Cori is fantastic! I came a year or two ago for a pixie cut, and today I came in for a shoulder-length piece-y cut ~ both came out wonderfully. Over the years, I've gone to salons that give great cuts, but can sometimes be a bit judgmental if I come in with hair that I dyed myself and it came out not-so-great, or a haircut I did myself that needs shaping up (ie the reason I came in today), but this has not been my experience here. Had an appt for Saturday at 5pm -- had to put a credit card down to reserve the time so if I was a no show they could charge me. Two days before appt I get a reminder email for Saturday at 5pm appt. I show up Saturday at 5pm -- driving 25 minutes to get there -- and the salon is closed. I called and left a message plus emailed as I was standing outside in the freezing weather -- no reply. I left messages and it's been a week without a return call or email to apologize or make things right so here's my 1 star review. I came here for a hair color appointment and the stylist said I could add toner at no charge. So I opted to it to - bad idea. She mentioned the toner would not darken my hair but refresh it and take the brass away. Well after everything was done my hair was black - jet black. The balayage I had before is now all gone and i will have to spend another $200 to fix the mess that's been created. It's so bad that my family thinks I just did a box hair at home and picked the wrong color. I'm too embarrassed to say I paid for it and went to a salon to get it!! Won't be coming back. read more

Oh my gosh, what an incredibly positive experience we had today at Relish Jr! Dexter cut our baby's hair - his first ever haircut - and he did it so gently, so thoughtfully, so well. I had an 11am haircut with Sarah. I vibed so well with her; she was timely, professional, and very nice. I loved the head massage and moroccan oil products she used on my hair. I wish I wasn't moving to a different state or else I would use her as my permanent haircut person. A little on the expensive side though; I was told it would be $55 for a haircut when I booked the appointment about 3 months ago but ended up paying $65 plus tip. I didn't say anything when I was checking out, because I truly enjoyed Sarah. They may also have increased their prices due to inflation. Parking was a little difficult to find. If Yelp ever needed a good example of its review filter working as intended they should look no farther than Relish. Wonder why the number of filtered reviews is almost double the amount of real ones? It's because they pay $5 to anyone who will write something. Yelp's Review Filter is so smart and good at sorting through the crap that it could tell something was amiss here. That's some Edward Snowden NSA sh*t! Concerns about shilling aside, I like coming here. I discovered it almost accidentally while I was visiting a friend who lives in Glenwood Park. He'd been hanging out for most of the day and he offered to treat me to a haircut. I agreed (who would turn that down?!), so he called Relish and they had two stylists available. We walked down and I somehow scored Cody and totally lucked out. Even though when he was done my hair was part bleach blonde and part brown (my fault, nothing to do with him), I still got compliments from a handful of people who saw me immediately afterward. That was two months ago. I came back over the weekend to see him again. This time I wanted all of the blonde cut out (I'd already colored it again) and he diligently worked to get it trimmed down. No clippers. All shears. In the end we kept a few blonde tips because it would have required me to go shorter than I wanted. It would have looked weird had Cody not used thinning shears to taper everything. I'm really happy and I'll probably go back next time. relish is a new salon, opening October 31st, 2009 in Loehmann's Plaza. The salon may be new, but its staff is fabulous and highly experienced. I can't express how excited I am that my wonderful stylist, Clay, is finally at the helm of a salon with his partners, Dexter and Erin. The extremely dashing Trevor is also a part of the relish team. Here is what I've Yelped about them in the past--I can guarantee that relish is going to be even better than they've ever been before: Clay, Dexter and Trevor are three of the best stylists in Atlanta. Clay is a color specialist and an amazingly talented and experienced stylist, Trevor a relatively new stylist who gives the best shampoo known to man (or woman), and Dexter a specialist in extensions and black women's hair. Clay and I have been together for a very long time, and I will follow him...follow him whereever he may go...there isn't an ocean too deeeeep...Ahem. Anyway, I send friends to him all the time, and while I really would like to keep him all to myself, he has enough talent to spread around. I just want to add for this extra special review... hopefully the last I'll have to