They no longer have the experience groomer they once had. (Michael retired I believe ) Now, this business is clearly over booking appointments and has poor management skills. I expressed my dog was nervous and I was assured she would be fine/next. I witnessed my dog placed in cage ( since I enter to back to use restroom) and she hadn't been started/ worked on 2 HOURS later ( I called and was told she was next ) After complaining and seeing a later appt/ bigger dog ( German shepherd) leaving before my dog I was told by receptionist the reason my dogged was SKIPPED was because 1. they had to deal with aggressive dog first and didn't realize this other dog was "first " and 2. They take several appt at the same time and then that " group" is serve on a first come first serve. Both the owner and the groomer explained in condescending manner that the wait times vary just like in the doctor office or at a hair appt. My dog was terrified because she was caged for two hours and then still had minimum of 45 mins left if I decided to continue service. Which I DID NOT choose for my dog to continue to wait under these crowded conditions. Meanwhile an 11am appt was departing at 350pm ( also a small breed dog ). Personally, I think that they are overbooking for the amount of groomers they have, they have no clue of time management and prioritize based on aggression of animals not appt. I went to drop the dog off and asked how much again? Again was told under $60. They said depends of how matted he was. My dog gets brushed every other day, so I didn't see problem. When I picked up my dog up I was told $110!!!! That's is almost 2x as much. Totally crazy!!! I felt super scammed.. It's a shame. Was actually looking forward to being able to walk to the groomers. I updated my review to 5 stars because it's well deserved... The owner Mike is very knowledgeable of pets and has come to know my dog very well. So when my dog was acting weird and had a grooming appointment I ask Mike for his option. He could tell right away she was acting different, and after grooming her (and checking her) he felt she had an infection and advised taking her to the vet. So I rushed to the vet, and sure enough she had an infection. So long story short, I am thankful to have someone grooming my furry baby (my dog) that looks out for her best interest and truly cares for her. I am no longer going to be doing business with this company I have been dealing with this company for nine years and I've always known the owner to be very rude and condescending but I am officially done with them because of the following. Being that I had my dogs for such a long time I have been going to this rumor for nine years in the beginning of my relationship with this company my father and sister would be in charge of dealing with the groomers because I was so young at one point during this time my dogs returned home with cut up bleeding ears and when I talked to the owner about it him and I ended up getting into an argument because he refused to take responsibility of their condition and consistently blamed it on us for not getting them groomed often and said That because they weren't groomed often when he groom them he cut their ears or cutting their ears is common when it comes to grooming them after they haven't been groomed frequently. My issue with that is not only was he rude and condescending on the phone call but he didn't even offer a solution to sending my babies home with bleeding ears. Years later this man is still very rude not only to me but also to my sister he consistently complains about the frequency of the dog grooming he consistently complains about the Fur on my dogs being too much or matted when they go for grooming. My issue with this is that we bring them for these particular reasons we bring them in to be groomed so the fact that he cannot only complain about their condition but also be very rude and condescending in his complaint is the reason why I will no longer bring my dogs to this company. He openly belittles the condition of my dogs in front of everyone in the facility when my dogs aren't even in bad condition when they go to him they are furry and they Matt it is normal which is why we take them for grooming. So for him the groomer to complain that he has work to do is no longer acceptable. And then the tone of the voice in which he has been speaking to paying and loyal customers is no longer acceptable. In conclusion if you want to be loyal and go to a company for years on end just to be miss treated by the owner and talk down to feel free to come to this company however I no longer well he's taking our money for nine years I think it's enough to move on. I used to LOVE this place. Michael & his wife Jennifer was running the place. Since they've left, this is my 1st visit w/new people. It would take 1 1/2 hrs at the most for a small dog. We had 10am appt and I'm STILL waiting (12:30pm). When I called at 12pm, I was told it would still take another hour. I'm very sad to see where they've become after Michael was SO GOOD. After picking her up @ 1PM AND paying $78 for a mediocre cut, on our way home I noticed BOTH her eyes were bloodshot RED! WTH? Will definitely find a new groomer! read more

