Horrible. The way it's run, scheduling (canceling day before ), is it new management (?), grossly horrendous. Scheduled AC maintenance a month ago, specifically timed before I close (selling - what's the point if I'm no longer the owner). At 2:51pm, day before 8-12pm appt next day, I get a message they need to reschedule. They could only do day before my closing (too late), then promises me they'll call back. They don't. I had to call several times, then at one point "Brock" told me I've been rescheduled 3 days after my closing (?!?) and then finally tells me he can schedule me next day (miraculously) - basically got back my original appointment. To make long story short, after several calls day-of to get tighter window, dispatcher calls at 1pm to ask what exactly I need - it's maintenance! Like I already told Brock!! She then tells me nobody's coming - had me wait for over half a day. Unbelievable. And clearly, Brock put me back to my orig appt just to shut me up I guess. Because no maintenance for me. Nice job, people. If timing wasn't an issue, perhaps I could have rolled with this. Been a customer for close to 25 years! Never had this happen. NOT RECOMMENDED read more

We have been with them for a number of years but lately their service have become unreliable. We had an appointment a month ago which was missed and several rescheduled after my follow up calls. In February, I booked a semi-annual maintenance for my central A/C service. In May, the day before my scheduled service, they called to cancel the appointment saying they no longer do work in NY. Hard to believe. Pretty sure they were not honest with me, and certainly not trustworthy. Cannot recommend a service company that would do that to a customer. read more

I called for service regarding air conditioning not working. They said it couldn't be fixed; spent 45 minutes trying to sell a whole new system for $21,000. The next day, another service company came & fixed it in an hour for $1K. Called to discuss & had to leave a message with an AI bot & never got a call back. Waste of $125 service call. read more

Have used these guys for over 15 years for annual maintenance and replacement of some systems in the house. New ownership seems like it won't be the same unfortunately. They have now canceled two a/c maintenance appts day of and can only reschedule for 4 weeks from now. "call center" people are unhelpful and can only give you the day of the appointment, no time. Reasoning is "they have a lot of customers". Of course I prepaid for my annual maintenance this year so will stick with them for now but will be looking around for a potential new vendor especially because I will be replacing my a/c in the next year or so. These guys were always one of the most expensive but did excellent work and customer service was very good when calling in for service. Sad to see a such a great company start declining. read more

We have used Whalen & Ives for years and even used them after our move . This year they have been horrendous . They use AI to schedule spots that they don't show up for , they don't return calls . Today I was told my 8-12 window frame was 12-4 which I wouldn't have made then they never called back after multiple calls to them. Nobody showed of course . I have worked with this company for over 30 years and always got great service. This week I asked them to come to my home to fix a toilet (they now do plumbing too) and to look at a noisy pump on my humidifier. They were supposed to come Monday, but didn't show up and called late in the day to schedule for Tuesday. They came on Tuesday, installed a new humidifier pump and replaced a fill valve on my toilet. The charge for the pump was high, but not unusual. However, they charged $448 to install a $12 fill valve in my toilet that probably took 10 minutes to replace. I called them multiple times about this excessive charge and was told someone would get back to me. I also emailed them a couple of times with no response. It appears they are now owned by a Private Equity Company and not the owners I dealt with for many years which explains what is happening. Still waiting for a response. You may want to think twice about them doing work for you in the future. read more

Absolutely horrible experience with the new ownership! We've used them for almost 20 years but never will again. Our main HVAC unit was not working in January. Whalen & Ives said we needed a new one for $15K. We replaced it and it has never worked properly. At one point they said it needed a low profile pump and they had one in stock. They said they'd come back the next day to install it, but they didn't show up and didn't return our many calls. One month later they called and finally installed it. Two days ago was the first day we turned on the AC, and it didn't work--same problem as with the old unit they said needed replacing. They spent four hours "fixing" it yesterday but it immediately stopped working once again. No one is returning our calls and now there's an AI robot picking up at their call center. This unit will literally be out of warranty and it will not have worked a single day for us. read more

