Went in for an oil change ended up spending 500.00 upsell, unnecessary services and don't have clear pricing. Would never go back there.

Decided to try this Grease Monkey location after a bad experience a year ago. What a horrible idea. On arrival an employee came out stood by my car and asked me what I wanted, had I been there before and what kind of oil. I wanted a simple oil change, yes had been there previously and your records should indicate the type of oil. I had been coming to this location long before it was even Grease Monkey. This guy then tells me they are having an issue with their compression system. 3 empty bays, no business and I was told to go somewhere else. Things went south from there and i said you're an oil change business and you're open so what's the problem? We exchanged words after that and he turned his back to me, refusing service, and walked away. To me this location is a joke and I would be embarrassed to claim it as my business. Previous problems are in another review and not wanting to provide service seems to be a pattern here because either there is only 1 employee there or they have other issues, nothing works most of all the employees they do have. Beware they are the rudest and most incapable staff I have ever encountered. Go anywhere but here, just like I did and get treated with respect because you're paying for a service that Grease Monkey is supposed to provide. I really am not sure why they are still in business. But then again, 3 empty bays! The coupons are not worth the hassle and blatant disrespect. 0 stars from me. read more

I haven't been back since, however there is something to be said about a manager who is willing to take the time to correct an underwhelming experience. I might give them a second chance eventually. We've been bringing our four cars here exclusively for nearly 2 years. I pulled up on a Sunday morning. Expected a bit of a wait. Kid comes out and tells me that there's a 45 min to an hour wait. I said "that's fine." The kid turns away visibly annoyed and walks away. Confused I asked, "do I just leave my car here?" He shouts back " yeah, just go inside and wait." Everyone has a bad day, but I watched this kid turn car after car away with his sour attitude. -last I checked, this was still a service industry. Came here for just an oil change. They took the filters out to show me and recommended I get them replaced. Told me they would be about 30 a piece. I told them no thank you and I would get those done by a friend. He told me well the price is the same at the store and we can do them now. Said no thank you again. He asked me if I wanted the cabin filter just thrown away. No I want it back in my car. He says it is doing no good and won't put it back in. So he threw it away. I asked him to just let me know what filters I needed. He said it would all be on my receipt. First if you took it off my car out it back in my car as I asked you to do. I didn't ask you to take it off in the first place. Secondly nothing about any filters were on my receipt. Went and looked up about much the one filter he threw away would be and it was 10. Not even close to what he said was store price was. I do not enjoy nor like being told things that are not true. I've been here for two oil changes. I get the upselling for other services are part of it and they were fine when I said no but don't try to up sell and be dishonest about pricing. He replaced my wipers that were breaking along with giving me an oil change. They are very knowledgeable and I know the value of the work I'm getting done. Do not recommend ! Went for transmission service and they had no idea what they were doing. Saw them watching a YouTube video to try to figure out how to refill fluid . Was there over 2 hours after being told 20 mins.They did not replace my skid plate and then did not stand behind their error. beware of this place. did not put the oil cap back on properly and also failed to put back on the oil drain gasket causing oil to spill all over my new mini's engine! once showed the clip from the mini dealer where i had to take the car and have the oil replaced he would not refund or accept responsibility! i would not even give them -5 star but i guess i have to paick at least one star??!! read more

