Even if you are not new to the area, stopping by for a quick history lesson is well worth it.

This is another small museum with an good display and an outbuilding where they have farming implements. Like most small museums they are only open limited hours a few days per week. They had an interesting collection of local items and history and a friendly staff. I you want to get a lot of value out of your visit to North Bend try to combine it with a ride on the train to Snoqualmie or a trip to the factory outlet mall and make a whole day out of the trip.

This is a charming stop between North Bend and Snoqualmie Falls, in the town of Snoqualmie. You can…read morereach the museum by train, on the 5-mile train ride that goes back and forth between North Bend and the Falls, or you can reach it by car - there is a parking lot and road access. It's a large facility with multiple train engines and cabooses and the like inside, from different time frames, and with explanation. There is also a gift shop and restrooms. The staff, a lot of which are volunteers, are all friendly and knowledgeable - and very passionate about trains. One of the big focuses of the museum is to show how trains changed the way we do things - not just how we travel but how we eat, everything. This was very interesting and eye-opening. They are currently working on a new exhibit of a miniature train traversing areas of the state, such as the Gorge. It's looking great! Big P.S. Part of what they do is the train ride, I believe. They run most of the year. It's great fun. We did the Twin Peaks fundraiser ride. Staff was great - many clothed in traditional uniforms - and everyone went out of their way to make the experience fun and fulfilling.

You can tell that the entire vicinity is well taken care of because the garden is blooming and so beautiful. I came here around 4pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy at all. It's a nice stroll that can take you 45-1 hr and you can just feel lost but it is not a big place so it's perfect. It's a little getaway that makes you feel like you are in a different state or place but you're still in Seattle.

This garden is 2.7miles from the SeaTac airport. A wonderful stop to make prior to your flight, upon arrival or when in the area. Pets are welcome. Free admission. There's pathways throughout the park to enjoy the multitude of pretty flowers, trees and plants. You will be able to see the signage which reflects what's available: -Elda's paradise garden -Seiki Japanese garden -Rose garden -Daylily garden -Fuchia garden -Iris garden -Community garden The Japanese garden is magical. It is clean and very well maintained. There are some benches available to sit, relax and enjoy. There's a mini library next to one of the benches where you can sit within nature to read by yourself or read to your kids. It's beautiful all around. Check it out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! =)

There are free guided tours (please bring cash to tip the volunteers) at 11am and 1pm. You are free to explore the museum on your own, but the tour is highly recommended given how knowledgable the volunteers are! Built in 1906, this historical landmark showcases the giant turbines and allows you to explore what once powered the City of Seattle and its transportation system. This is a great way to spend a couple hours off the beaten path. Great place to take photos as well!

What I like about this place is that occasionally they rent it out for special events. We went on a day where it had a live music show that played as the onlookers meandered through the plant. The. Music reverberated throughout the whole place! Lots of parking in the side of the building. Though the entrance is a little hard to find from the street. Come to see a snipbit of Seattle's history and the grandeur of the steam plant.

We found MOHAI super interesting, with interactive exhibits as well as a lot to read. "True Northwest: The Seattle Journey" is a uniquely informative and well designed exhibit that I'd recommend to anyone who lives in or cares about Seattle. One of our favorite parts of the museum was the interactive display highlighting different clauses of the Treaty of Point Elliott/Mukilteo and posing thoughtful questions about it. The sections on changes to the landscape and urban planning were also pretty amazing to think about. The short musical about the fire was kind of silly and cheesy but I think that was intentional, and we learned a lot regardless. We also had fun (with an air of foreboding) interrogating each other based on the Canwell hearings on "UnAmerican activities" in Washington. I was a little concerned that the focus on interactive activities would make MOHAI too kid-oriented for us as 30-somethings to enjoy and learn from, but that did not turn out to be a problem. We spent a few hours here and got a lot out of our visit. Finally, I appreciate that this museum is open on Mondays and easily accessible via public transit. It also has nice views of Lake Union which you can see through the windows while browsing some of the exhibits.

We most recently visited so my kiddo could check out the Dino exhibit. Online/on the website they had mentioned fossil digs so my kid was really looking forward to that. When we went through all 4 levels of the museum though, there was no fossil dig to be found. After asking staff , they mentioned it's only once or twice a year. A bit of a bummer since that's the main thing my kid wanted to do! Just 1 star off for that. The husky scavenger hunt kind of made up for it! If you're coming with a kid they'll offer the scavenger hunt & I'd highly recommend it to make the visit more interesting for the little ones! All in all I definitely recommend checking out the Burke Museum & also stop by Off the Rez (connected cafe) while you visit!

To me, where this museum really shines, is the Native exhibits offering both past and present history on rotation and access to working scientists. I always learn a lot when I go. When the wet lab is active may be my favorite part. Watching animal skeletons prepped. Might be a little gross for some people so check the schedule if you are squeamish. Another note for Parents is that there is a small play area on the top floor. Perfect for rainy days with the little ones. The surrounding University grounds are great to let them run around as well. There is a Starbucks at the Suzzallo Library and bathrooms too if you left the Burke and have a kid who needs to go even after they were prompted a million times before you exited the Burke! There are also tons of food options and a couple small grocery stores nearby. Which is great if you/your group have dietary needs. The light rail station is very close by and many buses drop off / pick up right across the street. Public transit to this location is quite good and I recommend it, especially since youth 18 and under are free to ride.

Salmon Days!! Always a fun time while we watch our salmon friends move through the area (and you…read morecan eat them). This is the first year I've got in many, many years and I'm glad that I did. Like any other festival that shuts down a large area, the parking is pretty crazy. I got there nice and early to find a good spot and walked about a mile. Overall good selection of vendors! Most of them were artisanal and not something you can buy from a direct-from-China shop. The food court had a lot of great options, and, of course the Kiwanis salmon BBQ. They also had a large field section with games for the kiddos and a water dog competition! There were lots of salmon going through the ladder, so that was nice to watch for awhile. Overall Salmon Days is a great festival to get out and do something a little different!
