This may not be the place for you if you struggle with boundaries or are used to full-body treatments that include things like a scalp massage or comfort elements as part of the service. With the Relache Spa, everything is an "enhancement" and the technician is skilled enough to say it in a way that sounds more like a courtesy than an add-on. I scheduled my appointment with ZERO enhancements. For example, during my massage, the technician asked, "Would you like me to massage your scalp as well?" As a Black woman with various hairstyles, this is typically framed as a courtesy or optional comfort check--not an upsell--so I did not interpret this as an added charge. Similarly, during my scrub treatment, the technician mentioned how cold the room can get and said they sometimes place an eye mask on guests to help keep the body warm. In my very drowsy, sleep-deprived state, I assumed this was part of the service and meant to help--not another enhancement being added to my bill. I am glad to have Relache in the county as an option. It was very nice and comfortable, but in my opinion, it does not live up to the Gaylord brand. Most notable, the furniture is old, tattered, peeling and should be refaced or replaced. I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before going, because I might not have gone. I'm glad I went and would go back! Overall, it has my seal of approval for a middle of the road spa. They have a sauna, whirlpool, and steam room. I decided to try this spa out for my facial. It was a relaxing Sunday as I was the only one utilizing the amenities. I had the sauna and steam rooms to myself. This place is peaceful and relaxing. The only negative is the hot tub/whirlpool was out of service. My facial was decent, my only request would be not to use products that have strong scents. During the facial one of the products got into my eye and it started to burn. However, overall I have a great experience. I recommend. If you're not staying at the Gaylord, SKIP THIS SPA. Starting with the good, the reservation process was excellent. Booked everything online, received a text to complete 24 hours ahead of time. Confirmation call was pleasant. Also, national harbor is a great self care location. Unfortunately, that's the last positive thing I have to share. When I arrived, they told me the amenities close at 3pm so I wouldn't be able to use them after my services... which meant I wouldn't be able to use them at all. If you have an earlier appointment, good luck getting into the whirlpool the size of a plunge pool during peak hours. My massage therapist came to get me 20 minutes after my appointment time and yet we ended exactly on time... I'm not sure what math gets a 50 minute massage and a 30 minute detox done in less than 70 minutes. This was also one of the worst massages I've gotten. She put all the pressure on the bone and none on the muscle. During my detox wrap, I heard nothing but the faucet turning on and off and someone bumping into the wall in the room next door. The final straw... they validate parking if you ask but it's for $20 but if you're parked more than an hour it's $29. For the price of this place, these details should be figured out. Looks like they didn't do anything and they certainly didn't shape them. My massage therapist was Lee who was pleasant, perfect pressure and didn't play no games she got right to business. I got a haircut here and would not at all recommend. While the stylist was nice and did a good job, it ended up being $100 more expensive than anticipated. I went in expecting to pay $130, but was ultimately charged $155 with an additional $35 for "length and density" and then the service fee. I was not informed of these charges until I got the emailed receipt several hours later. It was not a nice facility, it was under construction, there was no one at the front desk so the appointment started late, and there was a weird smell. I feel scammed and will never be returning. The experience felt very rushed and the opposite of relaxing. I had one of the first appointments if the day and arrived 30 minutes early to allow enough time before the service. By the time customers were let in there was only a few minutes before the 10am appointment. The massage was extremely rushed and felt as though she was already behind schedule. The facial was geared a lot towards massaging my shoulders and neck with what felt like very little skincare. The skin care that was used was abrasive and left my skin feeling raw. Overall, I was disappointed with the services especially based on the pricing. I woke up the day after the appointment in a lot of pain and feeling worse than I had before the appointment. I had a 90 minute couples massage here for my birthday with my husband. Overall, the experience was meh. I was/am pregnant for this massage and asked for medium to firm pressure as I was not there for relaxation but mostly for pain relief. The masseuse used extremely light pressure. Also, approximately 6 times the "spa music" which was playing during the massage abruptly stopped which disrupted the peace each time. Also, there was a loud noise banging on the outside of the building - I have no idea what that outside noise was so who knows if it was something they could control or not. The men's whirlpool was broken so my husband couldn't use it. Also, the furniture including the white chairs and ottomans have all seen better days. The leather was extremely cracked and the furniture looked very shabby which does not lend itself to a high end spa. The tea was hibiscus which is not pregnancy safe (would love a pregnancy safe option for your pregnant clients). Overall, I expected a much more luxe experience. read more

