Last night was my first time at the Reno Blow Dry Bar. With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought I would treat myself to a quick blowout. The online portal made it very easy to book an appointment, and same-day at that! I scheduled a slot with Irene at random, and I will definitely be going back to her in the future. The waiting area is spacious and well-stocked with water, coffee, tea, candy, and magazines. I showed up around 4:45 PM for my 5:00 PM appointment. The previous client ran a little bit over, so I was taken back at 5:15 PM. The hair washing station here was one of the most comfortable I have ever experienced and did not leave my neck hurting. Irene worked quickly, efficiently, and was able to accommodate my request of loose curls. She is easy to chat with and handles hair like a pro. My appointment did run past closing time, but Irene was patient and I did not feel rushed in any way. The service here at RBDR is professional and fair. This was my first time here and I will not be coming back first of all. I read reviews before coming here and I saw that my stylist had several reviews saying that he was late to his appointment so I came 10 minutes late because I didn't wanna sit in the salon for 10 minutes waiting for him when I got there he went. Oh I'm kind of on a time crunch and then said I can do something quick for you though I went back with him. He washed my hair. He blow dried it. It looked horrible. He said oh we have plenty more time. Do you want me to do anything else? First of all? I thought you were on a time crunch second yeah I want a proper blow dry. The way I want it styled my hair was left frizzy fluffy not straight and overall I could've done this at home. I came here because I wanted somebody to properly blow dry my hair. This is not the place to go. I do not know why it's called Reno blow dry bar. I've been to Ulta that's across the street. Not even across the street. It's like a minute walk. You can see that Ulta from the salon window in Reno blow dry salon. I've been to Ulta and their salon experience is way better and they actually style your hair. Now I'm going home after paying $55 to rest straighten my hair to spend more time on it put more heat on it. It was just a horrible experience. I'll never go back ever again. I had an appointment today at 11 AM and showed up a little bit early since I just finished taking a yoga class around the corner. My stylist hadn't arrived yet, and she texted saying she was going to be 30 minutes late. Since I was already there two of the stylists took my appointment on and got it done in record time and my hair looked great!! They were super efficient and friendly. read more

Sadly it looks like this location has issues to say the least. The stylist Brandyn showed up 15 minutes after the start of my appointment and after waiting over 10 mins with no feedback from anyone in the location I decided to leave. I called to confirm I wouldn't pay for their lack of stylist and Brandyn answered only to argue how I could have just waited longer and that he was ready to see me 9 mins after my appointment. Though I took a screenshot in the lobby at 10 after when he was no where to be seen. It was a really weird interaction to say the least arguing with someone about the importance of showing up to their job on time. Overall poor management, poor customer service, poor stylists. Not overly impressed with the salon. I was the first appointment of the day I guess, since when I arrived the doors were locked and my stylist showed up late. Not a professional start. We had family photos in Reno and I didn't want to do the same old same old with my hair. I googled blow dry bar in Reno and this place was only a few miles from our hotel. I made my appointment online I'm advanced and the day of drove over. I was greeted at the door and whisked away to my hair. My stylist was nice and confirmed what I wanted. Meh... I scheduled hair and makeup for my brother's wedding because I had shoulder surgery 6 days before the wedding on my dominant arm. I knew I wouldn't be able to style my hair or do a solid makeup job on my own. Well, this was more or less a waste of time. I arrived on time and the receptionist was ok, greeted me and checked me in. Stylist was NOWHERE. Ok no biggie probably in the back. The male stylist assisting another customer was asking about styles showing options and very personal. He was also immaculately dressed. Then.. here comes a lady in black sweats suit, white apron and very "sleepy" in appearance. Oh boy she asked for me. Yikes! She looked like she just rolled outta bed! Great. Well I came in washed with wet hair because I had to shower for the occasion (kind of an ordeal with one arm and was impossible not to get hair wet). So 1/3 of the job was done for her. She showed ZERO options and asked what I wanted. I said medium curl and to look nice and natural for the wedding since my right arm was incapacitated. She asked like tight or beachy... I replied in between please because I have quite thick hair so too tight I look like all hair and too loose looks like I did nothing. So she began....complete silence for over an hour while she dried my hair and curled. When I looked in the mirror...I could barely tell it had been curled. Ugh. I have been blessed with amazing thick long hair that literally holds a curl like it's a job. So I was really shocked that my hair already looked limp even with the use of all the stuff she sprayed in my hair (I typically don't use products and my hair can look the same after sleeping on it once I curl myself). Ok well at least it's styled and I look nice. I am at their mercy because I cannot use my right arm. Then comes makeup. I signed up for Smokey eyes no face stuff because I don't wear foundation. She did a good job on the eyeshadow. I told her I prefer browns and lighter colors because I'm very fair skinnned, like see through, so she did great on eye colors. I brought my eyeshadow primer and mascara just in case. She used my primer (yes I'm a makeup snob, I love eye makeup). She did the shadow. Then said well brows are not really in the smoky eye look... umm ok well obviously in my immobilized sling I cannot do it myself. But ok! Then I looked at her and asked what about eyeliner??? She said, "oh you want liner"??? Umm yeah duh! I cannot do that with my non dominant left hand. So she obliged. Then I said a second time that I'd brought my mascara...at which she informed me that she didn't have an eyelash curler so she couldn't do it. Well ok then I'll wing it left handed! So a whole 15 minute eyeshadow session for $20 on top of $45 hair...she could clearly see I was incapacitated but go do my own brows and mascara. Ok. WTF??? Seriously? What a joke! So I took my mascara and paid with a 20% tip which I shouldn't have given, and went home to Edward Scissor Hands my mascara and brows with my left hand... We left for the wedding and my hair was FLAT before we got there (2 hour drive to Sacramento area). My hair never ever goes flat! Ever! Even after sleeping on it. I don't know what the heck she used or did that caused it to be so flat so fast. So now my flat hair looks blah after $45 and an hour+ of styling in silence! This was a big waste of money and time. I was hoping to look great and feel better knowing that I look like a surgery patient with my big arm brace sling. However, I just felt like I should have done it myself with my left arm. I will never return to this chop shop! Save your time and money. Get a stylist at your regular salon that knows how to do hair. This was so lame for the cost. $78 in the end and I looked 1/4 as good as I do if my arm was at its regular ability level. Dissatisfied is an understatement. I cannot see why anyone would go here regularly for mediocre service at best. Not to mention sweats...really you couldn't muster up at least a semiprofessional outfit??? Ugh... gross. I dress more professional to ride my horse. Never again! Rip off! read more

