I stopped by Scott's Service Place because of a low tire pressure. I already had a spare on and dropped off the tire with a piece of metal in it to be checked and reinstalled later. A couple of hours later, I received a phone call from Scott letting me know that the piece of metal hadn't actually punctured the tire, and they couldn't find any spot where it was leaking air. Scott suggested keeping the tire overnight to double-check, and I agreed. The next morning, he let me know that the tire had held air perfectly and was safe to reinstall. We still don't know what caused the sudden pressure drop, but I've been driving on the tire for a couple of weeks now without any issues. What really stood out was the level of customer service. Scott and his team kept me updated every step of the way, made sure the tire was truly safe before putting it back on, and even followed up a few days later to check how everything was going. Brought my car in to get a noise fixed. They told me it was taken care of, I paid, and left -- but the noise was still there. Nothing was fixed. I called them after realizing this and they told me to come back on Tuesday so they can test drive it -- something they should've done in the first place before charging me. After oil change he left skid plate in the trunk! He flipped home position of wipers on Ford Escape, after first use blades collided and stripped mounts. We were stranded in a rainstorm. He blamed me. After trans fluid flush at 79k miles I drove 1,134 miles. The trans fluid was burnt black causing breakdown far from home. He said it was a normal wear breakdown. I paid for towing and trans replacement, $6,781.89+credit card interest!! The trans pump was knocked off during his flush work. He would not honor his work. We lost our factory warranty at 80k miles. We went to him 3 times and all three times we had significantly worse problems. Our 2019 Escape was in near mint condition before we met Scott. Saw front desk employees come and go in our short time there. Many other "quality" auto repair shops to choose from. No more touchy! read more

I'm so glad I finally spotted this place coming over the bridge in Wheaton. Even glader to find that it was well-liked by the Yelp community. I have another "woohoo" review to add to the bunch. We used Scott's for the first time this week to have a headlight replaced. What stands out to me are my three interactions with employees of Scott's. When I called about having the bulb replaced and about an exhaust smell, the guy I spoke with listened well and was respectful. At most repair shops, I feel rushed and get the idea that service managers and techs think customers (particularly female customers, perhaps), don't have a clue what they're talking about. While I may or may not have a clue, I didn't get the feeling of being dismissed at all by either employee I encountered (Rich and Matt - yes, they were labeled!) Instead, they were patient, and I perceived that they really wanted to take care of my concerns. The bulb replacement turned out to be an involved job requiring removal of parts that wouldn't ordinarily require removal in other cars. We were already aware of this, and it's the reason my husband didn't just switch the bulb himself. When Rich called to tell me the car was ready, he explained exactly what had been done and seemed almost apologetic about the cost associated with the repair. I'd been expecting it, since as I mentioned, we were aware of the complication, but I thought it was very nice that he cared to explain it all to me. Prices are comparable, so far, to the dealership where we had taken our car prior to moving, at least for headlight bulb replacement and oil change. They have a loyalty program that allows a free oil change after 4 paid oil changes. If you have little ones, there is a kids play area that would be good for 2+ hours of fun. It seems like the owner has kids who've set it up with their extra or outgrown toys. Very nice. Finding a place to get our cars fixed is right up there with finding a place to get my eyebrows done...it's these things that come together to make a town feel like home. read more

