I've been wanting to stop here for a while since I live around the corner just never made it through. Last night I finally made it and happy I did. I love craft cocktail bars especially a craft cocktail bar with a speakeasy vibe. There are big curtains so you can see but not really see what's inside, there's wall of mugshots some genuine and of customers who ordered the gangsters old fashioned which includes your mugshot on the wall. There are a lot of cocktail choices and a vast selection of fine spirits. My fiancé loves Booker and it's not available just anywhere and it was available so he was happy. I went for one of my favorite cocktails the old fashioned and I wasn't disappointed. I will be back because it's nice to crafted cocktail spot within walking distance from the house. read more

Went there 10/28 Friday night and arrived around 12:30. Google says they are open till 3am but my girlfriend and I sat there literally as the only ones on that side of the bar and all FOUR bartenders ignored us as if we were invisible. Just walking around and picking up cups, little stuff. But not a single one of them came to take our order. I was amazed and almost lost my shit cause I've never seen just such blatant disrespect from a wait staff. All four of those females are terrible at their post. I may have done it, may have FINALLY found a local bar that's suited for me. Clean establishment, decent age range of early 30s and up, good drinks, wonderful owner, great people. There were two bartenders when I went and one was lovely the other if I am being honest was not the friendliest but to be fair maybe she was having a bad night. The owner was very involved with bar patrons and had us all playing a fun ddice game, happy positive environment and nice ambiance. Towards last call it seemed a lot of people knew each other and are regulars that were just very accepting and treated you like a friend. Definitely will be coming back soon! read more

I've been to repeal 18 a few times now, and it's always been a great experience. The bar is dimly lit and of course has TVs to watch whatever sporting event may be happening at the time, but it's never been one of those crazy, crowded, overrun types of bars. Even when there's a good amount of people here it still gives off a nice, layer back vibe that makes grabbing a drink, or 3, very enjoyable. The bartenders are very attentive and make some awesome drinks. There's a menu of their specialties along with what seems like thousands of different liquors to choose from, or they can probably make whatever your picky little heart desires. They also have a great little patio area outside and bar games, such as pool tables, inside. If you're ever needing a break from the busyness and loudness of most Tampa bars, head over to Westchase and check this place out! Pro tip: there's parking on the street by all the other restaurants in that little nook, but also parking in a parking lot if you take the first left after turning into the restaurant area. My very good friends Mark H. and Gigi S. felt the need to drag me out to a local bar this past week and forced me to sit there and drink Old Fashioned's with them. Actually Mark and I both really enjoy a well-crafted Old Fashioned, and he had been singing the praises of this new watering hole in the middle of Westchase, so I had to go check the place out. Repeal 18 is a Prohibition-themed, hand-crafted cocktail lounge located in Westchase at the corner of Linebaugh and Montague. Repeal 18 occupies the space that formerly housed the Twisted Olive, and it sits right next door to the little neighborhood YMCA along Linebaugh Avenue. Parking is easy-peasey, and it's FREE! Just turn on Montague, and then turn left into the alleyway between the shops. There's a nice big FREE parking area for all of the local businesses. The décor of Repeal 18 is dark, and this place has a great "speakeasy vibe" with famous gangster photos and newspaper clippings about repealing the 18th Amendment (That would be Prohibition for those of you who slept through Civics class). There's a fireplace in one corner and a dart board on the opposite side of the bar along with a FREE pool table, and places to play board games or cards. Of course the main attraction is the big horseshoe-shaped wooden bar, and the professional mixologists working their magic. If you're a smoker they'll banish you to their outdoor covered patio where they have plenty of high-top tables, while the rest of us sit inside in air-conditioned comfort. This place doesn't have the dramatic flair of bottle-flipping magicians behind the bar, but rather a couple of very knowledgeable bartenders who craft your cocktail by hand and ask what type of bourbon (and hand-made bitters) you'd like them to use in your Old Fashioned. Liz was our bartender on this recent trip, and she started us off with a very nice blended bourbon old fashioned before moving on to assist other customers. Mark had already broken her in and informed Liz that we wanted the garnish (orange peel and maraschino cherry) but didn't want any of those nasty plastic straws that have a tendency to poke you in the nose while you're trying to drink. We sat there and chatted while sipping our drinks like a couple of refined gentlemen. Before long, Liz was back and this time she recommended that I try an Old Fashioned made with High West's American Prairie Reserve (APR) Bourbon which turned out to be a limited edition blend of a six and ten-year old bourbon, that was named one of the ten best new bourbons by Men's Health magazine. This was like serious amazeballs smooth and tasty! Mark and I were asking questions about the various single and blended bourbon whiskeys that they have at Repeal 18, and Liz started pouring sample tastes of each of them for us to try. She knew the backstory of each distillery and which spirits worked best in various cocktails. Mark and I were smiling as we nodded and followed along with her, but before long I realized that I could no longer feel my tongue. I had a serious bourbon buzz! Thit man, thith place ith awethome! Repeal 18 is a cocktail lounge that uses fresh-squeezed citrus juices for all of their libations, and Liz told us that they make their own simple syrup in-house (translation: no high-fructose corn syrup - just refreshingly light cocktails!) The following weekend my bf and I went there... 