I am a very satisfied customer of Reno Blow Dry Bar. My hair is just getting long enough (chin-length) for me to do interesting things with it, style-wise. I booked an appointment so I could remind myself of how I should be blow-drying and styling my hair. The online booking is straightforward and convenient, and it's possible to make same-day appointments. Mila was my stylist, and she did a fantastic job at making my hair look great. She asked great questions to understand what I was looking for: something not terribly different from my usual style; something sleek and professional but with volume (which my straight, fine hair usually doesn't have). Look achieved! I didn't need my hair washed, so the whole process took only 25 minutes (yes!) and cost me only $30 before tip. I love the salon's color palette and the upbeat attitude of the stylists. Getting one's hair blown out is a treat, and the salon understands well its clients' motivation for coming in! Why only four stars and not five? A minor detail: the slogan on the logo above the reception desk that reads something like "because having fabulous hair is the best revenge." Is that statement true? Maybe, maybe not. Is getting revenge on someone (an ex? an ex's current squeeze?) really the reason that clients come in? It wasn't my reason, and in my opinion it is crass to have that text displayed so prominently. But obvi that minor detail isn't going to stop me from coming in to get fabulous hair. Every woman deserves to be spoiled. This place provides such a great service. 55 minutes for $35 and your hair is clean and beautifully styled according to your wish. They offer complimentary 3- 5 minutes scalp massage at the beginning of the appointment. Also they offer a glass of champagne or wine. For some reasons it wasn't offered to me but I knew I 'll have plenty later at the new year eve party. Therefore it didn't hurt my feelings. Don't be shy and ask :) It was my first time. Rushed appointment, lack of customer service, disappointing......Can't say this was a great first blow out/style experience. Scheduled for 11am for styling for a wedding this afternoon. I get texted yesterday asking if I can change to 12, since someone booked at 12 needs the 11 spot. I couldn't, as I had a makeup appointment after. Get here about 10 minutes early today...multiple times I am left for the phone to be answered, even for stylist to text the next client telling her to come in at 11:40 instead of 12. My hair is literally done and I am being asked to pay at 11:20. The entire thing felt very rushed and like I was an inconvenience. And the style I ended with was not much different than what I could have pulled off at home, definitely not worth $45. Sad to say don't think I'd be a repeat customer after this type of customer service/treatment. read more

