My son and I went to this place specifically to support a local business. We found him to be very forward in a pressing salesman way - there was constant chatter about his competitors prices, how he has done this for generations, pointing out a receipt from 2016 to show how good his prices are and told my son he had to specifically go to a larger size due to his wide frame (twice), along with giving my son business cards to hand out to his friends. This was on a Thursday. We did find some of the options that were in his "display" room to be a bit tattered, however, trying again to support a small business, my son did find a suit he liked. This was on a Thursday. Fast forward only 4 days, my son and his group of friends going to prom have decided to wear matching suits. I called Tuesday morning to cancel, he was curt and told me he didn't have him in his records. I told him he had spelled my sons name wrong on receipt (we corrected him when we were there but he kept calling him the wrong name) and he would find it and cancel. The conversation changed when I asked about the $20 deposit - he explained it was for his time, all the work he put into ordering, his experience and personal care he took with my son (the large frame comment must have been a bonus...). How much work could he have done in 3 days on a suit not needed for 2 more months? None. I urge you to look elsewhere - the bad salesmen pressure, unfiltered comments and unneeded chatter on how great he is compared to his competitors is both strange and made what was supposed to be an enjoyable moment a memory to try and forget. read more

It was a really bad decision giving this company an opportunity to provide me a tux. I was there to have my measurements taken and it was in a crazy rush that it did not take 10 MINUTES TO GET IN AND GET OUT of that place!!!! I thought that maybe was the way it is... Wrong!!! The tux was awful with sew machine marks every where and it was large in so many ways! My wife was there returning the tux and told him how weird it looked like and this guy was so full of himself that he told her that measurements were taken and I was happy about all my choices. I went to this place to rent a tux for my son. He has alot to choose from and he may be good at what he does, I dont know. Problem is his attitude! He tried to make it seem he was doing me a favor by renting a tux for my kid 10 days before prom. He was annoyed that we wanted to look at colors, almost as if we were wasting his time. Then I asked how much is a typical package. He took me to a display on his wall with a reciept from the Menswearhouse. The receipt showed a full tux rental for almost $250. He tried to force me into believeing his price of 170 was a great savings and a favor he was doing for me. Then I asked about the coupon online and he said thats with the discount..."Im saving you money see! If you want to go else were go...just go but you wont find a better deal." I told him i went to another store and it was $140 and he said " oh ok go! tell the guy i said hello...see ya!" He waved me and my kid out of the store. We couldnt believe it! I always support small business thats why i went their. He was so rude. It was a lesson in business for my son thats for sure. BTW I went to Menswearhouse and the cost was only $130 with everything included. The other place i went to was called formalwear i think in Leominster, it was 140. I just didnt feel like driving all over town. Stay away from Rene's!!! He was very rude and doesnt seem to care if he has business or not. read more

