#4 - BBQ Mix Plate Papaya Salad Fried Pork Cheek Small shareable Sticky Rice
    Kiana D.

Nook Kitchen Lao Soul Food -- 6/10 I'd give Nook Kitchen Lao Soul Food a 6/10 overall. The food was good and had a lot of flavor, but there were a few things that kept it from being a higher rating for me. We ordered the oxtail soup, which was okay. The broth was good and flavorful, but it wasn't my favorite dish of the meal. The papaya salad with four peppers was really good! It was pretty spicy, but also very flavorful. If you like your papaya salad spicy, this definitely had a good kick. We also ordered the BBQ mix plate with sticky rice, which came with Lao sausage, grilled chicken, and beef skewers. As a Lao person, I'm already familiar with Lao sausage, so I knew that was going to be good . The grilled chicken was okay, but I personally liked the beef skewers more. You could really taste the lemongrass, and they had a nice grilled flavor. The sticky rice was a smaller, shareable portion. I also got the Khao Piek Sen, which is a Lao chicken noodle soup with thick, chewy noodles. This was probably my favorite dish! The broth had a really nice chicken aroma, and you could taste all the herbs they used. It was flavorful and comforting without being too heavy. For the wait, they do have a waitlist, so once you pull into the parking lot, you can go inside and check in. When we went, it wasn't too busy and we waited around 20 minutes, which wasn't bad. One thing to know is that the kitchen closes around 2:30 PM and reopens later in the evening. Our server did let us know ahead of time that we needed to close out our tab before the kitchen closed, but we were still welcome to stay and finish eating. I completely understand why they do this, but having to pay before we were finished made the end of the meal feel a little rushed. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, and there were definitely some dishes I enjoyed. The Khao Piek Sen and papaya salad were my favorites, and I'm glad we gave the place a try. 6/10 for me.

food: finding good lao food in oc is quite difficult. THIS was such a good find. the portions r huge and everything was delicious. normally when places say their spice is spicy, it's not actually spicy. however here, PERFECT SPICE LEVELS. they mean it when they say it's spicy. service: our server was so sweet and patient. ambiance: good amount of seating. i will say there is no ac, so that mixed with the spice had my friends and i SWEATING

This place is super yummy with a great ambiance and service! Our server was super sweet and provided us lots of recommendations of delicious dishes. The texture of the chicken sticky rice dish is great and the flavors of the pork were so yummy! I definitely need to come back to try more of the menu!

Doc had eaten in and done take out orders before. We actually ate our lunch in the car driving south. Two more hours on the road before we reach our destination. Doc had Lao sausage plate and I had dried noodles with chicken.

My husband and I came here on a random Monday at 7:30pm and the place was bustling! I was craving sausage but Lao style (kinda hard to find here in the OC). We were met with the owner and his wife who were taking orders, and serving food, rushing all over the place to get orders. I can tell this seems like a small mom and pop establishment. I assumed it may take a while to be seated and have food bc it seemed that busy but we were seated quickly, ordered in a timely manner and the food even came out at the perfect time. Despite the rush, we were served on time and with respect We ordered the Lao sausage, ribeye laab (very spicy), roti, and the coconut juice. The plating is very authentic to Thai/Lao style which I loved. The food is 10/10. It's soo good we brought our parents here!! Because they were out of the coconut icecream, the owner gave us free Pandan mango sticky rice! This place reminds me of home. I am Hmong so a lot of Lao style food reminds me of Hmong food. I'm happy to find this place and will be coming here often!!!

I love Nok's when I want to eat Laos food that I'm too lazy to cook at home I can always count on the Larb Salmon, Papaya Salad (extra stinky), Lao Sausage, and sticky rice to hit the spot when I'm craving Laos food. This time around we didn't order much but I also love getting the crispy pork and the mango sticky rice here too when we have more people! Service is always nice and quick which I appreciate. Overall I always have a great experience eating at Nok's Kitchen.

I went here again, and the male server recognized me. He was so glad to see me again and I was too. I told him and another female server about my previous issue and he understood right away.