write now that my Clay-chasing days are (hopefully) over... the main reason that I love him so much is that he really goes beyond the normal good stylist. He doesn't just have a great eye: he's realistic about the fact that I am not going to spend a lot of time on my hair or put crap in it, he is creative and helps me have a little personality within my professionally appropriate limits, he is COMPLETELY honest (if you want him to be) about his opinion regarding my hair, and he is always a delight to hang out with for an hour or so. Don't get me wrong--he'll give you what you ask for, but he has the professional and personal integrity to tell you if he think it's a mistake. He isn't afraid to break a few eggs to bake a cake. Relish just might be a neighborhood gem. My first experience was "fantastic"! Pros: great location that is easily accessible from I-20 or South/East Atlanta area. Spacious & inviting atmosphere. Great customer service that is respectful of your time. Comparable prices to other professional salons for cut & style. Kids cuts next door. Cons: Unknown at this visit. Parking COULD be(come) an issue during busy times in Glenwood Park and/or after future business development in the area. Dexter did a "fantastic" cut & style on my hair in less than an hour. He was timely, conversational & detailed in his work. I appreciate that Dexter shared info about himself, has positive energy & allowed natural flow of communication. He is quite knowledgable, demonstrates confidence & seems to have a sixth sense for client's needs in a short amount of time. I also witnessed Dexter educating an up & coming stylist with gentle but direct example & guidance, which I find impressive. I love the fact that this salon is closer to home values my time & provides high quality professional service(s) by personable stylists in a welcoming environment. Unbelievably happy with this experience. Money and time well spent. Positive Feedback: (1) From the second I walked in, I was filled with great vibes and smells. (2) There was very tasty coffee and a selection of teas to chose from in the seating area. (3) Dexter was my stylist and he was the friendliest, comfortable, most detailed stylist I've ever dealt with.(4) He used great shampoo products on my hair which is usually extremely dry and hard to deal with but came back to life after his magic. (5) He took the time to make perfections throughout the whole cut with true concentration while still being able to stay social with me. (5) The cut was great and the prices were priced less than I think they deserve. I'll definitely be coming back. Negative Feedback: (1) I felt bad when Dexter had to go to the back to get me cream. After perusing Yelp for a new salon (just moved to ATL), I found Relish and was very happy with my choice! I had a hair cut appointment with Sarah and she was really friendly, reasonably priced, and clearly skilled in the hair cutting arts. :) I have really thick, slightly curly/wavy hair and she managed to do some lovely layers to lighten the weight. Very happy! Parking is super easy since Glenwood has public parking spots right behind Relish, plus it has a lot of parallel street spots on the main drag. read more

So this is a review for Relish Jr. which is their kid's salon right next door. I was looking for a place to give my son a Mohawk cut for his 5th birthday. It was last minute and I wanted to find a reputable place. Relish Jr. came recommended from my DAMES facebook group (Thanks mamas!!). They only have certain days/hours for Relish Jr. which is fine. I called and spoke to one of the kindest and such an enthusiastic person. Seriously, I was excited about a mohawk cut and so was the person that I spoke to. They had two openings that evening at 5:30 and 6PM. Awesome! I hate when i am told that I need to wait weeks... This salon is located in Glenwood, which is an up and coming neighborhood just south of 20 not far from Grant Park. So, it may not be "that" close to Decatur, but the drive was only about 20 minutes even with it being rush hour. Glenwood reminds me a lot of Brookhaven. Anyways... Reina and Dexter were there to greet us when we arrived. Oh, did I mention.. FREE PARKING! This is a huge deal! The salon is great! They have toys for the kids to play with in the back like a train table, magnet table, dress up clothing. This is a nice change from some places that have toys for sale when you walk in. (I hate that!). Reina talked not only to me about what my expectations were, but she also spoke to my 5 year old which is great. She was able to give him the Mohawk he wanted while explaining to me what would work best with his hair type, but also taking my opinion seriously. She gave him an AMAZING cut! When she needed my son to sit still, Dexter did a great job at entertaining my son so he would not move. By the end of his cut, which took no more than 15 minutes, I feel like I made 2 new