2 days in a row. All the cocktails we drank during these visits we ordered from the drink menu provided. We drank quite a few and the ones I especially like is The Barb and my bf likes the Highlander, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. The 2 female bartenders are great mixologists and they're so nice and cute. The male bartender is so knowledgeable at his craft. Well, it's been over a year now and Repeal has earned a special place in my heart. Hands down, my favorite watering hole in Hillsborough County. Why? Hand-crafted cocktails, free pool, great staff, mature crowd, and great throwback music, which is controlled by the staff. Sometimes one of the most annoying things at a bar is a Touchtunes machine. If I'm out and about trying to have a good, uplifting time, the last person I want controlling the music is some sap who just got divorced. I had to update my review because this joint has come so far in such little time. All of the drinks are made to perfection, no need for cheat sheets! Sometimes I forget my cigars at home, and Repeal now sells them, so it's not a major issue. Some of the sticks can be a bit pricey, but hey, convenience ain't cheap! I know we have a ways to go, but this is the place to be for the Superbowl, and I will make sure I'm not double-booked in 2016. Repeal 18 has become my FAVORITE bar in Tampa ... As an avid fan of Old Fashioned's I was recommend to try this place from the bartender of another local gastro pub & decided to give it a try. As a customer who always orders an Old Fashioned where ever I dine and devour, I can honestly say that no other bar in the Bay area has yet to come close (and i've had an Old Fashioned in the countless number of Tampa's many restaurants & bars)! In the past, the best Old Fashioned I have ever had was found in New Orleans, and Repeal 18 has now taken that top spot. Made with just the right amount of bitters, an orange peel garnish & a black cherry (not to mention the single spherical ice ball) ... hits the spot each and every time. They even had a chocolate pumpkin spiced old fashioned (a creatively fun and a great spin on a classic drink!) which shows you the creativeness of the mixologists at this hidden GEM. Ive tried the bees knees & moscow mule drinks on separate occasions & they also did not disappoint! I love the local bar feel which always makes you feel welcomed and wanting to come back for more. The bartenders make it a point to get to know their customers and it shows each time I come back through the doors. The low key light dimming and LCD TV screens also make this it a great place to watch sports with a group of people. They even have a dart table, Foosball & full sized pool table to keep my non-drinking patrons entertained all through out the night! I don't even know where to start. This place is the Gem of WestChase. How this alluded me for such a long time is beyond me, however it's the kind of place, that, once discovered, you look forward to your next visit. Let's start with what this is - a prohibition era "Speakeasy" that actually looks and feels like a prohibition era Speakeasy. We've seen more and more of these pop up in the area, though I have rarely found one that I have felt lives up to the hype the owners put around it. Repeal 18 is not that kind of place. It's honest and fun with some of the best drinks I've had around here. The bar features dartboards, pool tables, a dimly lit atmosphere, and top shelf cocktails revolving around old fashioned recipes with some modern twists. I was partial to the Root Beer Old Fashioned, and their new-age-y Sazerac. In fact, if I didn't have the liver of a toddler, I could spend a significant amount of time here just trying the different drinks. After a while I've come to order many of of their home-grown drink menu items and haven't really been disappointed by a single one. If you're looking for a place to take some co-workers after hours, or simply want a unique and interesting date spot, Repeal 18 will absolutely fit that bill. read more

The patrons mix contains a stream of single "regulars" as well as neighborhood couples. I can see why the have a dedicated following! The look of this place was cool. Dark, dim lighting.... I like it. I was worried that having a pool table and dart board would have attracted a different crowd but it was pretty low key in there. The vibe = Cool The drinks though is where I have a bit of an issue. They weren't horrible at all, just not great. Order off the menu and you might not get exactly what you are looking for. For menu drinks, I liked what I saw. A couple good takes on some traditional drinks. About those menu drinks.... Watching them make some drinks, I was a little worried and rightfully so. They make an old fashioned similar to how I would however, I do not leave the drink in ice while making another drink. All of my drinks had a diluted taste to them. All of them rested in ice before being poured. Not good. One drink (not an old fashioned) was good but the glass was never rinsed, totally changing the complexity of the drink. I had high hopes for this place. But I think the staff have to put more heart into their craft. read more

