Wanted to give a shout out to our server Katt last night at the Flamestone Grill in Oldsmar. She made the excellent food and atmosphere even better! Knowledgeable, personable and attentive.....what more could you ask for? The overall experience was wonderful, as always. Nice,cozy atmosphere. Excellent service. And the food was pretty much perfect. I ordered the special ($90), a Tomahawk rib-eye cooked Pittsburgh medium and it was prepared perfectly! (see pictures). My girlfriend ordered the seafood Risotto, that was also excellent, with crawfish, scallops and shrimp. I always look forward to their Flame stone salad with pecans, cheese, dried cranberries and creamy balsamic vinaigrette. We had a large group stop by for dinner last night. Service was phenomenal and the restaurant was clean. I was disappointed in the food. I got the Steak Frites and asked for medium. Most of the steak was well-done. The fries were okay and I wasn't a fan of the sauce it came with. I still cleared my plate because I was hungry. It wasn't worth bringing up to the server due to not wanting to wait for another steak to be cooked. Some comments from the rest of the group: the steak salad came with blue cheese crumbles and that's all you could taste. It overpowered the salad. The BLT wedge was okay, nothing over the top. The caesar salad with steak was good. The mac n cheese had good flavor but it was super oily. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience, especially for the price. read more

My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it is family owned. The table side guacamole is a close second. We dined on a Wednesday night and they were quite busy. We had such a terrible experience this week that I have to write about it. Four people, four entrees, one cocktail, one beer and $250 out the door is absurd. We had family in town so met them here halfway between us. Two appetizers - crab cakes were fishy - honestly kinda Chili's level food. Ordered the special lobster ravioli and the waitress told us shrimp comes with then proceeds to charge us $8 for said "included" shrimp. I arrived without a reservation, yet I was greeted with genuine warmth, courtesy, and respect. The hostesses were friendly, welcoming, and exceptionally accommodating, creating an outstanding first impression. After being seated, we were introduced to our server, Alexis. What a breath of fresh air! Alexis was knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely enthusiastic. She clearly enjoys both her job and the restaurant she represents. In many ways, she was a one-person marketing team for Flamestone American Grill. Alexis took the time to explain what makes several of the restaurant's signature cocktails unique and described the creativity and attention to detail that goes into many of the menu selections. I've read other reviews here on Yelp and I sadly have to say I'm in agreement with the majority of reviews critical of the food. The ambience is appealing and the service was spot on. What looked was the most important aspect which was the food! In all fairness I'm not particularly a guacamole fan but I did think the guacamole preparation was very tasty! I ordered the larger cut of prime rib and it was overly salty on the outside rub as well as being ridiculously tough! The prices were high for our meal. I don't see any reason to return. read more

We did not have a reservation, but we're able to quickly get seated. We met Katt, our server who made our experience special from the minute she greeted us. She asked if we've ever been there before, and we had not. She proceeded to tell us the specials, the recommended dishes and also her favorites. She was very knowledgeable about each entree and dish. I ended up with a 30-day aged, bone-in ribeye, a loaded baked potato and the skillet Mac and cheese. My wife got the 6 Oz petite filet, a loaded baked potato, and a side salad. During our meal and conversations, we told Katt it was our 33rd anniversary and discussed where we all were from. When the meals came out, the presentation was great, with the Mac and cheese still bubbling in the skillet. The baked potatoes were the size of our heads and the steaks were cooked perfectly medium. The seasoning on the steaks was so flavorful, my wife who puts steak sauce on everything did not even ask for any. When done, Katt boxed up our remaining food and bagged it. Then she told us for our anniversary, we could receive a free dessert. We couldn't decide, so we got both the bineigts and deep fried oreos. There were 5 pastries and 6 oreos served with vanilla ice cream and real Whipped cream. My steak was $55 with two sides and my wife's steak was $36. This was by far the best steaks and all around meals we've had in years. Not since the 1990's did Ruth's,Criss compare. The absolute worst service. Our appetizers of rolls and calamari took 25 mins. No apology. After an hour we checked on our food and they said there were several large parties and it would be 5 more minutes. No apology. No manager came over. Mind you this was LUNCH time. Overall I still think this place is great but my most recent order was disappointing compared the first order where everything was perfect. Nothing was bad that I couldn't eat it, but I had to do some doctoring. The Rib eye was a little more charred than expected but still