I brought my car in for an oil change and to fix a light that was out. The workers tried to gaslight me and tell me I had both of my headlights out...when I could see with my own two eyes, that only the one was out. The person working the desk went back out to the bay telling his employees "she keeps tellin' me I'm wrong, I don't know what she's talking about!" While they continued to laugh. I'm not sure if they're just not familiar with my car's set up, or if they're trying to take advantage of a woman that they think doesn't know what she's talking about. Joke's on them, though, because I was raised by mechanics. Anyway, maybe don't make fun of someone who knows what they're talking about where they can hear you? It was extremely unprofessional...and if you were trying to make me feel dumb so I'd pay you $60 for lights, nice try. Anyway, I won't be coming back here. Ever. So my boyfriend took my car to go get the oil changed at this grease monkey in Carol Stream. My boyfriend said that they were complaining the whole time that they were working on my vehicle about the marijuana smell, ( which it is legal in the state of Illinois) and I am a MEDICAL patient and I am able to legally consume marijuana. My boyfriend said whoever was working on the vehicle did not want to look at him, he said he can over here the workers saying things like " it smells awful" hurry up with the vehicle and other things that I can't even imagine what they said when we couldn't hear them. About a month later my car starts to feel very jerky as I am driving it. I do believe that they did a half ass job on my car to get it out of their place of business because they were complaining about the smell. My boyfriend does have a video recording about this incident and if I really wanted to I could sue so do not take your car here unless you wanted to get my stuff and you need the oil changed a month later. Horrible. I made an appointment to get a simple oil change. A few minutes later they tell me they actually don't have the right filter so they are not able to do it. That is totally okay and I leave. I make a last minute appointment somewhere else, and on the way start smelling gas. Thankfully Fullers was able to get me in last minute and it turns out the simpletons at Grease Monkey didn't put the cap back on all the way. So an oil explosion everywhere. I'm so glad they were able to clean it up for me and do an oil change. I've been extremely busy with work and was not able to get an appointment at my usual mechanics. So I trusted Grease Monkey....right away I had a bad feeling with literally EVERYBODY not wearing masks and the mechanics having a bad attitude. I digressed. We'll it turns out I had NOTHING done and still ended up in a terrible situation that was solved by pure luck. Lesson learned. I'm going to listen to the reviews. My wife brought her Ford Escape here and I've never experienced such incompetent employees. We got seriously lucky that we didn't get hurt. The manager dealt with it well enough though . We came in for an oil change... just an oil change. This model of car needs a special tool to remove the fuel filter. Well, an employee tried to pry it off with a screwdriver and ended up mangling it and the fuel line. Instead of telling us, he tried to cover it up and sent us on our way with fuel spraying the underside of the car from his botched cover up.... we realized that something was wrong the next morning when the car reeked of gas and half a tank was gone from the 10 minute drive home. My wife ended up having to miss work and drove it straight to our regular mechanic who told us what had happened and that we were lucky that it didn't catch on fire. The ONLY good (and reason why I'd even give one star) is that when my wife took the note from our mechanic to the manager here he refunded her money plus paid the bill for our mechanic to fix the problem. Hopefully it was just one idiot employee and not a pattern for how these guys do business. read more

I went in for a simple oil change in my honda civic and these guys overtorqued my aluminum oil pan ruining the threads for the cap and put in a spring just to keep it there. Now I have to replace entire pan because i have a leak. Bunch of incompetent monkeys. read more

Went here for a quick tire rotation and left with an illuminated tire pressure light and scratch/chip marks on my rims surrounding the wheel lug nuts. Considering this was my first tire rotation ever in this particular car...it's kind of hard not to point fingers. 2 stars because I had a $10 off coupon, but I guess I'll be paying more than what I saved to touch up my rims. My son took my car to Grease Monkey for an oil change in which prior my car never leaked oil. My son recently changed the oil for me - last week - in which he noticed the drain plug was rigged to stay in and once removed discovered that it had been crossed threaded and now won't go back in without it leaking. My son contacted Grease Monkey in order for them to take a look at it. They said to bring it in for an assessment. They put it up on the lift and all looked at it. The manager then said "We are not doing this" and then told my son it must have been him that screwed the drain plug back in. Things got heated and my son left without a resolution. We have escalated this to corporate as this was not handled properly. Don't take your car here. Cheap oil change franchises do crappy cheap work and do not stand by their work. I now have a car that leaks oil that never leaked oil in the past which from what I am told an expensive repair. I will update comment once corporate responds (up to 48 hours). read more

Ryan, the store owner, contacted me and we spoke on the phone. He was very respectful and explained that he had addressed some of the issues regarding etiquette with his employees. I appreciate his willingness to reach out and therefore I changed my rating as I could tell he was running a family-owned business that he cared much about. He directed me to their website to check on deals and coupons. However, I felt that I was placed in danger by not having my battery properly covered after they checked my battery levels; my current rating reflects that oversight. Overall, he seemed like a nice guy and they provided good service for me in the past. For future customers, I would make sure to do a thorough walk-thru of your vehicle before leaving, just in case. I brought my car in for an oil change and everything was great, but as i left, the brake pedal went to the floor, apparently my brake hose busted while getting an oil change. When i came back with no brakes, the manager told me that "this happens" and made me pay the full price to get my brakes fixed, even though it broke while in the shop.
