This salon is my go to for getting my hair dyed! I have been going to Lela since 2019 and she is fantastic. I would not see anyone else. Even when I lived in the suburbs, I would make the trek down to Lakeview. The one time I did not see her and went to a salon in the suburbs, I had to come back to Lela to fix it -- I asked for a subtle blonde balayage and got streaky highlights that looked like a very cheap version of Jennifer Aniston's circa season 1. Lela went to work and fixed them, and I learned my lesson. She also does a good job protecting it when styling, which is extra appreciated since it's so fine. Also want to give a special shout out to Valentina, who I went to for a hair cut and conditioning treatment when Lela was booked and I need a cut desperately. She took her time making sure my hair was healthy and refreshed, and spent more time than I would expect on my blowout given low little hair I have -- which is a good thing! A lot of stylists would always fly through since there isn't much, and it wouldn't look good. My hair looked full and shiny after Valentina was done. Everyone at the salon is also very welcoming and friendly, so it has a great atmosphere even when you are waiting your turn. I recently tried this hair salon out and booked an appointment with Slavisha, he was amazing! I have very thick hair and he immediately knew what my concerns was with my hair (I wanted to continue growing it out, but I needed my ends trimmed, and he didn't want to create too many layers since it wasn't right for my hair texture and goals). Usually it takes a long time to blow out my hair but he was super efficient, he showed me how much he wanted to trim, and he styled my hair nicely and smooth. I loved my hair leaving the salon and made a next appointment to get a Keratin treatment done by him. The front desk person was very nice too and it was easy to book. Yesenia gave me not only the most complete haircut of my life (usually I go back home and start messing a bit w my bangs and such) but I came in with a choppy POS haircut I gave myself after going crazy and just chopping my split ends off haphazardly. She called it my little art project. But she fixed that mess up. How? I have no idea, the woman has a great set of eyes lol AND she gave me exactly the color I wanted. YELLOW. Real real yellow. I had a totally of 6 people tell me they loved my hair between the salon, whole foods, and the apartment I was staying 4 blocks away. Srsly, outside of the color, the cut is amazing. Came to get balayage after a couple months, and still received the same great care. Not sure what normal daily foot traffic is like, but they were definitely busy most of the hours today, Tuesday (suppose people are also prepping the hair for holiday season!). I believe they take walk-ins but I suggest you make an appointment. Everyone here seems great, and their clientele's leave happy, be it right away, or after feedback's been given and things needing a little tweak here and there. Regardless, as always, they care about you being satisfied. Consistency is really rare when it comes to salon experience, but they've got it! Yesenia always gets me in and gives me exactly what I'm looking for, even with my difficult schedule. She's a treasure.

I love a lot of things, but Ricci Kapricci and Lela are at the top of that list. I came to Lela after getting the worst balayage of my life down the block at a different salon, and she has fully saved my hair. Lela has color corrected my hair for months and I always leave her chair with the prettiest shade of brunette versus the orange highlights I walk in with. On top of that, she knows what will suit me better than I do myself. I trusted her whole heartedly chopping my hair despite being attached to my length and, of course, her cut was so good she convinced me I love my hair shorter and layered. Cannot recommend this salon and Lela specifically enough - forever my hair place in Chicago! read more

UPDATE: 1 month later, and I still haven't received a reply from the salon. I wouldn't go back to have them fix it even if they offered, but working in hospitality all my life has taught me to always put the customer first and they clearly used the comment as a CYA. Very disappointed that they didn't reach out. Customer Service 0/10. Hair Cut -1/10. Honestly, I'm not one to write bad reviews. I gave myself sometime to see if i could get used to the haircut that I got from Kristen. I went to her because, as you can probably read on here, she has the best reviews out of all the stylists. I realize that maybe if you are looking for a barber, she is the one to go to because the appointments surrounding mine were all that kind of haircut, so maybe I just assumed incorrectly. Nonetheless, I know how to describe my cuts because I often move around and have to get a new stylist every couple of years. I asked for face framing, short layers, with the base length shorter than what I currently had, but long enough to still pull back into a ponytail. I wanted my highest face-framed layer to be just above the top of my jaw line to create that Jennifer Aniston 90s hairstyle. I brought 6 pictures that showed varying hair colors with the cut that I wanted, apparently it still wasn't enough. I left with curtain bangs and long layers that were so jagged in the back, it's like I let my 3-year old niece cut my hair. I knew something was wrong when I was watching her cut but she wasn't measuring the length on both sides or watching what she was doing with the scissors. All I saw were the front pieces getting shorter and shorter (it's like that video that you can't get your cat-eyeliner to match and suddenly you look like a panda....that's what happened but with my hair) She was too busy telling me her life story of all the other salons she's been at (I'll spare the details out of respect to her because there was some stuff that she should not have told a first-time customer!) I got maybe three words in the whole time, but I honestly did not care about old coworkers or whether there was bad blood. You're at a new salon, have a great time, be happy you're not there! When I saw how short she was cutting the front pieces, I FELT BAD because I had to interrupt her life story and told her to stop because it was too short for me. She blew dried my hair and definitely knew she messed up because she said "next time we can go shorter on the layers, but it was a lot to cut off for your first time here, but look how cute your bangs look!!" as she's literally YANKING my front pieces as if the pulling would make them longer. How exactly is cutting 3 inches of hair off, "a lot to cut off"???? On top of that, I get up to go pay at the desk and they tried charging me $25 more than what a haircut was because someone said that I got my eyebrows done and/or grabbed shampoo off the shelf! WTF! I'm in the middle for studying for a huge test and my bangs keep falling in my face and it's literally the most annoying. thing. ever. I had to go out and buy barrettes that I haven't used since like 4th grade, and it makes me look so juvenile. I'm really bummed this place didn't work out, because it's so easy to get to from my apartment. Disappointed is an understatement. read more

I am from out of town and have been in Chicago taking care of my daughter who had surgery. I needed a haircut badly so I made an appointment. The salon is close by my daughter's house so I walked there. I was told to take a seat and the stylist would be right with me. She came and got me and I told her about my hair and she said for me to have a seat. Then she informed me that she didn't cut short hair. I was a little puzzled by this but she said it again. So to make a long story short I didn't get my hair cut because I do have short hair. I am almost 79 years old and in my life time I have never been told in a hair salon that a hair dresser did not cut short hair??? It would have been nice if someone asked me when I spoke with them over the phone. So if you have short hair make sure you tell someone before you make an appointment!!! read more

Been going to Silvio for a long time for all of my haircut needs, but decided I wanted to do a drastic change. Haven't dyed my hair in 13 years. Haven't bleached it in 20. Silvio got my hair THIS LIGHT (photos for reference) in one session! Not only did he pull off the drastic change I wanted, but my hair still feels soft and healthy afterwards. My first time going here and safe to say I was IMPRESSED!! The COVID safety precautions are outstanding! Masks required by staff and patrons, temp check when you come for your appointment, and dividers between each station. If you're looking to change up your hair but COVID has you worried, this is the place to do it! Now onto the best part, my stylist Yesenia! I walked in with a picture from Pinterest (as many of us do) and she did an amazing job. I've never been so happy with a haircut! She helped me figured out what would look best on me and was so friendly. Normally the small talk at salons is tiring, but she was so friendly and genuine. She will be my main for now on!