good pass those parts. The mashed potatoes were under-seasoned but again still good. The Parmesan risotto was the big disappointment. It was cooked so well in terms of texture, but it was also so bland. I came in and got a tomahawk steak and table side guacamole. The steak was perfection. A perfect rare plus, which I know can be an annoying ask going between temps but it's how I like my steak and it was executed perfectly. A nice char on the outside and melt in your mouth buttery goodness on the inside. Outstanding! The table side guacamole was also fantastic! The perfect amount of fresh ingredients and lime and the server did it with a smile and was very pleasant to chat with. We just decided on a sandwich French Dip; when we ordered we were told they were out of the sandwich; only a burger or grouper sandwich and they were also out of 2 of the main entrees. Why 5 Stars? Because the steaks were insane, the staff was super friendly, and the vibe made it feel like we were hanging out at a friend's place (who just happens to cook amazing food). Let's just say it came out cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and totally worth every bite. Even my son, who's not always the most adventurous eater, loved the rare pieces. He basically inhaled his share with a side of fries before I could even blink. Ha ha! We had some Bocelli wine that also really tasted great with steak! My mother-in-law went for the French onion soup and then had a filet. Now, she can be a tough crowd, but this time she just kept nodding her head with this "oh my goodness, so good" face. Trust me, that's like a standing ovation in her book. After polishing off that huge steak, we all realized we were way too full for a heavy dessert, so the grown-ups settled for cappuccinos as a sweet finish. The cappuccinos were spot-on, with that perfect foam and smooth espresso that just makes you smile and think, "Yup, this hits the spot." All in all, Flamestone American Grill nailed it. Great place for a date night or girls night. We came on a Thursday night and it was decently crowded. It's big so no issues with parking or getting a table, but you can tell this restaurant is popular. We started with the Tableside Guacamole and got vegetables. I love that they give you a vegetable option. It is very good and you can see them cut up the avocados, so it's very avocado forward. Then for my main I got the steak salad. I asked for the steak medium rare, but it was more medium. It was still great though and I would definitely get it again. Our server was pretty slow, which I found surprising since he mentioned at the beginning he knew we were hungry. I also tried a dirty martini and it was pretty good, no complaints here. Great ambiance, feels upscale but prices for food is still reasonable. The server was great and answered all our group's questions. I got the maple bourbon glazed salmon which had a great sweet and salty flavor with the thick piece of salmon. The sweet mashed potato and the campfire veg (mainly green beans with bell pepper and onion) went well with it as sides. We got an extra side of lobster mac n cheese, and it was so deliciously cheesy with big chunks of lobster. I was intrigued seeing the campfire s'mores at another table, so we got that as well. It was marshmallows on sticks with a little tableside fire, so it wasn't anything sophisticated, but it was a great group dessert and fun for kids. FLAMESTONE: May 30th, 2024 Getting settled in Oldsmar, FL., we all agreed on Flamestone for dinner. We got in our rental, put the address in the navi and drove approximately 400 feet. An entire 400 hundred feet?! Two + pedestrian friendly, curvy blocks! That was a laugh! The restaurant is a brisk 3 minute walk from the door of our hotel to the restaurant. My bad! Did I not realize that the restaurant was literally a cartwheel away? Nope. My Yelp brain was no where in high gear. To add to my faux pas, I didn't even check if reservations were required. I'll admit, I've been a mess these past several weeks. Anywho, despite my misguiding, as we walked in, with our non-reservation selves, the friendly and understanding hostess lead us to a round table with very comfortable seating. Describing Flamestone, with its dark woods and candled modern-type ambiance. I'd say it's like a southern cousin of Capital Grill, fulfilling all of our needs with an assortment of shareable apps and individual entrees. Food was great. Aside from the food, our server JP (Jean Paul), with his wonderful French accent was a pleasure. He was a great representation of his country plus an accommodating server, who put the cherry on top our first Flamestone experience. This once disoriented Yelper recommends. First time visitor... Couple bizarre things that caused me not to like the experience. Food: 6 ounce filet mignon was good. Chose mashed potatoes and vegetables. For some reason they charged an extra $4 for something unknown (see pic). The full rack of ribs was just average. Sauce was good but the meat was just a tad off. This was pared with veggies and coleslaw. Again the bill came with $3 extra tacked on for similar unknown reasons. I was with company where I didn't want to question this, but reviewed the menu afterwards and see nothing about these extras. When you add tax and tip this totals almost $9 for bogus up charges. Both