It was more on the creamy side and honestly reminded me of mac & cheese, but in spaghetti form The fish was good, but for such a delicate fish, I felt like there were almost too many complex flavors going on. Rene at Tlaquepaque is a charming spot in a quaint faux Mexican village. The service is highly attentive and friendly and the food is very tasty and refined. I was seated outside next to a delightful courtyard in shade with soft, warm breezes. I had the Prix Fixe menu, selecting Chilean Sea Bass as my entree. The meal actually begins with 3 slices of multigrain bread and 3 sectioned tray - olive tapanade, pesto and garlic-flavored olive oil. I really enjoyed the rich-tasting bread and the tapanade. The first course was the lobster bisque. This is not only a refined and tasty soup but there are many chunks of lobster meat (whoa). The bisque also has a slightly sweet and rich taste. The main course was Chilean Sea Bass. The well-grilled fish was placed on yummy garlic mashed potatoes. Also, gracing the plate were fresh green beans and a tasty choice of delectable dipping sauces for the fish. The final (dessert) course was Triple Cream Brie Cheesecake. But the ambiance overall was nice and it was a beautiful day. Bruschetta trio was good. I liked the jamon one the best. The Tuna Nicoise was fine. Presentation was lovely. My bf would have liked some other veggies and don't feel it lived up to his standards. I had the Monte Cristo which was enormous and tasty. The ham had been fried and it really added to the flavor. The soufflé was incredible- although we were not advised it was a $5 upcharge for a minuscule scoop of ice cream. Speaking of prices. We were charged $30 for my sandwich which was listed as $24 on the menu. We didn't notice until I looked at the receipt that he next day. My boyfriend took me here for my 30th birthday this past weekend. When we walked in the restaurant was beautiful, and the staff seemed very welcoming, especially the hostess that sat us. Our waitress came over and was also incredibly welcoming. My boyfriend mentioned right when we sat down that it was my 30th birthday, and he also mentioned it on the notes when the reservation was booked. We started off with the drinks and I got the tiramisu martini, which was very rich, but didn't seem that strong. We ordered the escargot to start and the highlight for that was definitely the bread. The escargot itself was a bit chewy and the dish was overall incredibly heavy. We ended up requesting lemon slices to cut up all the richness and fat. For entrées, I ordered the lobster bisque for around $26 and my boyfriend ordered the Wagyu beef cheeks for $68. We both agreed the price was steep for what we received, especially for the lobster bisque, which came in a very shallow bowl and I counted maybe 5 small pieces of lobster. The wagyu beef cheeks were pretty good but didn't wow us. When it was time for dessert, I ordered the crème brûlée. While my boyfriend was in the bathroom, the waitress brought over the crème brûlée was just about to start firing it when I requested she wait for him to return. It was clear they weren't planning to do anything to acknowledge my birthday. My boyfriend had to go up to the hostess stand to request that they at least put a candle in the dessert. The waitress ended up sticking a candle in a blackberry that was in a small bowl of fruit on the side of the crème brûlée and walked away. It was incredibly awkward and a let down, but I guess a fitting end to a mediocre and overpriced meal. Overall a bad end to what was an incredible day in Sedona for my 30th. read more