Giving Dennis, the man who runs Rene's Formal Wear, a single star seems generous considering the deceiptful nature of how he runs his business combined with the antagonizing methods in which he communicates. In seventeen years of being a wedding DJ, I had never heard of a bad tuxedo shop. Well, now I have and I have experienced it firsthand. Let me start by saying I have several tuxedos and normally would wear my own, but I had a very special wedding for a cousin. They were excited to have a very nice, classic gray suit which was upsold to them by a tailor who claimed to have the inventory and knowledge to help our oversized groomsmen. However, during the course of preparations, it became known that they didn't have those suits in our sizes and we were switched to a basic black. I had no idea because I was unable to go to the initial group fitting, or I would have canceled my order at that point and saved us all time and hassle. When I was able to go to get fitted, I drove an hour to see Dennis and he had changed his schedule - so nobody was there. After several annoying calls from him, I was able to stop by another reputable shop a week before the event and get current measurements. Can you imagine my disdain when I got the plain suit, but it was too large! Seriously, I had to keep one hand on my pants the entire night so I didn't moon the guests. His comments about how each pants have adjustable waists are only okay if they are trying to use pants that close originally; these pants were as tight as they could go right from the start so obviously he knew they would be unlikely to fit. On top of it, I got no suspenders like I had also been told. Still, despite an oversized outfit (including the shirt, too - it was the size I wore before I lost fifty pounds at the beginning of the year), it was a great wedding and I would normally have just walked away with it being a bad experience. The next morning I gratefully gave the tuxedo back to the couple and left the hotel. Monday I get a call from Dennis complaining that he needed my tuxedo back. I explain to him that I had left it with the bride and groom and he specifically tells me that the groom told him that I did not return it. Shocked, I immediately call my cousins and discover that indeed there was one tuxedo missing, from a groomsman with the same first name. However, they had specifically told Dennis who it was (first and last name). Plus, all the outfits had bar codes ironed onto them, so he could have tracked down the culprit with the late return. Instead, he chose to take his time and harass us with calls; when I went to return his call to let him know that it was the "other" Chris, he hung up the phone on me! At that point I knew it was important that I save others the pain and hassles that we have gone through. Sure, he had more than a half dozen weddings last weekend, but if he had had enough stock, we should all have had the choices we want in sizes that fit. Nothing can excuse the bad communication, the easily proven lies and harassment that this individual brought to the event. As a DJ, I shall surely let any venue I know that uses or recommends him how poorly he treats his clients. Seriously, if I had a choice, I wouldn't even have given him the one star. read more

This shop is a legend - all our groomsmen loved talking to the owner Denis. He is so much fun! The pickup service at the hotel the next morning was very helpful and he did a great job on all the tuxes including the out of town groomsmen that sent in their measurements. He had a great selection of colors so we were able to get the light gray style for groomsmen and darker gray for the groom that we wanted. Reasonably priced and great service - just note no CCs accepted so remember cash or check. read more

The tuxedo's that were rented for my best friends wedding were horrible. The shoes had scuffs on them, there was a stain on the vest, whomever did the hemming of the pants that I was wearing decided that on a black pair of pants it would be a great idea to use white thread, and during the ceremony one of the buttons fell off of the suit jacket. Overall a horrible experience. I will never rent from this place again, and I am telling all my friends to stay away from this place. The groom was very upset with the shoddy work done. The only reason that I gave it one star is because yelp makes you rate it. read more

Upon meeting Denis, we were in love with his sarcastic, jovial and down-to-earth personality. He sold us with the promise of pick up and delivery at the wedding venue (which is also advertised on his website) and the ability to better fit our bigger guys... neither of these were true. Appointment times were inconvenient even though he works out of his house and when we finally made it there was when things really went downhill. He questioned all sizes from those in the wedding party that were out of state and were unable to be sized there. He was rude to a member of the party that went on his own to be fitted, stating that he had been inconvenienced by his unannounced arrival making him go elsewhere to obtain his fitting last minute. Prices were higher than many other places but he has an old, faded, almost illegible receipt hanging on the wall from a competitor stating a higher price and claiming that he has the best prices around. Smooth talker to win the business but nothing but unwanted attitude once he has it... he may have been the best at one point but he has definitely outgrown his love for the business. We rented 9 tuxedos, picked them up and were given a 24 hour window to drop them off after the wedding. The groom and I were responsible for collecting all money up front and responsible for writing one check instead of the normal, each man pays as they pick up and try on their tux... this made it very difficult to coordinate a time for all 9 to come try on tuxes to ensure proper fit, which was another issue entirely. When we dropped them off within the 24 hour window of our wedding, we were unable to collect all 9. We dropped 8 off and clearly explained that the 9th would be dropped off soon, providing the name of the party that still needed to be returned. He vocalized no issues with this at drop off but first thing the next day, rudely called the wrong member of the bridal party to harass him about the missing tux. He then called the groom and left a similar harassing message. Not the kind of service one would recommend to someone else when already dealing with the stressors of a wedding. We were hoping for the best but apparently did not achieve this. We won't be fooled again... very disappointing. read more