While booking the appointments on-line was effortless, the facility does not deliver on the promise of the relaxing, luxury spa experience the prices indicate you'll receive. Chairs in the lobby were inexpensive industrial chairs with cracked vinyl covering that had seen better days. Glaring lights, pop music, and an environment more akin to a low-quality nail salon in a strip mall awaits just beyond the lobby. I have been fortunate to enjoy the rejuvenation of great spas. Unfortunately, the Relache Spa & Salon at the Gaylord did not, and cannot, provide a luxury spa experience. To do so would require a significant capital investment and a nearly complete turnover of the staff, starting with the spa management who clearly does not understand what it takes to deliver a luxury spa experience. read more

The spa is plush and nice. There are lots of expensive treatments but you can get a day pass ($35 for hotel guests, $40 for non-guests). They have a sauna, steam room, whirlpool and a quiet room. You could hang in a plush robe and escape for a day. There are discounted couples treatments. If you check the web site, you can find coupons and seasonal promotions. I booked a blow out in advance of a banquet. While the stylist was very nice, I'm not sure she'd ever given a blowout before! She didn't position me toward the mirror, so I had no idea what she was doing. It just didn't feel right. She barely sectioned my hair and dried it in large areas. I don't even know if she used a round brush! When she finished, my hair looked worse than when I went in-and I hadn't washed it that morning! It was not sleek and smooth-rather it was frizzy! I had to go back to my room and wash and style it all over. Not sure what product she used, but my hair was really dry. Please do not book this spa for even a simple blow out. When we arrived, we were taken to separate massage rooms, which I found odd. You come to a spa to relax or because you need a service done. In my case- the reason I went to Relache was that I wanted my hair done for a party I had to go to that night. The salon and spa are lovely, decorated in black and white with the check in area and spa on one side and the salon on the other. Book early as they have limited hours (11-7) and things fill up quickly. I called and got an appointment at 12 thinking I would have plenty of time for a wash and blow dry before my meeting started at 1:30. Not so. The stylist came out to the waiting area to tell me she was running behind and I should probably reschedule. Okay. Strike one. No party hair for me as they had no appointments available later in the day. I re booked for the next day (another day, another party, what can I say?) This time things went much smoother. I was taken in on time, and was shampooed, fluffed, buffed and sprayed all within about 30 minutes. My hair was perfect and it almost made up for my experience the day before. That was before I got the bill. Blowouts (for those of you who don't know) are usually priced for the length of your hair. My hair is on the shorter side (above my shoulders) so it usually runs between $35 and $40 for a blow out. Here? $66 and it didn't include a tip for the stylist which added about $10! Definitely New York prices in a Maryland location! i subscribe to the the "gotcha" theory on this one. They know there is no where else to go around this area to get your hair done so they "gotcha". The quality of service offered here at the Gaylord spa has significantly decreased. I always go to the spa and decided to try the Gaylord again after a year of not going, huge mistake. Upon checking in the young lady told me that I could see myself to the back since I had been there before. I spent my first 15 minutes of my visit sitting through lockers to find the a robe and shoes that were my size. Spa visits are supposed to be relaxing and mine started off on a bad foot. None of the items that are usually filled on the countertops were in stock. I requested a hair tie and the young lady went and got one out and proceeded to put the rest in the cabinet instead of placing them out for other customers. I then proceeded to the women's relaxation lounge in which the trash can was broken and stuck open, showing all trash inside, again very untidy for such a pricey spa. I went to the restroom and the toilet paper was off the role and sitting on the side. The changing room had cleaning materials stored in it, again very off putting and not relaxing. Now on a positive note the day of I enjoyed my facial however the next day whiteheads began to reappear and my skin was back to its horrible condition. I also had red bruising and scaring from the aggressive extractions. After my facial the relaxation room in the back did not have any hot tea. Overall my visit my beyond disappointing. I spent $210 for a facial that not only wasn't very effective but most importantly experienced nothing relaxing about my visit. I truly would not recommend this spa to anyone. I would suggest splurging a bit more and trying the spa at the four seasons in Georgetown. Also, please note upon complaint to manager she offered me complementary access to amenities. In no way is that comparable to my money, time off from work, paid parking and travel spent to and from this facility. read more