Maybe the best I've had at a restaurant. Came topped with a piping of mashed potatoes and bread crumbs. Perfectly cooked and served with toasted brioche bread, smoked sea salt and a bacon marmalade. It was delicious and huge. My only thoughts on making it perfect...Go ahead and salt your marrow in the kitchen and add another slice of toast. You are serving two big marrow bones, so don't be stingy with a piece of toast. All that said, this app was highlight of dinner. My daughter opted for another appetizer as her entree. She had the Spanish style garlic chili shrimp in butter. Looked huge and she said it was over the top fabulous. (I'm allergic to shellfish so I just took her word) She added some duck fat fries which were fine, but not great. I had the mushroom strudel and it was okay but frankly pretty underwhelming. Think it had been pre-made, filling was blah, flakey pastry was not, and highlight was a plucky little pepper sauce that was delicious but didn't really go with the main dish. It screamed for a nice cream sauce, and some butter in the filling. I love mushrooms as a main and this poor little pastry looked and tasted like a hot pocket. Now back to the positives. The dark chocolate soufflé with homemade crème anglaise is lovely and well worth it . My daughter also loved the prickly pear margaritas. All in all, really nice experience and meal. The kitchen obviously functions well and service is perfect. A few tweaks on the menu and this place is stellar. You can't beat the beautiful Sedona red rock views while eating some delicious French Mediterranean cuisine. We came here after doing some light hiking over at Bell Rock. Both our meal and service were great during our dining experience. We came here for lunch and had the Roasted Organic Beet Salad and Grilled Chicken Panini with some wine. Ambiance is romantic, cozy, intimate. Hubby & I dined here for late dinner last Sunday. We got seated right away since we made reservations. We ordered escargot, foie gras, petite filet, & special of the night which was sea bass served over mashed potatoes with seared scallops on top, a side of green beans, & 4 different sauces. Escargot wasn't too heavy & delicious. Foi gras was on the sweeter side bc of the port wine reduction & the apple pear chutney but the foi gras itself was excellent. The toasted brioche paired so well with the foi gras. Petit filet was served perfect temp & tender with each bite. We paired red wine with our dishes. One huge downfall was that I chewed on a few tiny pieces of shell when I bit into the scallop. Husband reported it our server & she immediately apologized & had the chef come to us & he apologized for his mistake. The chef graciously offered to cook new scallops for us to take home. I truly appreciated their sincere apology. I call that compassionate service. I ate the scallops the next night & it was perfect. We had ordered bread service so we used that bread...the bread that came with it was better Foie Gras: we ordered because it said pork belly on the menu. The entire dish was good Duck fat fries: they were ok. I wouldn't order them again but great flavors. The fries were thick; I prefer them thin. So many people may like them Dinner Sea bass special: delicious. Came with sauces on the side. It was fresh and delicious Filet: it was sooooo good. Wrapped in bacon and fried leaks on top. Cooked to a perfect medium rare. 100% recommend Wagyu beef cheeks: I was a bit disappointed, but I also don't love stew. It reminded me of my mother's okra roast. Some people may love it Service: subpar. Honestly, for the price you'd think the service would be better. We didn't have anyone follow up with asking if we needed anything f until about 10 minutes after the food was dropped for each course. The bottle of wine was never poured for refills for the table Ambiance: we sat on the patio. It was quaint, quiet and amazing. It is also dog friendly. The seats are very uncomfortable. We did the prix fixe and were so happy with our selection. The duck far fries were tasty but hands down the best side was the sherry mushrooms. We were in Sedona, Az for my birthday this year. Everything was perfect and I absolutely loved my trip, on my actual birthday my boyfriend took me to Rene at Tlaquepaque. We ordered a surf and turf entree. I ordered it Medium rare but it arrived extremely raw and bacon was in the entree, when there was no mention of it on the menu. I do not eat pork. They took it back and was insistent in re-doing the meal. I really did not mind just canceling the order and going home since we were so tired from a long day. They convinced us to stay. One thing I have learned in years, never eat the food that is returned to the kitchen. We ate everything and the next morning my boyfriend and I were hugging the toilet. We had a flight to catch back to Hawaii and could barely get it together to catch this flight. Luckily, we caught our flight back home with many trips to the restroom on the plane. When we arrived back in Honolulu we went to the Dr. to find out it was food poisoning. I immediately called the restaurant to let them know we had food poisoning from the food and want to make them aware so no one else gets sick. The manager said he would follow up and call me back. I did not get a follow up or heard back from the manager at all. It seemed like he did not care. All he said is, "No one else complained or got sick." No apology , empathy, nothing. It is a shame because this is a very expensive and pretty restaurant on a very special day, but I guess no one cares. It is unfortunate. read more

My expectation of Rene was a lot higher than I probably should have set it just from the Rene's appearance and menu. With restaurants that present more of a finer dining experience, I want that to go along with the service too but I was unfortunately disappointed. When our beet salad arrived, my party had found a decently sized fly that got stuck in one of the leaves, we notified our server immediately but they seemed hesitant on finding a solution with us. We requested a new salad to be made to avoid a commotion but they were going half and half on just comping it and not re-making for us for some reason? The food in general besides that experience actually was flavorful and complemented the proteins/carbs that were the show. I loved the rack of lamb medium rare, perfect cook, not over-seasoned, just wonderful 10/10. I'd love to comeback to realize maybe I just got a weird day for service. read more

So we're in Sedona, and my wife and son are looking for a place for lunch and my knee is killing me and I am sick of walking around. There is no wait and we are ushered to a nice white tablecloth covered table. Se immediately orders the French onion soup. She almost didn't, but I suggest she get it as she gets it everywhere and to then not get it at a French place? Anyway, she gets the soup and immediately falls in love with it. Probably one of the best places she's ever had it. She follows that up with the Roasted Beet Salad. She was in heaven. My son and I both get the steak sandwich with frites. The steak was perfectly prepared. It was medium rare and my son had his medium. The aioli and au jus plus the crunchy roll and soft tender beef made for a fantastic sandwich. As I go back to look at their menu, this sandwich is nowhere to be found on it and it's a shame as it was easily one of the better steak sandwiches I had in Arizona! My husband, daughter, and I came in for dinner The host seemed a little judgmental of us bringing our energetic three year-old daughter into a white tablecloth restaurant. We had reserved a table inside but when we arrived the patio looked so nice that we asked to sit outside. They said all the outdoor tables were reserved, but I'm not sure that was true. There were still empty tables when we were leaving. Our server was exceptional though! He was attentive and kind. He also accommodated our request for some cubed Gruyère cheese for our daughter.
