OBSESSED Over my new look! WOW. The Place: Beautiful hair salon located at The Village at Rancharrah. This is one of the most beautiful salons I have ever visited. Boho chic décor with fantastic lighting. The salon offers all kinds of fun drinks to its customers, from coffee and teas to bubbly drinks and wine. I usually get a Truly when getting my hair done. The Talent: All the hair stylists are super talented. I see all the customers leaving the place with beautiful haircuts and colors. I go to Elizabeth Dosh. She is so talented and every time she does my hair, I am more and more IN LOVE with the results. I met her in 2017 when she was at another location and then we lost contact for 2.5 years. I am glad I made it back! Elizabeth understands the color I want and how long I want my hair. She has helped my hair grow so much! Also, big shout out to the front desk girl! She works super hard to book our appointments, assists with the check-in and check-out process and always makes sure the place looks neat! The Products: At the salon, the stylist use high-quality products for your hair. My hair looks healthy and shiny. It did not get damaged with the coloring. I have purchased some of the products available for sale at the salon. I have used Oribe and I highly recommend it. They are the top of the line in hair care. Honestly the first bad experience I've had here but it was definitely memorable. I had to book with someone other than the stylist I've been seeing for 11 yrs. I get a cut and color "please cover the grays" is my standard answer. There are a few scattered ones around my crown and face area. Juli was nearly a half an hour late to start pushing my already scheduled day out of whack. It was my husbands birthday and we scheduled plans for the afternoon. I mentioned this to her and she says "oh I'm fast. I can get you out of here. I'll hurry." I'll hurry are the last words you want to hear before someone cuts your hair. She tried to make conversation which I understand but my goodness she asked me the same questions over and over. I appreciate the effort but I swear it was maddening to feel like she wasn't listening at all. I would have rather she just didn't talk honestly. It certainly made me feel like she truly could not have care less who was in the chair. Was she listening to what I said about my hair? Color was done I thought. Cut was definitely rushed and style was rushed so much she had to pull out two knots from working so quickly. My bangs were styled but when the front was literally sticking out from my forehead it was left that way. I was done at the point and really wanted to leave. I had barely stood up from the chair and without a word she took off. In the two second I picked up my purse she was walking to the back. I look at my hair and immediately teared up thinking - great I'm supposed to go out like this. I checked out and the receptionist was nice enough to ask why I was crying and I explained but also said I am supposed to come back to my stylist and didn't want to make waves. Today I wake up and well let's just say I'll need to color my grays some other way because the 2 1/2 hours with juli did nothing. Absolutely not worth $300. I am not even kidding when I say I flew 400 miles with a broken foot just to get my hair cut by Megan here today. She and Desert Strands salon are well worth the travel! Let me explain, I moved out of Reno a year ago and after multiple failed attempts to find a new stylist, I knew I was better off returning. This salon is a dream establishment. The aesthetics are great, they offer complimentary beverages and snacks, and the staff are incredibly welcoming! But above all, they recruit top tier talent that continues their education as stylists. Megan flawlessly executes every hair style, color, or cut I've ever asked for. She is an extremely skilled professional stylist with a promising career. I will continue to travel out to this salon for as long as I can help it. There are many different stylists here so it can cater to many people with different wants and hair needs. They also carry amazing hair products that are available for purchase. So I've been coming here since they opened this location. I've always had a positive experience with my stylist. Well that was shortly lived today, as there Elites personality's came through clearly by the owner herself, with her snooty look as I walked into the facility. The receptionist was on the phone when I entered as I stood there waiting to check-in, then she walks away before I can check-in so I just continued to sit there. Now it's been 30 mins and I go to use the bathroom and walk by and I don't see my stylist, just everyone looking at me with there judging hipster eyes, so I ask the receptionist where she is- she looks at me and was like oh my gosh how unprofessional is (blank stylist) she quit months ago. I'm like this doesn't make sense that's not like her... She's like oh my gosh I feel so bad, I'm thinking the only one feeling bad should be the owner and receptionist for treating how they did. read more

If you would like to be scammed and threatened... go to Desert Strands. I wish I could put zero stars based on the interactions I had with the salon and receptionist today. I have had services with Desert Strands before with Megan. I received a cut and color 8 weeks ago and had an appointment today that I specified for a cut. Megan had told me that she would put me down for a balayage and I can decide whether I wanted to do the balayage at the time of the appointment. As I work three jobs, I was running 20 min late to my appointment and had to pull over to safely text the business. I informed the receptionist I was running late and that I would only be doing the trim. She informed me that my "change of decision" on not coloring my hair would result in $240 paid service and was considered a last minute cancellation. I informed the receptionist of my conversation with Megan and that I was ten minutes away. While they were accommodating to tardiness when it was for the 3.5 hour appointment that I didn't decide on in the first place, the receptionist cancelled my appointment following me letting them know I was only doing the trim. They were not clear about services to be performed, the lack of communication was severe, and the interactions with the receptionist was terrible. They were not concerned with customer satisfaction and meeting their needs and instead continued to say they were "protecting their stylists." Yet, this is their policy. Also, I am not the first person that has had this issue, but plan to pay an addition $100+ to any service they quote you. Not including tip. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I was in about 8 weeks ago and had a decent haircut by Megan. I set up my next appointment durning my original appointment. This appointment was for 12pm. As I was leaving, I received a text -Megan was running 30 minutes late. I texted back-to confirm 12:30 would be accurate as I had another appointment. Yes 12:30 no issue. I arrived at 12:25. I was told someone else would blow dry the client and she would be right with me-12:40 Megan comes out. She said if I want the cut she would spray hair-dry, cut and that is it. I was not the one running 40minutes late. Since it only takes 45 minutes to cut and dry-she obviously fit someone else in and too bad for me. Nice salon but I will not be back. read more

Since moving back to Reno from San Diego, I struggled to find a stylist and salon that offered both an amazing haircut and service until I scheduled an appointment at Desert Strands. The first second I walked into the salon, I was greeted by the receptionist who was very welcoming and offered me a water immediately. The business owner - Siera was my stylist and she took the time to ask me about what style I preferred and thoroughly consulted with me about my ideal haircut. She took the information I gave her and hit it out of the park! I have now had multiple appointments with the same experience, I really couldn't speak more highly of this Salon. The ambiance is unmatched and it is truly the nicest salon I have visited. I highly recommend booking an appointment with any of the amazing Stylists. read more