This was my first time at Nok's kitchen and I will definitely be back! (Closed on Mondays) I got the bbq mix plate, Khao Piak, papaya salad, and sticky rice. Everything was so good and spicy, which I love. One of the best papaya salads I've had out here in SoCal. Service was so quick and so attentive! The parking lot is a bit tight but the inside of the restaurant is spacious and has such cool decorations. Definitely check them out & I can't wait to go back!

I've been to many delicious restaurants...thankfully... I have also been to many restaurants that have great customer service But I have never been to a tasty restaurant where I've met my spirit animal. You may question this...but my spirit animal actually exists at Nok's Kitchen....Its Ricky! Know this... A friend took me to this restaurant on a Friday and the food was outstanding. I wanted to try it again because you know....results may vary. So I went back two days later to eat there again. I was expecting the same mediocre service we received on Friday, but no! We got Ricky! Not only did Ricky have grace and style, but embodied what I want from a server....a long lost friend that I am reconnecting with. Ricky's warmth and charm instantly put us in a good mood...and wow... so much knowledge of favorite dishes and 'off menu items' made for a fantastic blend of flavors Oh yeah...we also ate food...lol Over a two day period I had... Roti curry (twice) Fried pork belly (twice) Bbq mix combo (twice) Sticky rice (twice) Steak larb salad Crab and pork dumplings (secret menu) Pork cheek (one of Ricky's favorite) Papaya salad/noodles mixed together Nam wan taro (warm taro pudding dessert) Pandan mango sticky rice Ice cream Iced coffee All of it was delicious, and would have to be...for me to go back within a 48 hour period All the flavors are so intense and vibrant. You never really grasp how bright the flavors are until you try a bite of something, then try a bite of something else...and by then you realize you've eaten too much Even though this restaurant is not close by...this is now on a very short list of must eats. Thank you Ricky!

With my family and I just getting into SoCal and needing to find somewhere to eat for our late lunch, I was so excited to come across Nok's Kitchen. Laotian food is and will forever be my food bias and yet i find it so hard to find somewhere, ANYWHERE, that hits the spot the way that I want it to. Growing up, I was blessed enough to have authentic homemade Laotian food through a friend and her family- that has set the tone and the bar extremely high when it comes to my flavor expectations. With Nok's high ratings I was hoping to find my go-to whenever I am in town. Lunch: *TUM MAK HOUNG (Papaya Salad)- requested for SPICY & added raw shrimp [+ additional $5] *KUA MEE SEN YAI w/ Chicken [stir fry rice stick noodle] *BBQ MIX COMBO- comes with sticky rice, pork sausage, a wagyu skewer, and a chicken thigh skewer *Wagyu Skewer [because one wasn't enough so we ordered an additional stick] I made the request to have the papaya salad made with extra padaek [pungent, funky, fermented fish sauce]. I let the staff member know I enjoyed my papaya extra fishy and extra spicy. This dish was what I was looking forward to the most and it unfortunately didn't meet my standards. The plate was missing the extra dark liquid puddle where the shredded papaya swims in. Most importantly, the funky, fishy level was missing-even with my request for extra padaek. Though, the spice level was hot and the raw added shrimp was enjoyed. The kua mee sen yai was good- noodles where fresh and the flavoring was delicious. The bbq mix combo was kind of pricy given the amount of food actually given. The chicken portion is what carries the most volume and we could have done without that protein. The pork sausage and wagyu skewer were great. The jeo som sauce was delicious- so good i easily ate this with sticky rice on its own. 3.5 stars specifically for the food but i'll bump the rating to a 4 since the staff is so kind. I might come back but my meal will most likely not include papaya salad. Unfortunate because this is what I forever crave...

