Walked in for a haircut and was so lucky to get Denese. She was fabulous. I was able to communicate what I wanted done with my hair and she gave me the exact fresh new look I was hoping for. Disappointing. I came here because of a cut/color special for new customers. Have to say, I really liked the stylist I was paired with and had great conversation. He mentioned he was mainly a colorist, and he did a fabulous job in the color. No complaints there. But the haircut was not great. I asked for bangs (which I've had many times), and he seemed a little nervous cutting them. The haircut took a long time, and he tried to ask another person for help but she brushed it off. He ended up cutting them straight across in one quick snip and they were too short and had no fringe. I told the woman (presumably the owner) that I wasn't sure about the bangs (I was trying to be nice). She told me that "I got what I asked for". Ended up having to trim some of the bangs myself at home, because they were crooked. I don't blame the stylist at all, because he tried to ask for assistance and mentioned that he was really best at color. If you have someone like that, just have them do color. At the end of the day, I don't even think I got my new client special price. Based on my experience, I will be going back to my old Aveda salon. read more

They moved, remodeled and it's beautiful. I bring my daughters here, ages 4 & 8, for their regular haircuts and just love everything about this salon. Children's cuts are SO MUCH BETTER than anything you'll find at a "children's salon" and the girls love the sparkly chandeliers and crystal accents on the furniture. Just got my first bikini wax from renaissance and I'm sad to say I won't come back. Here is a little back story. I have been coming to the salon for about half a year just for eyebrow waxes from puja, they have always been wonderful and really well done! Sometimes she even throws in a little face massage. So I decided that she has been so great that I would cheat on my normal waxing place and try it here.. big mistake. I walk into the room to a dirty stained sheet and even dirtier stained towel. When your opening your legs and a very sensitive part of your body you want it to be as clean as possible! Then there was a miscommunication about what I would be having done, I wanted a Brazilian and walked away with a half assed bikini wax. My whole bikini like wasn't done and it's uneven. Puja maybe it was an off day for you, but unfortunately I won't be returning. Now to see if the waxing room on Halsted will forgive me. read more

Warning: do not get your hair colored by young Jasmine. I went in for low lights and highlights and first of all, she took 4 hours! Then she colored all my hair dark. Not some low lights, all my hair was the low lights color and the highlights did not lift to the color I asked for. The salon was busy so she did not get to check in end results. I was disgusted. I called and emailed to get it fixed and she said she would not highlight any more but I could come back in 1-2 months. What?! She suggested a hair cut. You've got to be kidding. I have been STUCK with this Witchy hair and trying to find other means to wash the color out. Her conversation is deceiving and hair skills lacking, clearly. read more

I've had my hair highlighted by several colorists over the past 20 years, and I finally found my person! Many colorists insist on using bleach in my hair, which destroys my texture over a couple sessions. I've had decent luck with a few people that used color, but still never exactly the color I was seeking. I told Zaina what I needed, and she gave me my perfect color without using bleach. I've waited a long time to write this, in the hopes that my awful haircut would grow out to look halfway decent. Unfortunately after 3 weeks of waiting for some sort of miracle grow situation, I'm still extremely disappointed. On the day of my appointment, I was forced to wait 50 minutes while I listened to the colorist complain about his client when she was out of earshot. Flash forward to meeting Jimmy. The stylist didn't ask my name or introduce himself; he just began to criticize my current look. I asked him for just a trim, and without consulting me for my opinion, Jimmy chopped off closer to 2 inches. While he was washing my hair, I had to smell some serious body odor. But I held my tongue and thought maybe he could redeem himself and style my hair well. It's 3 weeks later and people have now told me the truth. "It looks like a great clips haircut." "You look like Dorothy Hammil." Needless to say, I am never returning to this salon. Horrible service, awful haircut, and prices that are just unfair for what's being provided. read more

I totally recommend seeing Charlie for all of your hair needs! My hair was super long, plain, and boring before Charlie. I took a leap of faith and made an impulsive appointment to chop it all off, but Charlie really took the time to figure out what would work best for me. This is my favorite salon in Lincoln Square. I've had a fantastic experience at Renaissance for the past couple of years. I get the perfect color without bleaching my hair. They simply know how to do this really well, which is amazing and long lasting. I love my hair cut each and every time.