friends. My son was having so much fun playing too. Oh, they do birthday parties too with themes. Its so nice to find a refreshing place in the Grant Park area! Came in as a walk-in right at 12:00 and was seated for my cut right away. Had the pleasure of getting the best shampoo and massage by owner, Dexter, and of course an amazing cut. Showed him an inspiration picture and that was all it took! I came here on my wedding day with my bridesmaids and moms to get our hair styled before the ceremony and festivities. I could not have been happier with the staff, especially Dexter who did my hair! They allowed us to take over the couches and the fridge (to store the champagne) while we all rotated through the makeup (not provided by the Salon) and hair. Here's what I had to say about Clay when he was at his previous salon: It's all about Clay. I shouldn't even say this, because Clay is MINE and I don't want to have to fight you for an appointment. But Clay is really the man. I've been going to him for about five years now, and all I have to say is "Give me beach hair," "I'm ready for fall hair," or just "Make it look pretty," and he always knows exactly what to do. His color is so natural-looking and grows in very well so that I don't have to go back in for touch-ups for quite some time. Let's talk a little about my hair, shall we? After going from red to honey blonde to platinum blonde back to honey blonde and ... back to red (well I know now what hair color I love), my hair's pretty ravaged. Yes, I try to treat it well but you know you can't undo that damage. In addition to its damage, it's slightly wavy, and grows bottom heavy, which makes it a real beast to mold into a presentable style. After living in the Atlanta for 4-5 months, I decided that, "wow, I really need a haircut." This is a painful process - considering I don't have a lot of folks to turn to down here and ask, "who does your hair?"... so I took to Yelp. I came upon Relish and A. liked the quirky salon name and B. live near the salon, and I booked an appointment with Cody. He is so incredibly thorough - which I very much admire. So many times a stylist with clip off the ragged ends, use some texturizing shears and call it a day. He actually took the time to discuss my hair type with me and why it grows in such a way and created a cut that would work with my natural texture. A bonus? I hate blowdrying my hair (I cannot hold a round brush AND an object throwing hot air at me...) so he also told me how I could do my hair without heat. My appointment was a few days ago and I've been able to air dry my hair since - the shape is fantastic and I don't feel like I resemble Kurt Cobain's mop circa 1993. What's more is that I wasn't given the product push AND he told me I wouldn't have to return for about four months. Yes! Relish is a GREAT place to get your hair done. I've been Clay's client for many years and have followed him from Salon Red to Relish ( I know, a bit stalker-esque yet WELL worth his fabulous work!!) This salon has the best of both worlds - they are able to give clients beautiful classic looks and edgier dramatic cuts/colors. Either way, you walk out their door ready to bring on the hotness! This review is long overdue. JUSTIN is a wonderful stylist. He took time on my hair and listened to me and did exactly what I wanted. I haven't gotten my bangs cut in years because I've been waiting for them to grow out. Justin cut them just the way I wanted them and gave me helpful tips for my hair type. I didn't know someone who didn't have my hair could know so much about how to style it naturally! My main concern was how it would look air-dried, since I never (maybe once a month) blow dry my hair. I got my hair cut here recently by Trevor and it turned out well. I usually only get my hair cut in India or by Mary, my favorite hair stylist who works out of her home in Athens... Trevor is a really cool person and we had some great conversation. How often do you get a parttime stuntman and martial artist cutting your hair!? He also gave me a really nice shape and I trusted him since I had no idea what the hell I wanted. But I also never do anything drastic with my hair, so there's only so much he could have messed up. Overall, the place is really cute and the staff is even cuter. Everyone is friendly and the location is very convenient! He was the cheapest in the salon at $40.. I went to Relish Salon for two reasons: 1) Location, the salon is about 15 minutes from my house 2) They are open on Sunday (which is damn near impossible to find in this city). What I didn't realize was that it was going to be one of the most positive experiences I have had at a salon since moving to Atlanta 2.5 years ago. Marjorie was AMAZING! She did a wonderful job on my highlights and cut, she is a great conversationalist, and she was quick! I don't know about you but I don't like to spend 4 hours at a salon to get my