One of the hardest things about moving to a new city was giving up my hairdresser of many years. I did my research before choosing Josie, the owner of Tribe Salon, and I'm glad I did. Tribe is warm and welcoming, and I immediately felt right at home. Josie spent a good amount of time consulting with both me, and my husband, on our first visit. I was impressed with her knowledge, and how well she listened. Best cut I've ever seen on hubby, he looks super hot, and I love my cut, too. I have very thick hair, but I also like layering. Josie is a rare find, she has expertise with dry cuts, and uses a special technique with layering that doesn't make the hair thin, or get split ends. Another reason I chose Tribe is their commitment to safer and more natural color products. It doesn't smell like chemicals when you walk in the door, that' s good sign. I'm chemically sensitive, but have no issues with their products. Josie is really good with color matching. My first color treatment was similar to what I've done in the past, and I liked it, but on the next visit wanted something bolder. Her next recommendation was to try violet, and I'm absolutely in love with it! It's fun to work with someone who will truly consult with you, and be open to trying new looks. I stopped by recently to buy hair products, and Josie showed me how to properly use them. Their at-home products are Oribe, same brand as the color line, I believe, and they are luxurious and effective. I'm now able to rock my style for multiple days between washings. I highly recommend Josie, and Tribe Salon, for both men and women. I'm not sure why this place has anything other than 1 star reviews. I've been here four times and I will NEVER go back. The first time I went I was not satisfied with my hair color and had to go back so they could try again and I still wasn't satisfied. I thought maybe it was just because the person doing my hair didn't know what she was doing. I tried again a couple of months later with another person and I had the same results. Since there aren't many options in Reno for salons, I (STUPIDLY) decided to try again with a different person. This time my hair looked EXACTLY the same as it did when I walked in....THREE hours earlier. I called the next day and asked for a refund but was told that the owner of the salon would personally do my hair again. All I wanted was blonde hair without bleach, which I've gotten for 30 years in Los Angeles. I do not recommend this place!!! read more

Just had Jade for my haircut and she's awesome! I LOVE the cut she gave me! My hair is fine textured, so it falls flat all the time. The layering she did gives me so much natural volume- it looks great even air dried. But I've been blow drying and styling my hair more often now since it's so easy for my hair to look good after this cut. The hairstylist I went to was not good. She kept second guessing my choice to cut off my hair and I had to fix (cut off a few long strands she missed). Right away she questioned me wanting to cut it off and wanting to color it. Ended up just not coloring it because I just didn't feel comfortable that she would do a good job. Salon itself was nice enough. Even the shampoo job was not relaxing. I would just make sure to look at reviews of particular stylist and chose that way. Amy is a gem! For years, it had been hit or miss with different stylists at Tribe. Amy's so meticulous with her cut and much more refined with her techniques, not choppy or overly texturized like Kat who I was told "cuts exactly like Amy." No, not true! I told Kat to only cut 1/2 inch! She razor slashed into my hair and cut more than 1 1/2 inch! (See photo.) On the other hand, Amy listened, spent nearly 35 minutes on my hair, working in segments, but has now left Tribe and is moving back to Vacaville. The owner, Josie, did a great job the first time I went but the second cut was not the same. I don't know what happened? She went with a dry cut, did maybe 10 minutes of work, got someone else to finish off and moved on to do someone else's hair. Amy was the one who corrected the cut 2 months later and I looked and felt amazing! Took my little Alzheimer's lady, Maureen, here for color and cut. On arrival I was greeted by the friendliest lady, Ella I believe was her name. She let Cynthia know we were there and before we could take a seat to wait for her she came and got us. She was real nice and very patient with Maureen. I was very pleased. The place is very open and clean. Everyone there was very welcoming. After checking in I received a check in offer. We yelpers love our check in offers when they pop up. It was a sample size ORIBE shampoo and conditioner, and a trial size ORBIE dry texturing spray and ORBIE mystify restyling spray. I have yet to try them but am excited to. I think I'm going to start going here since it's right down the street from my house. Where I go now is off of Plumas and Plumb. A little far for someone who lives by Mira Loma & McCarran. This was my first time in awhile going to a salon. We have been so busy since we moved here. This just wasn't my first priority. I called the salon and didn't get an answer. Amazingly the young lady called back leaving a message. That was very nice! So, I made an appointment. My stylist was the owner, she was pleasant, kind and took into all my considerations. A cut and colir to hide the grey. We used 2 shades of color, one for the top and one for the rest. A very subtle contrast, and nice. She had a young lady helping her so they both worked on my hair. She was very sweet and worked hard. They didn't do any of the usual wash out and dry. There are no facilities I can see for that. The color had a low smell, and didn't need to be set with heat or foil used. I was impressed with the cut, simple but nice. When I left I was quite happy with my cut (she did only 2 curls on each side in the front when asked) and color, the price was close to expected, letting the owner do my hair, with a helper was pretty much close to expected. Now, I always wait about a week after a color to wash my hair. Thus allowing for the color to set. This being the first time getting a color without heat, foil, wash and style, I didn't know what to expect in terms of how long the color should last. But, I think it could be less harsh on the hair. I always wait a week to wash after a color. So I did the same with this. I use a good quality shampoo as usual since my hair is fine. My results after a week until the first wash: A very slight hint of grey on top the part where the owner worked. And 1/4 inch + of grey all over the main body of my head. Lifting my hair... grey all over but that small top area. Also on the sides by my ears, I have long grey hairs. The color did not seem to cover those at all after a wash! So, I am not excited with the outcome. I was up front about the grey being my issue. I have never had these results in the past. And my hair doesn't grow fast. It takes years for my hair to get long. This is the reason for my review. I am a busy person, my first impression was, high end salon, ok, high price. However... something never quite felt right. I ignored this. My mistake. read more

I wanted to come back and update this post. I was in the salon last week, and my hair has never been more fabulous! I think Lisa must have magic wand in her pocket that she waves over my head when I'm not looking! She's been doing weaves on my hair for over a year now, and the color is so multidimensional, people are always surprised when I tell them that this is not what mother nature gave me!! I am always so impressed with how well the color holds up and how beautifully my hair grows out. she really listens and when I tell her, I only have five minutes to deal with my hair. She gives me a cut that is really Wash N Go. I've never had that before and when I have more time.