Love their Mexican martini but depending on the waitress sometimes the spice of it varies greatly. Craft cocktails do usually take a bit longer to make but worth the wait. One thing I will caution you is that the male bartender put a raw quail egg in my drink (as the Mexican martini uses egg whites but liquid egg whites are pasteurized so safe to use) raw quail egg is not! They offer several variations of the Old Fashioned but to me the original is the best. I loved their loyalty program. You receive a card for each drink you order (even at Happy Hour) and after 10, your next drink is free. I've got 6 more to go. From the photos posted, you'd assume the staff would be dressed in that 1920's garb. Sadly not. I was hoping, but let down. I noticed on the wall all the mug shots which I thought were of old gangsters and singers of the golden days, and they were I believe maybe employees or just regulars (I'm not 100%). I liked the concept though. On the other side of the bar there was a western saloon set up of high tables, barrels and a dartboard. The bar was well stocked and had red lifts underneath the liquor bottles to give it that speakeasy feel. Their happy hour last until 8 and it's $3 off cocktails. I enjoyed The Barb and Cool as a Cucumber. Both had their own tastes one a refreshing blend of Hendrick's Gin and the other a little fruit with a bourbon aftertaste of the Rhubard. Nice spot and it wasn't where I was expecting. I'm still so unfamiliar with Tampa area and thought this was downtown just by the street name. But it's nestled on a tow home area on the lower level. This is a cute place. It isn't as "secretive" as most speakeasy, you don't need a code and they don't drama the door up, but it is very cutely decorated, the drinks were very good. We were there on a Saturday around 10 and while it had clients at almost every table, definitely wasn't over crowded. They don't have table service which is a little cumbersome to have to get up and get drinks each time, but the bar wasn't overly busy so the wait wasn't long. Prices were an average $8-10. One of my favorite Whiskey places in Tampa. They have great bourbon, Rye, scotch and even little moonshine selection that keeps me coming back for more. They have great different variations on old fashions, free snacks and a great happy hour. With a name like Repeal 18, you'd think it would play with the speakeasy theme. I was slightly disappointed that it does not. It's not a bar with the facade of a laundromat, or anything like that. I guess I was just looking forward to the secrecy of a traditional speakeasy to live up to the name. However, it still is a nice chill place with a pool table, dart board, and board games. The bartender was very friendly, which added to the chill ambiance. It was as if she's saying "make yourself at home!" A regular haunt for me, this place has evolved into something Westchase can be proud of. Offering free pool, darts, and a card table, the drinks here pack a punch. For the Winter months there are strategically placed heaters inside and out. Next to the warm fireplace an array of games and a variety of seating options ideal for one person hanging out, or the whole gang. There's a fire pit outside where the smoking of a fine cigar is encouraged. While the Prohibition feel is firm throughout, I'm quite certain that Liz is making these drinks as well if not better than her illegal old school counterparts, and it's fun to watch her go. (Try my drink, The Gigi) Dave and the others make this place an absolute party every time but what's different about this spot, is that it's more class and less fist pumping than Westchase is used to. First time here. Came for the old fashioned and it didn't disappoint. Parking was easy and found our way to the bar. We went in street side but realized we could have walked in from the back door. We sat at the bar. Provided a view of all the activities- people watching, drinks being made and sports on the TV. The menu was creative and lengthy. But as I said, we went for the old fashioned. We opted for the standard ones, not the flavored. We did have them smoked which adds a nice aroma to the drink. Really enjoyed the simpleness of it... Perfectly mixed. We will definitely go back. Just in case for those that don't know, they do not serve food. I think I read on another review that you can have food brought in, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I was taken to Repeal as part of my birthday celebration this past Saturday. The place was great! The environment was chill and very inviting. We sat outside on the patio where we could still hear the music for the inside. Their music selection was calming a mix of popular and indie. This is a great place to come and unwind after a long week or for dates. The drinks!!! The drinks were amazing! I had one of the Bourbon flights. it was four shots of different types bourbons it is a really good choice if you are a bourbon drink like myself. The Bartender was great just told I wanted something sweet but has to bourbon and he came back with a very delicious and refreshing Black berry Lemonade with strong bourbon kick. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business. At 11pm on a Saturday night, we were 2 of the 10 people TOTAL in the building. Repeal 18 is located in the former space that The Oak Room occupied. The Oak Room was always packed, and the locals know why...it definitely had a unique reputation. There were 2 cocktail waitresses working and their list is quite extensive. I'm not a huge cocktail fan but the bartender was able to whip me up a concoction that was pretty tasty. My husband had a bourbon poured on top of a fancy ice cube and he said it was nice and smooth. The ambiance isn't anything fancy or memorable and honestly, we probably won't be back.