We've been going to Scott's for years. You could probably find a place to do some of the work a little cheaper, but they have always dealt with us in total honesty, and the work has always been good. We've walked out with very cheap repairs when they could have totally burned us. They've never tried to pressure us into things. I was driving home and heart a loud snap, my power steering went out, AC went off and battery light came on. When I got home and looked under the hood, I saw that the serpentine belt had snapped. I had my car towed to Scott that day and they were able to get it into the shop the following business day. Matt was incredibly helpful, having put together 3 different proposals on how they could fix it, how much each would cost and a detailed list of the parts and labor. Turns out my tension pulley had locked, caused friction and the belt snapped. My car was finished ahead of schedule, was fixed for a less money than at your local Firestone (I had quotes from multiple locations and businesses) and sounded beautiful when I got it back. Mr. Scott's Service Place was recommended by a highly competent Wheaton mechanic who does not do spring work. My first impression on the phone was that Mr. Scott was a man of integrity, and proud of his business..........confident of his people and their competence. The front of the business and back shop was clean, orderly, and well lighted. Pride shows! We had a broken rear spring on a Toyota Sienna, and after a thorough inspection, Mr.Scott gave me an reasonable and fair estimate to repair the problem. The estimate was acceptable, and much better that unnamed Toyota dealers in Lombard and Naperville, One dealer even had an 'up' for an unnecessary additional repair. When we dropped the vehicle off for the repair, Mr. Scott and I had a brief discussion of stellar business practices, and it included integrity! I left feeling I had the good fortune to meet the right guy! Pickup was smooth, and the bill was on estimate and on time. The ride home was rattle free and satisfying! The summary of the experience is an excellent leader, with dedicated associates, who are proud of their integrity and competence. I'll be back! My boyfriend first brought his 1999 Grand Cherokee to Scott's one year ago to be serviced. They told him then, on top of the work they were doing, to consider getting his serpentine belt replaced because hot coolant had leaked onto the belt and weakened it. Since he had already spent money on other maintenance, he decided to hold off on the belt. Last week he got his brakes fixed, and while he was paying for them, the guy at the front desk told him again he should consider getting the serpentine belt replaced because it was in bad condition and could break at any time. Another mechanic was in the lobby telling a woman she needed to get her serpentine belt replaced, and he came over to us and said, "I'll show you guys too." He brought over two belts, one in horrible condition with rubber ripped off the top and one that was in mediocre condition with a few large cracks in it. He told me the condition of my boyfriend's belt was between the two belts he was showing me and that in places, the rubber had ripped off the top. I asked him how long he thought we had before it broke, and he said it was impossible to tell. We came back a few days later because my boyfriend was moving and wanted the belt replaced before his trip. They charged us $117.30. He said the belt itself, a Goodyear Gatorback belt, costs $70, and the labor costs $50. I asked to see the old belt after they put in a new one, and the mechanic showed it to me. At that point, he told me an entire row of rubber had been ripped off the belt's side. There were no cracks on the ridged side, and the rubber on the top was in perfect condition. There were surface-level grooves on the back. I took the belt to a mechanic at Tires Plus in Moline for a second opinion, and he said it appears to be in "good condition" and that no rubber had been ripped off the belt's side. I took it to Tom's Repair Shop in Wheaton and got a third opinion, a man named Dan, who also said that in his opinion, the belt did not need to be replaced. When I came back to complain about the situation, the mechanic lied about lying and said he had no recollection of that interaction. I brought the belt with me, and again, he tried to convince me that the belt needed to be replaced because "it was loud, and you can see the grooves." That level of dishonesty is completely unethical. Then when I asked how much they paid for the belt, they said they couldn't release that information. The owner of the business Scott called me after I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, and he told me the belt needed to be replaced because antifreeze had leaked onto the belt a year ago and weakened it, which made more sense to me but didn't erase the fact that I was lied to multiple times. Scott told me the guy who had explained what was wrong with the belt wasn't a technician but more of a bridge between technicians and customers so customers could better understand what was wrong with their cars. But I don't know why he would hire a person that lies to customers so they understand better...that seems counterintuitive to me. Overall, my experience with this business was not a positive one, but hopefully my case was an anomaly and this business does better by other people. read more

Just a typical auto shop trying to sell extra services you don't need. In one case I caught them in a lie about an Walker exhaust part they quoted me. Rich assured me it was stainless steel quality, but when I tried to confirm this directly with Walker, they said their part was not stainless steel. When I confronted Scott about this, he told me I don't need stainless steel quality in his opinion. (I guess so they can charge me again to change the same part in a few years?) read more

I have been going to Scott's since high school (16 years ago). My family and I have brought multiple vehicles including Honda's,a Mazda, a Kia, and a Chevy to be serviced. Throughout the years I feel I have been treated well by all of the staff at Scott's. I believe their work is very detailed, and each time my vehicles work was completed I have received a complete education about the work and maintenance billed to the vehicle. In addition, I was always given a list of what may need to be completed next. There were also times that I brought in my vehicle and staff has stated simply and honestly, that work did not need to be done. I believe this to be incredibly honest, and speaks to the level of this service shop. I would also like to give credit to Rich, who works in the office and always makes an extra effort to schedule me, numerous times over the years, the same day (in times of need). I took my 2006 Toyota Camry to a automotive-service chain establishment and they told me I needed over $1000 of parts replaced. Having purchased the car less than a year before, I was skeptical. I took it into Scott's and asked them to do a thorough inspection, without telling them what the other place found. Scott's found a few small items needing repair, but nothing else. I then asked them directly about the aforementioned big-ticket items. They not only said that they saw no problems, but also refrained from criticizing the other business. Friday I lost all brake pressure on my way to work. Scott's had some of the best reviews in the area so I decided to give them a call first. They were professional on the phone and rich told me to bring the car by. When I got there Scott himself took my car in. They parking lot was filled but they still managed to get to my car the same day. When they called with the diagnosis, Nick gave it to me straight. He gave me the price to fix completely and other options I had. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice and guidance he gave. I decided not to go through with the repairs and put the money towards a new car. Scott's let me keep it there over the weekend until victory could come pick it up on Monday. Best part the whole thing cost $25, their up front price for a brake inspection. Can't say enough good things about this shop, and that's coming from a guy from a mechanics family. My wife and I recently moved to Wheaton. Just recently her Saturn Vue died while she was driving the vehicle. Based on a recommendation from a family member, we had the vehicle towed to Scott's. Scott and his team were extremely polite and helpful. They needed a day to perform a full inspection and followed up with a emailed quote and a phone call. It turned out we needed a full transmission rebuild among other things. We were evaluating whether to spend the money or to sell the vehicle. Scott went above and beyond to research cost savings alternatives. He was able to find online that some GMC/Saturn vehicles had a part in the transmission that was covered under a recall. At Scott's recommendation, we had the vehicle towed to a GMC dealer. The repair was 100% covered and we have a fully rebuilt transmission at no cost thanks to Scott.