When it comes to anything anything in the home other than cooking I am literally at a loss and I rely on being able to find a trustworthy outfit who will fix install do whatever I need fairly quickly and with expertise. I called Scott and he sent someone over right away, started a claim with the manufacturer and fought to have the entire unit replaced not just the defective part that the company wanted to replace. I cannot express how happy I am with having a maintenance/service contract with Whalen & Ives. I have enjoyed years of spring and fall maintenance to keep my HVAC in good working order. The other day, one of my units was not working. I called for maintenance and explained that it was not an emergency since we had heat from another unit. They said someone would get to me that day. Within 2 hours they called 30 min prior and asked if they could come over. They were quick and clean and had the unit up in running in no time for a very reasonable cost. I am normally not one who writes reviews. I have been using Whalen and Ives for the over 18 years for my central AC annual maintenance. Late last summer we realized our unit was beginning to show more signs of its age and efficiency. Working with Scott, David and Tom we ID'ed the replacement unit during the Fall and had it installed this past week ahead of Spring /Summer. David 's Son David and colleague Kevin arrived promptly @ 8:00AM and were meticulous about laying new plastic on the carpet and / stairs to ensure no dust / debris would cause harm. Furthermore the day went as planned where both air handler and condenser were removed along with new units and the supporting foundations and overflow pans were replaced. All during this time both David and Kevin provided good counsel on usage and maintenance of the new units. These gentlemen like the owners, Sales and maintenance techs are a pleasure to work with ! RUDE! Can't get their act together for service calls. I called on a Tuesday for a THURSDAY a/c service call. I even called back again on Wednesday morning to confirm my service on THURSDAY because I was taking a half day off of work for this. Scott called and left a message WEDNESDAY afternoon saying he's sending a technician out for service - clearly the wrong day. Because I was working I didn't receive his call till after business hours, so I called the office back first thing Thursday morning. Office staff said they THINK they were still coming out but had no idea when. So I took off work and waited...and waited...and waited. I finally called around 4 and the office staff informed me that they still have no idea of when they were arriving, but if they arrive after 5 it's going to cost me MORE MONEY! What!?!? Scott finally called me at 4:45 with a complete rude attitude to say "we were going to come to you yesterday but you never called us back". I explained that he had the wrong day, that I had confirmed my service TWICE, and that I did not receive his call till after 6pm. He continued to give me attitude saying he wasn't coming out today and that "if I call you I expect you to return my call right away". Basically, he wasn't listening to what I was telling him, he never admitted to having the wrong day, and most importantly NEVER APOLOGIZED. Likely his reply to this will somehow make this my fault, which if he does then you should be even MORE leery of this company because you the reader have all the true facts. read more

Last year we had a malfunction for a boiler tank which Whalen & Ives replaced. Less than an year later, the same tank malfunctioned. We had an brand new AC that was completely installed by W&I. Less than a month later, it was not working. Most recently, we called them for a maintenance check and because our heating was not functioning. They charged us for a maintenance and did not address our concerns. They came back and charged us more money for fixing a problem we pointed out earlier. We are switching companies at this point. They have some young guys that come do some of the work, and I feel I don't trust the quality of work anymore. read more

BEWARE!!! The so called "expert" came to the house to figure and fix the AC problem. He immediately told me that my problem was that the battery on my thermostat was the issue. Really, would I call you for that!? Anyhow, we replaced the battery, that didn't fix the problem. He proceeded to go to the wiring -- and after an exhaustive 1.5 hours in my house, he told me that he could not fix the problem and for that --- the company charged me $323! Just to tell me that I had a problem. MY ADVISE, DO NOT USE THESE guys unless you get an estimate before ahead of time. I called another AC repair team, they too took about an hour, but never charged me diagnose the problem!!! Now I'm use the other guys to fix my AC and for that, they will be fully compensated. read more