hair done. I have very little personal time being a single mom and I'm happy to say I was out of there in a little over 2 hours. Not only that, but it was affordable. The salon offers plenty of parking, coffee or tea upon arrival, and the facility is clean and chic. I originally found Relish salon from a Groupon when they were in Loemann's plaza. I loved Cody's cut so much that I followed Relish to the new location near Grant Park. The atmosphere is wonderful - you know that you are at a salon with very talented stylists that certainly have "high end" talent without any of the "high end" attitude. This place is relaxed, comfortable, and not at all uptight or snooty like some other Atlanta area salons. I have had my hair cut here for over a year now (every three months) and each cut is FABULOUS. When I decided to donate 10 inches to Locks of Love, Cody gave me a great new style. Cody takes time to make sure the haircut is the right one for ME. He will give me feedback about what he thinks will work for me, but he also does what I ask. He explains every step of the process. His approach to hair is different than I have ever had, but I can say it is most certainly the BEST! Also - this salon is a Locks of Love Ambassador Salon which means - when I cut my hair for Locks of Love, they dried it and mailed it for me. Also, they explained to me that they cut wigs for people who receive wigs through Locks of Locks. The only con - pricey - worth it for me, though, because I only go every 3 months or so and I love the cut! read more

I called this salon on a Sunday. I'm not going to lie, I was desperate for something to be done to my hair, and nearly willing to pay anyone to do it. I called, after having called 5 other salons, with my sob story (of damaged, over processed hair, of life and identity crises and of desperation), a hope, and a prayer. I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE. The receptionist didn't make promises over the phone. In fact, she was hesitant to book me for a full session, but still eager to see that my needs were met. She was professional, knowledgeable, kind and patient. She booked me for a consultation and cut, saying that it would be the stylist who decided whether we could color my hair or not. I drove from Sandy Springs to this well decorated, corner-dwelling, fantastic salon. The receptionist knew it was me and greeted me by name (I guess my desperation read for miles!). The immediate atmosphere was welcoming, warm and non-judgmental. I was offered coffee, snacks and a smile. I met Freddy who was prepared and waiting for me. My hair was a wreck. It was over processed, damaged and poorly maintained due to my inability to afford the weekly glazing it would have taken to keep it up. Freddy didn't even flinch. There was no question as to whether we were going to achieve what I wanted today, but more of a question of how. He considered my hair a welcome challenge, and very expert hands spent 3 hours molding and crafting my mane into perfection. The staff was so warm, helpful, and inviting that there wasn't a single moment I felt uncomfortable. Everyone was working busily, and yet cheerful and upbeat as they did. It was something you rarely see in ANY customer service industry. They offered to go ABOVE AND BEYOND for me, from running to grab me lunch, to moving furniture around so I was comfortable. FREDDY WAS AMAZING. I'm so thankful that our schedules aligned. He was a master, both of his craft and of customer service. I entered the salon feeling very dull, unkempt and disheartened. Everytime I ask for a new style she finds a way to cut it that looks great when my hair is straight or in its natural curly state. I just enjoyed the best salon experience that I can remember. Toni my stylist, first asked the necessary questions to ascertain what I wanted in a haircut. Then she deftly began her cut moving nimbly through my hair with fingers and scissors. After about 30 seconds of watching her, I closed my eyes and relaxed. I was in the hands of artist. The experience at the shampoo bowl was equally nurturing and exhilarating. My scalp was caressed and massaged. She missed no pressure point as she shampooed my hair. I totally agree with Rebecca!! I have followed Clay from Salon Red (old location) to Salon Red (new location) to Ulta (blech!) back to Salon Red and now to Relish. Go in with a general idea of what you want and let Clay take it from there. He's a genuis with both color and style. I have no idea how he does it, but the shape and style grow out with your hair so even after weeks, it still looks fantastic, just a little longer. And he blends color so well that you don't have the dreaded roots-are-showing issue two weeks later. Clay will always have my hair, and my heart!! We didn't have an appointment but they still made time for us and the lady that cut my daughters hair did a great job and made her feel very at ease.