I found a much better place locally. They do an ok job grooming, but they show poor customer service. First of all, they are not very pleasant to deal with attitude wise. Seem aggravated or something. Also, they automatically make you an appointment for a follow up, without telling you and then call you like where are you? The last time they did that, I was at work. I would never make an early afternoon appointment on a weekday. So I am like What???? Then the receptionist acts pissed off because you are not there. Cranky people, and I don't want my dog around negativity. If this is how they act when I am there, I am wondering how they are to my dog when I am not there. read more

We decided to try this place out because of the groupon offered for bathing and nail care and I can definitely say we will never come back. The owner was incredibly rude (evidenced in the way he responds to low reviews on Yelp.) We walked in while the receptionist was calling us to tell us my dog would be ready in about 20 minutes; we informed her that we were the people she was calling, we knew we were a bit early, and that we had no problem waiting in the store for him (my dog). The owner comes out and rudely remarks, "We were calling to tell you your dog will be ready in 30 minutes but you would've known that if you had listened to the message!" There was absolutely no reason to make that comment. He then comes out with my dog 5 minutes later and says, "here's your precious baby" in a sarcastic tone and leaves. I see a few people on here giving one star reviews because of problems with their groupons, but the truth is that those things are very specific and you really do have to read the fine print. I've been taking my dog here for a couple of years now and I really feel like they do a good job. My dog has a bit of an attitude problem and will snap at strangers but I have seen the handlers here pick her up without a problem. Maybe because they were just confident in doing it? I don't know. We always get a short haircut, nail trim, etc. Her fur has always come out evenly and she smells great for a few weeks after. The staff is also very nice. I have two dogs and I take one for the works and the other just for a nail trim and they let me leave them both to keep each other company even though the nail trim was done in five minutes. My only complaint is that they do book up on the weekends and so you will have to call for an appointment a few weeks in advance. read more

I took my toy poodle to Reliable Grooming for a puppy cut. The grooming was quick, under 45 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't examine my dog before leaving and once I got her home and turned her onto her belly, i saw she had gouge marks from finger nails and a long scratch in the crease of her leg. She also had red marks in her ears and on her head where she was held very tightly. I have had my dog for seven years, she is groomed every six weeks and this is the only place that has injured her while grooming. In my opinion this is a disgusting facility that does not know how to treat animals. I should have payed attention to the prior reviewers, but decided to take my chances with horrendous results. If you are looking for a groomer who treats animals well, this is not the place. I think the owner has been doing this too long and no longer enjoys the animals, they are now a bother. If you do decide to take the chance and use this groomer, please examine your pet before you leave. Please note they fight to remove bad reviews and post fake 5 star reviews themselves. read more