Nok's Kitchen is a Laotian restaurant with a variety of dishes on the menu. The menu items weren't extravagant, but felt like food for the soul. They made us feel warm, happy, and filling. Customer service was also really sweet. Our server, Ricky, was very friendly, personable, and down to earth. He was a delight to talk to and made us want to come back. * Rotti Curry 4/5 - This came with crispy and flaky pancakes topped with fried shallot sprinkles. The curry sauce was very flavorful with a nice coconut milk taste. * BBQ Mix Combo 4/5 - The star of the show was the spicy green sauce. It was medium spicy, and I think it had garlic, red chili pepper, and lemongrass. The chicken was 3.5/5: moist and juicy with crispy skin, but a bit bland. The beef was 4.5/5: it had a nice lemongrass flavor, though some pieces were less tender than others. The pork sausage was 4/5: made with pork and green onions, with a succulent texture and good flavor, but kinda on the fatty side. The rice had a chewy bite to it, a bit tough. * Oxtail Soup (Tom Hang Ngua) 4/5 - The oxtail was tender, but slightly chewy and not as "fall off the bone" tender as I would like. If it got simmered overnight or for a day, it would taste so good. The broth reminded me of pho broth, but with a spicy kick and a slightly different flavor profile. I liked it. Just be careful with the red chili pepper slices floating in the soup because they're very spicy! * Pandan Mango Sticky Rice 4/5 - The mango was nice and sweet. The sticky rice had a mild pandan flavor and sweetness with a slight bitter aftertaste. * Coconut Ice Cream 4/5 - This had a light coconut flavor with a tender sweetness. I wanted a more intense coconut taste, but this was still very refreshing.

Nok's Kitchen was the dinner pick and I knew it was going to be a big dinner since I was really hungry! We got to the store close to around 7:00 pm. The store has a parking lot and was nearly packed when I went. After heading inside, we added ourselves to the waitlist and waited ~ 8 minutes for them to clear some tables. The table space felt a bit small for two people. Or maybe it's because we had a large order haha. The table was also pretty close to another group though. Their menu was pretty descriptive and had pictures, which helped us decide what to get. Combo 4 - BBQ Mix & Sticky Rice: Comes with pork sausage, wagyu ribeye skewer, and chicken thigh. There were two sauces provided - one was a sweet & sour and the other one was a spicy green. The spicy green one was my favorite since it had a nice kick to it! The sausage was okay while the skewer and chicken thigh stood out more. Overall, I liked the variety of the combo! Stirred Fried Egg Noodles: We got the noodles primarily as a dish to eat with the bbq mix and got it with fried tofu. This dish had a lot of flavor itself and did its job! It would be a great standalone dish. Rotti Curry: Was craving curry at the time and knew I had to get this! The curry was amazing! The rotti was nice and flaky; it was a bit greasy though. It hit the spot and was a nice amount for sharing. Mango Pandan Sticky Rice: This came out after we cleared our main dishes. It tasted really good and not too sweet. However, it didn't really have the Pandan flavor and tasted like a regular mango sticky rice. Overall, everything was solid! I'd come back to try other dishes here and recommend the ones I had already. American Express is accepted here.

Hi! Where did you guys get your furniture especially the chairs?

Is there more than one location? Pics show different buildings?

Only one location. They moved from Westminster ave to Bolsa Ave

    Are they closed every Tuesday?

    Do they have vegan food?

Most of their food will have hints of fish sauce, pork rinds, and/or meat loaf. Though you could ask to have these removed as their notable dishes like the Papaya Salad, Cucumber Salad and Crispy Rice Salad dishes.

    Can we make a reservation?

The Lao sausage green sauce that it comes with is sooooooo good, do you guys sell it by itself? if not, you should really bottle it!!!

They sell it in a jar for $8

Are the frozen Lao sausages for sell at the restaurant?

Hi yes I have them available

How many tables and how many chairs do they have for outside dining?

They have about 2-3 small tables that flank both sides of their restaurant.

What dishes do they only serve on the weekends?

    Soup based dishes.

Does this place accept debit/credit card?

