is the first big time job and couldn't be happier. Great service all the way around.

Over a year ago we had our water tank burst in the middle of the night and at a recommendation of a friend we called Total Comfort. They were able to replace the best day. But, as a result I was duped into entering their preventative maintenance plan. This of course includes a yearly AC maintenance visit. It seems every time they come they find umpteen things wrong with the units and the cost for repairs are unsurprisingly astronomical. I went through this twice already with them. I immediately called a competitor following both visits and had them give a second opinion. Sure enough, I didn't need to do a vast majority of their "recommended" repairs. Never again with this company.

I spoke with Lou on Sunday and a technician was scheduled to arrive on Monday afternoon. After the scheduled visit, I checked in to see if the issue had be resolved by calling and leaving messages for both the technician and my tenant. Neither responded. On Tuesday, I called Lou Severino's office to confirm whether the technician had been to the property and if repairs were made. The receptionist asked how many times I had contacted them. I replied that I had called 5-6 times (over a few days). Lou immediately called back. To my surprise, he began yelling and shouting: "Don't you think we're busy enough?! For you to call 5 times today?! I'm an angry man today!! Aren't you being a pest??!!". He then hung up. I was shocked by the interaction. Regardless of how busy a company may be, there is no excuse for speaking to a customer with hostility or disrespect. Despite the initial recommendation, the experience was both unprofessional and unacceptable.

I left a message in hopes they would hear my urgency and call, but it was at 9am the next day. Needless to say, we are switching to a company that can provide service when we need it.

What is the point of being in a Service industry if your first line of service - communication - is so atrocious? I remember when Brett told me that it's hard to get back to customers in time because he had no receptionist back then and I had given you every benefit of the doubt. Now with an 800 number, multiple technicians, and a receptionist(s), what is the excuse now? And what is the point of receptionist if all they do is to tell me that "they left a message with the technicians, there's nothing more they can do"? I called last Saturday and spoke to a young lady who told me (when I asked her to look up my information) that she "has no access to any information (due to working from a different location a la COVID-19) and that all she can do is to leave a message with one of the technicians" Okay, understandable as long as someone calls back, I thought. Then on Monday an older lady did call back saying they got someone nearby and are trying to work something out so I happily told her to have the guy call me first so I can arrange with the tenant. No calls. I called again on Tuesday and Briana picked up (I think the same lady from Saturday) and I told her my frustration. She just said she can leave a message with them again. There was no apology, no 'Oh I see you called last week, we'll make sure to get back to you this time', no follow up, nothing. And of course, I didn't hear a squeak back from them. So now it's Thursday and I feel foolish for having tried to give Paramus Plumbing a chance to repair their own job. I understand it's AC season and everyone might be busy running around. But what is the point of voicemails and receptionists if you simply cannot be reached or even bother calling back if you're too busy? If they're busy with "big commercial jobs" like Brett told me about back then, then perhaps switch strategy and exit the residential business altogether. If they're still in it, they need to do better and call customers back whether they can or can't do the job. It's basic decency they can afford their customers. They do a good job though not without errors, but be prepared for atrocious communication if you choose Paramus plumbing & mechanical. I went with someone else who was so much more responsive and guess I'll see how good Brett's work was.

Tech comes, hangs out a while, says I need a new flue sensor AND a barnd new external condensate pump (with tubing) Repairs 1600 dollars. After I picked my jaw up from the floor, I asked the owner if my estimate could delineate parts vs labor. He then proceeds to double talk me about "there is alot more involved than parts and labor" umm wat? He continues on that he has to buy gas, pay for insurance, 401k, workmans comp, a warehouse. Basically giving me the "no man in the house hustle". I call a competitor, independent diagnosis of flue sensor, gets part (that was like 100 bucks) and I have hot water again. Concerned about the condensate pump Smith said I needed, I asked the honest repair man and he laughed because IT WASN'T EVEN A PART OF MY SYSTEM anymore and had been bypassed. So instead of 1600 dollars, I paid 500 dollars. I know that at the end of the day Smith would have restored my hot water, but he was absolutely taking advantage of me. As a single parent, every dollar counts and 1100 dollars is a big deal for us. He was absolutely ready to take food off my table. So in closing, the five star rating is probably because most people dont know their ass from their elbow and blindly trust that a company isnt out to soak you. This is your fair warning.