I would not recommend getting your makeup done here. They should really just stick to hair. I asked the stylist to do light coverage and a smokey eye. I left looking like a geisha doll. Ok let me start off by saying I am a hairstylist in the Bay Area and these BDBars are popping up everywhere! While I was in Reno I saw this place and decided to check it out and see what all these BDBars are about. I didn't tell the stylist that I also was a hairstylist just so I could experience the whole "client feel". Angela was great. She did a good shampoo and I really liked my blow out. It was very volumized, bouncy, and shiny. If you're in the area I would recommend this place. It was clean and the staff was friendly. Plus the price point of this salon is awesome. A poor attempt at the original Dry Bar. If you're looking for a high-end salon experience, look elsewhere. I was visiting from out of town for a friend's wedding and decided to stop in to get my hair done instead of having to do it myself in the hotel. When I arrived for my 10am appointment, I was greeted briefly without a smile and took a seat. At 10:15 still no stylist had called me and everyone looked like they had about 20 minutes left with their current client. I finally stood at the front desk and a stylist approached. She explained that everyone was running behind because a stylist came in late that day. I ended up leaving and coming back at 11am when someone would be available. I ended up having Eric wash and style my hair. He did a great job blowing out my hair and was personable. However, the service took about an hour and twenty minutes, not the fifty minutes advertised online. The next client was then left waiting as well, with no acknowle. The products used are less than mediocre and left my hair feeling dry. NOTHING compared to the original Dry Bar products. The salon even went so far as to purchase Dry Bar tools (3 Day Bender, hair clips, etc.), but the model was outdated and didn't hold a curl well. I ended up have to re-curl later. Aside from Eric, the stylists lacked professional dress and demeanor. Needless to say, if you are looking for a high-end salon experience this is NOT the place for you. read more

I had a 4pm appointment. I have never been here before and didn't realize they were located in an oasis of strip malls being that I live in Fernley and rarely come this south of Reno. Tried to call from 3:55pm to 4:10pm to first let them know I was running late and then to try and get someone on the phone because I couldn't find them. They don't answer phones, like at all. I finally find the place and it's almost 4:20pm. I had been circling the parking lot for a good 10 mins. I'm sitting here and literally 3 stylists are right in front of me playing on their phones. Another stylist, who apparently I'm getting after she's done with her current client, and a nail tech in the back. I'm a little (actually a lot) irritated as not only they don't answer the phone at all, I'm now extremely late for a photo shoot hence the reason for the blow out. Had one of the Diva stylists actually answered the phone, I wouldn't have been so late to the appointment. The nice gal who actually did my hair did a fabulous job. My hair looked amazing and absolutely loved how she styled it. Extremely nice and the reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1. I almost feel like the others didn't want to help me because I was late because no one ever came in after me. I was done by 5:30pm and the place closes at 6pm. I also feel like there may be a little racism going on because all the girls who literally sat on their phones the rest of the time where white and the girl I had to wait another 15 mins for is Philippino. It was a little uncomfortable when I rushed in and apologized for my lateness for my 4pm appt and they just turned and looked at her with the "do you want to take her?" Like I was at some walk-in barber shop. I'm glad she did my hair instead of the others if that truly is the case and for a $40 service, I was more than willing to pop her another $30 tip. When I told her about calling and calling because I couldn't find the place, she explained that no one there answers the phone except for the receptionist. Ummmm.... wow, so any client who's legit stuck in traffic, cant find the store front, maybe even gets into an accident on the way there won't be able to get in touch with anyone if there's no receptionist answering the phone because no one there can/will do it, even for the sake of minimum standards of customer service. Thankfully, I won't need to go back for any reason. However, if you do move forward in making an appt, make sure you're wearing your good Chanel (for a $40 blowout..... smh) and if you're running late, be prepared to be treated like you don't matter at all and don't expect anyone to answer the phone. read more

Just tried to do a walk in and the nail tech said everyone had left. If you are open till 7pm on Fridays (which is also when impromptu events pop up for people) one would think you would be staffed till then. Leaving over an hour before you officially close is unprofessional and just bad business. Will probably just go somewhere more high end in the future. I have visited the Blow Dry Bar twice in the last three years. Most recently, I visited with my 7 year old daughter. When we arrived and were seated with our hair stylists, things were very awkward. Our stylists weren't smiling and did not offer up much conversation. To me, that's a huge part of the experience. The entire process was pretty much quiet besides my interaction with my daughter getting her hair done next to me. I had my hair done in beach you waves and requested some volume at the top. When I left, some parts of my hair were more curled than others and there was no volume in my hair. I couldn't wait to get home and fix it. I'm sure my stylist tried her best and I should have said something at the time but she was pregnant and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. Overall, the concept is a great idea but the experience and the atmosphere is just not worth the price. read more

I gave it a 3 star because I thought the end result was just so so. I scheduled this appointment for family photos and requested a blowout with light curls. My hair is shoulder length with a little wave. It took 40 min to blow my hair straight. I can do this at home in 10 min. Needless to say my hair was over dried and flat. Luckily I was going to sephora to get my makeup done and the stylist there fixed my hair to my satisfaction. I will say, the staff is very friendly no complaints there. After thought... I did see young girls getting up-do's and braids which were very cute. If ever needed I would go back and try that, but not just the blow out. read more