Yes, debit and credit cards are accepted

Located in the heart of Little Saigon, I'm embarrassed it took me this long to stop by, given the fact that all my SoCal visits forever revolve around this area. I came here with a party of 4. The restaurant is small in size so it fills up quite quickly. Seating is provided on the side for those who wait and placing your name on the waitlist is key. Lunch: *PAD SE EW (Combination $19.99)- Stir fried soft rice noodle with egg, chinese vegetables, and black sweet soy sauce. *PAD THAI (Sea food $20.99)- Fried noodles with choice of meat, eggs, bean sprouts, carrots, cilantro, and green onions. *JUNGLE PAPAYA SALAD $20.99- Shredded Green Papaya with thai eggplant, long green bean, ong choy, pork rind Food- Both noodle dishes were great. Noodles were coated well with the flavoring/sauce but still had a good bite to it. Noodles were not overcooked and the pad se ew had a very distinct charred tasted from the wok- DELICIOUS to say the least!! The papaya salad was what I was looking forward to the most. During the time or ordering, I request for this dish to be "SPICY SPICY" and asked for extra padaek. The server 100% obliged but I assumed the kitchen staff would balance things out with a little extra sugar and lime... that wasn't the case. The papaya salad was really spicy and really salty. I still managed to eat the dish but would have loved a more well-rounded mixture of flavors. Service was great. The two younger gentleman took orders, Rang up customers, and brought food out to the guests. They were kind, patient, and obviously followed patron's requests to a T. 4 stars. Next time I'll be a lot more clear in my request for extra padaek sauce and I'll have to try Vientiane Lao Thai's lod chong [green worms is what is used to call this growing up].

I haven't been back for so long because I dread the parking but decided to give the Night Market another shot this year. As usual, parking is a nightmare. We parked a few plazas away and walked towards the Asian Garden Mall. Its hard to complain since its free. Most of the popular Night Markets charge a premium just for parking. Upon arriving at the Night Market, it was chaotic in the best way. The number of vendors multiplied since the last time I was there. There's so many more food offerings and they all look and smelled SO good! There's so much more variety now too. We ended up picking up the BBQ pork skewers. There were several booths serving them but we picked the one with the shortest line. It was 3 skewers for $10 which is a very fair price. The skewers were delicious and flavor is so good. Its slightly charred but still tender from the fat. I also picked up their grilled corn on the cob for $4. The corn has a glutinous texture which pairs well with the green onion garnish. We also grabbed a Tornado Potato stick. A little gimmicky but we love how crispy and fresh it tastes. Way better than the ones you'd get at the fair. Overall experience here was great. Free parking, free admission, and affordable Vietnamese street food! Its honestly the best Night Market in SoCal. Too bad they're only here for the summer. The restaurant only had 3 tables, 1 is a 2 top and the other 2 are pushed together to make 4 tops. When you enter you place your order with the cashier. Note on the menu their dishes do not include proteins, you have to add those as extra with an extra cost. We ordered the curry puffs since we read about them in the reviews. I ordered pad see ewe with broccoli on the side to give to my hubby. They use American broccoli here and not Chinese broccoli. Hubby ordered Pad Thai. We also wanted mango sticky rice but they were sold out for the day. We both ordered cups of water which were served in small plastic cups. Asked for lemon slices and received lime slices. The Sriracha and Soy sauce arrived in small packets and they brought us metal plates and silverware. Food came out in a decent amount of time. It's made to order so you do need to wait some. The restaurant was clean and not too noisy. The curry puff was a bit dry inside and not juicy at all. The crust was flaky and crispy and we enjoyed that. We came here at night so maybe if it was earlier in the day it would have tasted better? My Pad Se Ewe tasted good and I appreciated they were able to do the broccoli separately. My hubby liked his Pad Thai as well. The portion sizes were ok and we both finished our plates. If you plan on coming here during lunch or dinner time I imagine you will need to order it to go as it's so small inside. When we got there the first table was full, we took the middle tables and another party of 4 came in and took the last table. If we are in the area and it's not busy we will definitely return. However, if it's busy we will go elsewhere as we would not be able to sit and enjoy our meal there due to lack of seating.