We recently moved to the area and our Pomeranian needed a complete grooming. He's a very well-behaved pup, friendly with everyone. The cut was nice, but not what I asked for on the phone. I told them what I wanted prior to dropping him off and giving our info, but if it were what I'd wanted, it would have been okay. A few people said they liked how he looked better before the new look. They get one star for doing a good job of trimming the fur around his paws nicely, but they lose four stars because this is the third day after and my little guy is crying terribly from how they shaved him in the back area by his anus. I've had him groomed at three other places and two of the three times they shaved him in the back (a sanitary cut) without any problems. The other time, they cut it short with scissors. They shaved him so short, they left him with small cuts in his anal area, enough to leave him in extreme discomfort and crying. I have a cream to help with the healing now, but this is ridiculous. When I called them the next day, the girl on the phone was very dismissive , saying it's natural for dogs to be in discomfort. The second day I called and got another girl, who was more sympathetic, but still useless in suggestions or solutions. I had to suggest that they consult in these cuts in the future, especially for first time customers. She agreed, then put me on hold and I was disconnected. She called me back and said she thought I hung up. I told her I'd have to take him to a vet and she had no reply, only left off with awkarkly asking me to keep in touch with his status.... shouldn't they be calling me about this???? I saw the great review here and decided to take a chance. Maybe you'll have good luck with this place, but I would pay THEM to have my little guy back to where he was before this ordeal. Since this isn't possible, I can only warn others, and truthfully, I feel I'm being generous with just the one star because of this experience. $60 for the cut, $85 for the vet. Cost of getting my puppy back to normal from this= priceless. I'm not quick to complain about a business, especially in this economy, but after hearing this poor little guy in pain for days, I really feel I need to write this, especially because as groomers, they should know better in how to handle a situation like this, before of after a bad incident. Terrible experience!!!! I used to bring my dog here when they were located on top of the Crossbay Vet but stopped going because one time he didn't smell clean. I started going to Village Pet Spa which is awesome but a little out of the way and being that I only have the weekends free I figured I give reliable groomers another shot because I live in Howard Beach and it was convenient. I go in and there was a lovely friendly person behind the desk who told me Michael wasn't there but an older lady was there grooming. She came out and seemed pleasant and so I didn't mind leaving my dog. When I came in to pick him up his left ear was clipped and bleeding and his hair looked horrible!!!!! Not evenly cut, in fact it looked as if a child cut his hair. I was livid! My dog is 8 and has NEVER been through this!! . She then said that she would only charge me half price being that she cut him with the clippers. I told her that I wasn't paying for ANYTHING and that I was going straight to the vet and would bring back a bill if they saw something seriously wrong. I went to the Vet on Crossbay and they told me that adhesive was applied to the ear which wasn't a good thing being that it was an opened wound and to keep an eye on it. If in a couple of days the ear starts to crust to be sure to bring him back to the Vet. My dog is super irritated and keeps scratching his ear and complaining. Made appt to bring my cat here for bath & nail trim and grooming. Told me cat has to get sedated by the vet for $25. Made arrangements with the Howard beach animal hospital who were terrible. Obviously there is NO communication there. Said cat needed blood test then sedation for $50. Waited 1 hour. Asked if we could leave cat, vet and groomer both said no. Waited 1 hour in the vet then walked out. Awful, if you bring your cat here be prepared to waste your entire day. Called groomer they acted surprised and said I'm going to call down there no. My dog needed a haircut and my dad and I were in the area so we dropped off our Miniature Schnauzer at Reliable Grooming. First thing we noticed is that they have a lot of business because there is a veterinarian right next door. We had to wait two hours till they were done grooming him. It's a long time but when we picked him up, he looked very handsome. Miniature Schnauzers are hard to groom, and they did a perfect job on the schnauzer cut. I've been to other groomers and they do a bad job compared to Reliable Grooming. We keep going back to Reliable Grooming because they do an excellent job. His haircut costs $60. Not only did my dog look good, but he smelled great and smelled great for a long time. They sell the shampoo they use for $35 a bottle. read more

Where do I start? I've been going to Reliable Grooming for 10 years. The former owner, Michael and wife Jennifer, were the best. On an average day, we would get there at 10:00am and out by 11:30. My baby would be beautifully groomed, happy and playful. When Michael notified everyone he would be retiring, I was hopeful for the best, especially since it was a family member taking over and it was at the same location. The first time I took her under this "new" management, her appointment was for 10:30 and she was not finished until 3pm which was very upsetting for her and myself. In fact, I had to call and ask them when she would be ready and they asked me, "do you need her?" HUH???? This is my child not dry cleaning! They kept her locked in a cage and then used all of 10-15 minutes to groom her. She didn't look like she had a haircut, didn't smell good, no ribbons in her hair and seemed upset. I thought it was because of being away from me for so long, but I was so wrong. I still gave them a chance and took her back. (wish I would have followed my gut feelings) When I took her back the same thing happened, except this time she had diarrhea and blood coming from her rectum. She was shaky and nervous for days. I don't want to make false allegations, but my gut is telling me there is something unsafe going on. These people are over booking appointments, their not sensitive to their clients or pets and the service is absolutely horrible! I will NEVER go back there again! read more

This is a nice place the first time I went there to get my puppy's grooming they did a great job,and he smell wonderful, in 8 weeks was gizmo's next grooming he's a Tibetan spaniel, I said I'm coming back they did the grooming it was nice , I got in the car headed home I started to notice I don't smell any thing I said to my daughter he smell like he did when we brought him here like he needed a bath , got home I said he stinks, they didn't wash him I called they told me it was a light scent I Said no it a no scent he stinks you didn't wash him, all they offered was $5 off the next wash and grooming I paid $76 for a cut, only and they couldn't offer me to come back to wash him, for free after I paid for it , shame on them and they suppose to love dogs, I won't be goin back , ppl watch out and smell your dogs before you leave.