My husband and I booked an 80 minute couples massage on July 31 for our 5 year anniversary. It was unfortunate that one of our masseuse got into a car accident the day of our appointment. The ladies at this place only informed us when we arrived and had to cut our appointment short by just allowing one person for a massage. Great and all sweaty from steam room. I got dressed and mentioned to payment checkout. The lady was apologetic and said it's been happening the last couple days and she'd call maintenance. Also said we are not running showers all day to get warm and walked to the back. Appeared as though that was the back desk clerk does to solve and she was irritated with that as a fix. Not the lady I paid who didn't mention service fee. I acted like everything was fine because of my anxiety, which skyrocketed once I left. Loved the pedicure and person who did it. Unfortunately any relaxation I had was ruined by the time I left and replaced with stress. Facility is not up to spa standard. Waiting lounge chairs were not comfortable and unwelcoming and chill spa sounds during service didn't cover up the Food Network blaring in manicure lounge. Over $200 for pedicure, seriously. The service I received was subpar, I was very disappointed after seeing how wonderful the facility looked. I got the feeling that no one wanted to be at work that day. The massage I received was okay, my husband's was not good at all. I booked a deep tissue massage for him, the technician told him she did not do deep tissue massages. At the front desk I questioned it and was told that the tech does do deep tissue, they don't know why she said that? I was given a small discount but, it did not make up for the poor massage. The massage time was also cut short because they started on us 10-15 min after the appointment time. We were there, but had to wait to be assisted, since the delay was not on our part we should have received the full massage time. At the end of the year, I schedule a spa treatment to decompress and kick off the New Year relaxed. This was a disappointing experience from the moment of booking until the day of the service. Worst experience ever. I was staying in the hotel for a relaxing weekend. I booked a massage. I wanted to have a spa "day" so asked about pricing for hair nails etc. when I got to the spa, they scolded me for being late. I wasn't late, just not 30 minutes early. I wasn't shown the lounge but instead rushed into a hair salon chair where I was left, in a chair for over an hour. No one ever asked me if I even wanted a coffee. At 195$ just for a color - Seriously?? After the color, the woman doing my hair added Morrocan oil products (the same thing I can get from CVS) and started to dry. No cut I asked? So she cut my hair hastily blew out my hair, hastily, and rushed me into the lounge (my first time seeing it). I then went into the worst massage I have ever had, followed by yet another scolding over my gel toe nail polish. After scraping the polish off and plopping my feel into hot water, I was again not offered any coffee water champagne, nothing. To top it all off when checking out, my hair had an additional 95 dollar fee added and I had a 25 dollar nail polish removal fee. Ummmm no - no way. So, the manager was called and after telling her about my experience, I felt like I was begging her to just let me leave. She kept me there for over 30 minutes, standing on my feet. What a joke. The woman who showed us around and maintained the guest area was very sweet and courteous. She gets an A! I did not do a service and instead chose the spa pass for sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. That was $35 and more up my alley than any of their overpriced services. Well to my disappointment after paying and changing...I find out that the jacuzzi is not working...no jets but you can sit in the tub. Uhm, no thanks...I can "sit" in my own hot bath tub at home for free! They said the sauna was working but I have never been in a lukewarm sauna?? All of my friends agreed that there was something wrong with it. The relaxatiom room was bright and echoing...not relaxing. No soft music or anything. The water machine was broken in the sauna area but they did have a pitcher of water - oh that was empty too :(. Water in the relaxation room was empty for a good 20 minutes too. We wanted to order champagne but were told they don't have it, but we can order wine from room service. We did this but the wine never came so they gave me a refund and apologized by bringing us 4 glasses of champagne ....wait, I thought you didn't have champagne?!! Nice gesture but you lied! What a nice treat! The coconut infused water was delicious. The staff very accommodating and the spa the sauna and whirlpool all lovely relaxation tools. They do give slippers, comfy robes and lockers. You can customize your package and after a nice hour long massage in a heated bed they serve champagne and snacks. read more

You have full access to the amenities and the lounge room is the best spot to look out onto the National Harbor and melt at the sight of the sunset.