meals indicated they came with two sides and none of the four chosen sides were premium. There was no complimentary bread and the appetizer menu didn't really have an affordable alternative. Believe they only offer flatbread for $15, which is ridiculous. And tea for $4.50 comes to almost $6 with tax/tip. Sodas are also this same amount. Too expensive. Our dinner and two wines was $122 after tax/tip. Ambiance: Asked for a quiet place to talk. They put us by the front door in the first row right next to the bar. This could have been better, although they did ask if the location was okay I'd never been here before so didn't know the rest of the restaurant. Service: Not the best. Our waiter seemed to have an attitude at first. Like he was annoyed when we weren't ready to order entrees just yet. And then seemed to disappear for too long in a restaurant that wasn't full. Not ideal. This is a "$$$" place so expect better... Ambiance is okay. Our table had the bar close by with all the TVs playing sports, so kind of distracting. Parking is plenty as it's in a long retail strip center. With the unknown and unexpected up-charges and mediocre food I won't come back here. Flamestone Grill is always a wonderful experience. The manager, Mike, is consistently present and attentive, always making sure regulars feel welcome and seating us where we're most comfortable. Our waitress, Janessa, was fantastic--friendly, happy, and very accommodating. The bartender, Leilani, is also such a bright spot of every visit; she's warm, welcoming, and always remembers us when we come in. The hosts are equally attentive--on this visit they noticed right away when I needed something and stepped in without hesitation. The food is just as impressive as the service. The guacamole, fish dishes, and steaks are always excellent, and the sourdough bread with garlic butter is the perfect start to every meal. Even though it's a polished restaurant, it feels like a true hometown place, which I think comes from it being family-owned and operated. The food was very expensive. It was over $100 for take out for a family of four. We ordered Calamari, Buffalo cauliflower, Side of risotto, Flat bread Grouper sandwich and fries, Mac n cheese, The calamari was typical. Buffalo cauliflower had blue cheese blobs all over it. Yet also two sealed sauces (blue cheese and buffalo). It was soggy from the blobs of bleu cheese. The Mac n cheese was teeny and looked like a side for $16. The grouper sandwich $22 was less than average, had too much breading and didn't really taste like grouper. The frozen fries weren't good. And the risotto wasn't cheesy rice! What a ridiculous false advertisement. Who makes white rice and throws cheese on it and calls it risotto? I've eaten risotto many times and know that was white rice and not risotto. Let me start by saying, we frequent this Flamestone location regularly, like every month and every year for New Year's Eve, our party of 12+ reserves the room by the bar for our annual New Year's Eve dinner. However, this review is about a recent visit and really, the last two times we have gone, their food and service has been 'off'. This Oldsmar location is always packed, so the wait isn't the issue, but the food for this visit was so below the usual taste and presentation, that a review was necessary. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer we ordered was delicious. The hubby ordered the grouper sandwich, fried, for his entree and it had no flavor, like unseasoned, and the remoulade sauce was not added to the sandwich. We asked our server for it, and it was brought out, but it was her lack of attention to 'care' that we aren't used to at Flamestone. She dropped off the sauce and left in a hurry. His sandwich came with cold fries and by the time a new batch came out, he had finished his food and we were ready to go. I ordered the steak fajitas and let's just say, Flamestone needs to get out of the fajita business. If fajitas don't arrive to the table still sizzling, then something was done wrong. The meat was soaked in the juice and the veggies looked like they were added after the meat was cooked, so they didn't appear to be seasoned or cooked. Again, our server didn't ask about them, only dropped them off and kept moving. My food came with truffle fries, I'm assuming, but I didn't see that on the special menu and when she dropped them off, she did just that and kept moving. Our server, Jessica, was in a rush all night. Yes the restaurant was busy, but rushing our service is never a good idea. She never asked how our food was until we asked for to go boxes. She did keep our refills on drinks, she did that in a hurry too, but again, she didn't seem to care that I packed all of my food away. She never asked how my dish was or if she could do anything to make it better. It was almost as if she was trying to rush us through our dinner so we didn't have the opportunity to let her know how our food truly was. It was a bad experience for our dinner, one that left a bad taste in our mouth (pun intended). I'm adding a pic of my 'fajitas' for reference and I only wish I would have gotten a pic of the soggy fries that went with them. This will not stop us from visiting this location, but it will make me be more vocal moving forward about the service rendered if it is below standards.
