Top notch service in this day and age. I was in a pinch and my regular repair place couldn't get me in soon enough, for a failed emission control test on my 2003 vehicle. I read good reviews here about Renberg Auto, so gave them a call. I figured I'd get everything handled that I'd put off, like new brakes, airbag light on, and a couple of other things. They finished everything within a couple of days, knowing I was under a timeline. Craig and his techs are first rate. Very down to earth and honest. Craig kept great contact with me. The cost was lower than I expected. That was nice! Not only did they fix the emission control problem (among others), they took it for the retest. They also picked me up to take me to get my finished vehicle at the shop. (This may not be their typical service. I live alone without anyone close enough to help me get a car dropped off/picked up.) Dishonest and unprofessional. Liars and Cheats. 1. They charge double for parts: When questioned about this, the man at the front, Craig, joked that he "needed to keep the lights on". 2. They lie about labor time: A small issue that would normally take less than 30 minutes was quoted as going to take 2-3 hours. 3. They lie about when you can retrieve vehicle: At 11:00 am was told it would be ready in an hour or two and to expect a call; fast forward to 4:15 pm, when I had to call the garage for an update. Craig feigned doing the paperwork at that very moment. Avoid this garage at all costs. read more

Needed four new tires and reached out to Renberg. They were very quick to respond and quoted a fair price. They were able to take my car the next day and got it back to me quickly. It was raining when I dropped it off and they even offered to give me a ride home. When we went to pick up the car, the charge was a little less than quoted. It's important to have a car mechanic you can trust. We started with Renberg Auto back the 1980's, and we've never had any reason to second-guess that initial decision. Most recently we called Renberg's when our engine light came on. Craig took our call and worked us in for same-day service. The mechanic addressed the immediate problem, provided a courtesy inspection, and identified a few other problems (disc brake pads and rotors, valve cover gasket) with our 2007 Honda Odyssey. Renberg's garage has been a trusted auto shop in Wheaton for years. My experience their has been exceptional. Not only do they offer competitive pricing and fantastic service but it is a very honest and ethical business. I have taken my cars to them for more than 8 years and never had an issue. Recently I had them replace a timing belt and a potentially related issue came up shortly thereafter. While we do not know if their work on the timing belt caused the issue or not, they completely covered the subsequent repair without question. That is what I call exemplary service and a business that earns the loyalty of their customers! I recommend them to everyone and will continue to do so for as long as I own cars. read more

Renberg's Garage has been repairing my car since I bought it in 2000 and has repaired all my cars for the last 18 years. They treat me with respect and talk to me intelligently. As a female car owner this is important to me. They are always fair and upfront with all charges and I trust them to keep my car running so I never have to miss work because my car has broken down. They explain what needs to be done now and what I can plan for. It is convenient to the train, I can drop my car off and just jump on the train and head downtown come back at the end of the day and my car is done. read more

When I called because my car was hard to start, I was told to bring it there the next morning. The next morning, after waiting for a while, we were told that the car battery was bad and had to be replaced before they could check other stuff. I was quoted $160 for battery replacement ($110 for a battery of some obscure brand and $50 for labor). When I declined, I was billed $30 for battery check, which they had not disclosed (if they had to charge $30 for something that is customarily free of charge, they should at least disclose it beforehand). Btw I still haven't replaced my car battery and have been driving my car with little problem for many weeks since. read more

I would never use this mechanic again. My mom recommended him, saying that he won't diagnosis problem that won't exist. I do agree with that, however, I needed my fuel pump replaced. My car was towed there ($94 tow charge for a mile and a half). When Tom called me to list off all the problems with my car in addition to the fuel pump he told me I needed a serpentine belt, back breaks, and I was overdue for an oil change (which I had 50 miles to go). I told him I am a single mother who struggles and lives an hour away... Just do the fuel pump, so my car would run. He told me $749. What he does not realize is that I work at a large dealership with a reputable service dept. After talking to my service advisor he explained to me with parts and labor, it's a $400 repair. I called Tom and explained. I told him what my service advisor said. I told him I couldn't afford to pay what they were asking. He didn't budge. I found out that having the car towed from Wheaton to Libertyville ($200) where I work plus the initial tow, plus replacing the fuel pump would still run me less than having the work done at Renberg's. I told Tom that was what I was going to do. He told me fine, I needed to pay the $94 tow and a $98 diagnosis fee, otherwise they would not release my car. I was at their mercy. I later found out that a family member had a similar situation with them. I love all the small businesses in Wheaton, it's where I grew up, and they remind me of easier times. However I feel the Renberg's Garage is a poor representation. read more

I am sooo glad we have Renbergs in town; they are a great alternative to using the dealer. We have been going to them for 20 years. They never push services you don't need. They tell you the percentage your brakes are worn and you decide if, and when, to service them. I really like that. The prices are much more reasonable than the dealer is; I've checked! They are a pleasure to deal with. I can drop my car the night before, they will call with the estimate before the work is done, I pick up my car and there has never been an additional charge to the estimate. son's car towed there when fuel pump went bad. The manager, Tom, gave me a price and then said he would "tweek" the cost so we agreed to have work done. Of course after the work was done, Manager claims he is not the owner and would not lower the price. Wish he would have said theat before we agreed to the work being done. Our fault for trusting them. Garage itself is very old, dirty and disorganized. I'm curious to see how the work and the warranty on their work holds up. I probably wont go back unless the warrantied work fails. Not to be trusted. Wish I would have been able to read the other bad reviews here before it was towed- seems reputation is for not being honest read more
